After a three-month wait, Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for a second week. The set rises 3-1 and earned 67,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 15 (down 1 percent), according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon debuted at No. 1 on the chart dated July 18, and then spent the next 13 weeks lodged in the top four positions of the list, until its return to No. 1 this week. (Further, during that 13-week span, nine of those weeks were at No. 2.)

It’s the second album in 2020 to have such a lengthy wait between weeks at No. 1, following Lil Baby’s My Turn. That album, like Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, debuted at No. 1 (on the March 14 chart) and then spent 13 weeks hovering near the top of the list (between Nos. 2-6) before returning to No. 1 (on the June 20 chart).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Oct. 24-dated chart (where Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon returns to No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard's website on Oct. 20. For the first time in over two months, there are no debuts in the top 10. The chart last had zero debuts in the top 10 on the Aug. 15-dated chart. Additionally, this week’s absence of top 10 debuts comes after two debut-filled weeks: on the Oct. 17 chart (five debuts) and the Oct. 10 chart (six debuts).

Back on the new Billboard 200, 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s Savage Mode II falls 1-2 in its second week on the list, with 66,000 equivalent album units earned (down 61 percent). Three former No. 1s are next in line on the tally, as Juice WRLD’s Legends Never Die climbs 8-3 (45,000 units; down 1 percent), Lil Baby’s My Turn rises 10-4 (38,000 units; up 9 percent and Machine Gun Kelly’s Tickets to My Downfall shifts 6-5 (35,000 units; down 35 percent).

BLACKPINK’s The Album descends 2-6 in its second week, with 35,000 equivalent album units earned (down 68 percent).

The TikTok video in question has “Dreams” soundtracking a man in a hoodie (Nathan Apodaca) seemingly being pulled on a skateboard, as he drinks from a bottle of Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry juice and sings along with Stevie Nicks’ lead vocal. The video became so popular, it moved the band’s own Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks to create their own tribute clips.

Rumours spent 31 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1977-78 -- a record number of weeks atop the list for an album by a duo or group. Rumours was last in the top 10 on the Feb. 18, 1978-dated chart (at No. 10), and last ranked at No. 7 or higher on the Feb. 11, 1978 chart (where it placed at No. 7).

The original Broadway cast recording of Hamilton: An American Musical climbs 11-8 on the new Billboard 200 (just under 33,000 equivalent album units earned; down 4 percent), while YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s former No. 1 Top is a non-mover at No. 9 (32,000 units; down 11 percent) and Taylor Swift’s fellow former leader Folklore rises 12-10 (28,000 units; down 13 percent).

“Dreams” is Fleetwood Mac’s only No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart – out of 25 chart hits. “Dreams” spent one week at No. 1 on June 18, 1977. The cut is one of four top 10 hits from the Rumours album. The effort also launched the singles “Go Your Own Way” (No. 10), “Don’t Stop” (No. 3) and “You Make Loving Fun” (No. 9).

Linkin Park’s ‘Hybrid Theory’ Rocks Album Sales Chart, John Lennon Debuts in Top 10

Linkin Park rocks Billboard’s Album Sales chart, as the band’s Hybrid Theory re-enters the tally at No. 3 with a 2,251% sales gain – having sold 17,000 copies in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 15, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It was last on the list dated Aug. 15 and has not ranked this high since 2002, when it peaked at No. 2.

The surge in sales is owed to the album’s 20th anniversary deluxe reissue on Oct. 9, as the set was reissued in a variety of formats, many with bonus tracks. Hybrid Theory was initially released on Oct. 24, 2000.

Among the deluxe editions offered, there was a deluxe two-CD set, a $59.98 four-LP vinyl deluxe box set and a $199.98 super deluxe five-CD/three-DVD/four-disc vinyl LP box set. Hybrid Theory topped out at No. 2 on the weekly Album Sales chart for four nonconsecutive weeks in 2002. The set has sold 10.8 million copies in the U.S.

