for one, people meeting up to hangout usually means one person is on the aux. so more households could be expected to play Christmas music, by that logic. Not a lot of people will be cheerful this christmas. Also a lot of areas are straight up cancelling christmas and lots of malls and stores will be shut down. Donβt you get it, we are entering a second lockdown, so Xmas music wonβt be prevalent in 2020. People can... play music at home? What are you even basing this assumption on? |

Please look at the issue from a wider scope, Mariah went #1 because she used 2020 tactics to push the song there and Mariah is overrated on PMB. |

Yes this year is shitty, but cheerful, happy music will still be prevalent this time around. Just like Don't Start Now or Watermelon Sugar are big happy songs and they were huge this year. the sadness of this year won't stop cheer music from killing it this Christmas. |

^ gotportugal, you took the words right out of my mouth! Also, I could be wrong, but wasn't there a day recently where AIWFCIY was in the top Spotify songs chart? Maybe I imagined that, but like considering it's almost at 700m streams (and plenty of other Christmas songs are over 100m), I think it'll be fine, especially considering Spotify is typically used by younger people.

yep - The assumptions about what will happen at Christmas is interesting but especially this time of year - music appealing to demographics beyond PMB become more prevalent. Where one will listen to Mood or WAP there will be more getting out the Christmas music, for family bonding if nothing else.

I feel like Xmas 2020 will be just a normal lockdown day. lmao. You make it sound as if people have never celebrated Christmas with an incomplete family. Anyone who's been hospitalized, served military or studied/worked abroad during December knows what it's like to celebrate Christmas without being with their loved ones. |
