"Thriller," and other "spooky" songs have become associated with Halloween, and benefit from that association, though we should note that most of those are not technically holiday/season songs. "This is Halloween" would be an exception. For instance, most of those do not chart on Holiday/Seasonal Digital Songs Just an observation. :)

I chose Hot 100 and Hot 100 recurrents for this thread. As the recurrent chart is basically an extension of the Hot 100.

I would have started with September - Earth, Wind, Fire had it at least hit the recurrent chart this year (it didn't, although it did it 2018 and 2019)
There could also be 4th of July songs that would be on this thread too, maybe Adam Sandler for Thanksgiving perhaps but anyway....


Regardless of the origin of 'Thriller', it has charted either on recurrent or the main chart, right after Halloween every year since 2005 - so even though the origin wasn't specifically written for Halloween, it would to me qualify as "seasonal" - as we could expect it to chart if not next week then for sure the 11/6/21 or 11/13/21 charts next year

^^^ there was a time not too long ago when the idea of anything making a non-Christmas annual chart return would have seemed unfathomable! Who knows what the future holds in this regard... Labels could start trying to corner new seasonal music markets

I’m confused by this reply... Keith made an error in an otherwise fine article that’s 100% relevant to this thread; no one was asking you to remove it.

Doesn’t Billboard currently only run that chart for the Christmas season, though? Which is the right move for now, but that doesn’t mean Christmas songs are the only instance of seasonality in chart re-entry

So I commented on each one in one post.   I removed it the article because others will follow to complain about typos too, all the complaining strays away from the intended purpose of the thread, so out it goes.

Doesn’t Billboard currently only run that chart for the Christmas season, though? Which is the right move for now, but that doesn’t mean Christmas songs are the only instance of seasonality in chart re-entry

I wish they'd start publishing the chart with Halloween week and then run through New Year's week. As of now the chart is only 5-6 weeks a year, but we see an uptick for Halloween-adjacent songs, and winter holiday songs now start right after Halloween. Why not run the chart for all of that time?

Could the fact that the 2019 peak came in lower than 2013 (both years Halloween fell on a Thursday) and the 2020 peak came in lower than 2015 (both years Halloween fell on a Saturday) suggest that the annual Thriller re-entries have already peaked?

We will get a clearer answer in 2024-2026. Those years align calendar-wise with 2013-2015. If the 24/25/26 peaks are lower than 13/14/15 (and 19/20), then it is probably safe to say that the Thriller re-entries have peaked.