Billboard’s Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The Album Sales chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Pure album sales were the measurement solely utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. The new Oct. 24-dated Album Sales chart (where Hybrid Theory re-enters at No. 3) will be posted in full on Billboard’s website on Oct. 20. Leading the latest Album Sales chart is BLACKPINK’s The Album, selling 19,000 copies in its second week (down 76%). The set continues to sell well at mass merchants such as Target and Walmart.

John Lennon’s new greatest hits collection Gimme Some Truth debuts at No. 3 on Album Sales, with 10,000 sold. It marks Lennon’s first top 10 on the list in its 29-year history and his best sales week for an album in nearly a decade. A solo album by the late Beatles legend last sold more of an album in the week ending on the chart dated Dec. 11, 2010, when Power to the People: The Hits sold 12,000 copies.

The Gimme Some Truth compilation is available in a variety of formats, including a standard 19-track edition and a deluxe 36-track version. The set includes familiar Lennon hits like “Instant Karma (We All Shine On)” (a No. 3 Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1970), “Imagine” (No. 3 in 1971), “Whatever Gets You Thru the Night” (No. 1 in 1974) and “(Just Like) Starting Over” (No. 1 in 1980).

Like the Hybrid Theory reissue, Lennon’s Gimme Some Truth was also released in a number of formats, including $79.98 edition with two CDs and a Blu-ray disc that includes the 36 tracks in hi-res stereo, new 5.1 surround mixes and Dolby Atmos. There is also a double-vinyl LP set for $59.98 and a four-disc vinyl LP box set for $109.98.

Gimme Some Truth sold well with independent record stores, as the album also starts at No. 1 on the Tastemakers chart with 3,000 sold via indie stores. (Tastemakers ranks the top-selling albums of the week at indie record stores.)

SuperM’s Super One: The 1st Album rises two spots on Album Sales to No. 4 in its third week on the chart (10,000 sold; down 53%), Carrie Underwood’s holiday album My Gift climbs 11-5 in its second week (9,000 sold; down 31%) and Dolly Parton’s A Holly Dolly Christmas falls 4-6 in its second week (just under 9,000 sold; down 66%).

Brothers Osborne’s latest album Skeletons bows at No. 7 on Album Sales with 8,000 copies sold in the week ending Oct. 15 – the third-largest week for the duo yet.

Taylor Swift’s Folklore rises 14-8 with 7,000 copies sold (down 28%). Folklore continues to be the highest-selling album of 2020 with 981,000 sold.

Future Islands’ new studio album As Long as You Are debuts at No. 9 with 7,000 copies sold. The set also performed well on vinyl, with 4,500 copies sold in the format, which enables its debut at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart.

Bon Jovi’s 2020 closes out the top 10 of the latest Album Sales chart, as the album dips 5-10 in its second week with a little over 6,500 sold (down 72%).

As you have probably heard by now, Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 blockbuster Rumours returns to the top 10 on the Billboard 200 this week, spurred on by a viral video featuring the album’s biggest hit, Stevie Nicks’ mellow, midtempo “Dreams.”

This is the ninth time that an album that was at least 40 years old has made the top 10. All are classic rock albums. Four are by Led Zeppelin, three by The Beatles, and one each by The Rolling Stones and now Fleetwood Mac.

Rumours is the only album to achieve this feat that wasn’t revived by a deluxe or anniversary reissue -- just by a viral video that has had an impact beyond anyone’s, well, dreams. All the others were linked to expensive campaigns. This cost the label, Warner/Rhino, practically nothing!

Two of these albums, Rumours and The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, won Grammys for album of the year.

All four of these bands have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All of them except Fleetwood Mac have received lifetime achievement awards from the Recording Academy -- and the mighty Mac received MusiCares' person of the year accolade in 2018.

Chart flashback: The Beatles’ Abbey Road and Led Zeppelin II, two of the albums on this list, held the top two spots on the Billboard 200 for 15 consecutive weeks from Nov. 22, 1969, to Feb. 28, 1970. The lead in this epic chart battle went back and forth five times. More than 50 years later, these two legendary bands are still dominating Billboard charts and recaps.

Another one that probably would have been top 10 if the points were combined rather than split across two versions - in fact the two versions were top 20 at the same time.
