85. Hand on My Heart - ShriekbackMan this band even fails to entice me when riding over a cool 80's percussion beat. They must really suck. 84. I Send a Message - INXSConsiderably one of their worst sounding songs. Sounds like a Spanish rock cover song. It fails to make my top 40, but Michael's vocals did ride up my list. I hope you guys don't pull this shit with the other INXS song? 83. Hyperactive! - Thomas DolbyCool music video, and Definitely a hyper entry for his music catalog. 'nuff said. 82. A Spy in the House of Love - The dB's This one just kept riding up my list for that groovy melodic vibe. 81. Excellent Birds - Laurie AndersonExperimental, artsy, fartsy music ,and I don't not mix well. 80. Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four) - EurythmicsI loved the music in the song. The beats and all sounded very Italo. Also a little bit of Moroder in the beats. Worked like a charm for me. 79. Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin) - Scritti Politti Funny how this isn't all that different from "Perfect Way" yet sounded sooooo different from "Perfect Way". Scritti's vocals annoyed me like hell in this particular song. 78. Neon Lights - Love TractorThis song went on and on without anything exiting happening. Very few songs on this list were this boring. That alone deserves a hard tank. 77. Eve of Destruction - Red RockersI really only care about and charted one song from this band "China". This song here is good for background music while reminiscing over your 80's record collection. you can turn it off Once you find the actual song you want to listen to. 76. Sixty Eight Guns - The AlarmF U C K this rank is harsh. I kinda dug the melody in the chorus. It kinda felt like Frankie Valli wrote that part. You guys really don't hear what I hear in this band do you? 75. You Are My Friend - Rain ParadeUneventful songs like these just took the slots away from better Cars and Duran Duran songs I would have preferred to rank. 74. Native Land - Everything but the GirlStill better than "Missing", but still fails to wow me in any way at all. 73. Less Cities, More Moving People - The FixxThis song had it's charms. I didn't think it was any sort of discovery I would download, but a lot of these bands sound good for their vocals alone. 72. Shake Dog Shake - The CureI didn't even know what to make of this song. They have written about caterpillars, cats, even Bananafishbones, but couldn't write a decent dog themed song . Cringed me to level I don't want to revisit. I'm just glad another huge Cure fan found this to be one of the worst Cure songs ever released. 71. Howling at the Moon (Sha-La-La) - RamonesNot as bad as that other Ramones-Aid trvasety we ranked, but damn the more I preview never before heard Ramones music the more I feel like I should just go back and watch "Rock 'n' Roll High School" again. There is a reason these songs never came my way before. Extras:Eye Talk - FashionAnother rediscovers gem on that mix tape of mine without any song titles. Now I know what jam this is. This is what I like. Songs that force your ass out of the chair to groove to. Very Italo in synths. Download/check. The Glory of Man - Minutemen Kinda heard some RHCP's in the bass intro, but then went downhill once the singer opened his mouth. I liked the music tho. Too bad the vocalist F'd it all up for me. Sad - NeatsFirst time listen. Not too shabby. I think the bassline is the part that kept me most interested. (No More) Luxuries - The Jim Carroll BandKinda almost has the same melody of " People Who Died". I liked that song. This is Punk vibes I can dig on. I liked the lyrics. Junge Roemer - FalcoLove this one. Sung in German over a fantastic production of instruments. Seems like a more sophisticated vibe for him. Fits his tones wonderfully. Download/check. Steppin' Out - Steel PulseSteel Pulse sounds like a Glam Metal band's name. I would have preferred one too. I didn't like this one bit. Worse than a UB40 tropical wonderjam. Michael Caine - MadnessAt first glance I thought Mr. "Dressed To Kill" was gonna trip the mic fantastic? Oh wait he actually does say "I'm Michael Caine" . How cool is that? This is quite aesthetic for Madness, but I'm really feeling the vibe. Somebody to Love - Agent Orangecool song. Trivia time: This is the Agent Orange band Bowling For Soups mentions in "Girl All The Bad Guys Want". I know this because I love that jam. Boom Boom - TrioWhat's that Guitar strum from? Anyway that's the only part of the song I found any use for.

How are all these songs leaving before "Gratitude", I didn't know this board was such huge solo Danny Elfman fans OMD also should've been cleared a while ago I think the appreciation is more tied to his wife (Bridget Fonda) and his Oingo Boingo and soundtrack work, because this song is a dud IMO

85. Hand on My Heart - Shriekback: This group has an excellent knack for quality basslines, I just wish they offered a little more beyond that. 84. I Send a Message - INXS: Maybe rated this a bit too high in retrospect, but I do like the groove and Michael Hutchence's voice. 83. Hyperactive! - Thomas Dolby: I assume the cluttered production was supposed to drive home the whole "hyperactive" theme, but this song is way too busy. I spent most the track being unsure what the hook or focal point was supposed to be. 82. A Spy in the House of Love - The dB's: A perfectly listenable piece with a nice grooving chorus, but this probably would have worked better as a tight three minute track. 81. Excellent Birds - Laurie Anderson: You certainly can't accuse Laurie Anderson of being generic. This sort of minimalist avant-garde work isn't my kind of thing though, regardless of how much Peter Gabriel it contains. 80. Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four) - Eurythmics: Annie Lennox sounds fine on vocals, but an overuse of dialogue samples puts a damper on what would otherwise be a perfectly solid synth-pop track. 79. Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin) - Scritti Politti: This one took a long time for me to rank. The alternative/synth-funk hybrid the group has works out well, and they found a nice melody for the chorus. The lead singer, however, sounds like he's self-consciously trying to sound soulful and his timbre comes across as a reedy caricature instead. 78. Neon Lights - Love Tractor: The first time I saw this band's name a year or so ago, I figured they were some sort of semi-parodical country rock band like The Beat Farmers. Moving beyond their goofy name though, this was a perfectly fine jangle pop cover, although it probably could have trimmed about a minute without losing anything. 77. Eve of Destruction - Red Rockers: This was one of the few bands on the list that I'd never heard of before. Apparently they had a minor hit on rock radio with "China," however that song isn't familiar to me either. While the overall sound is pleasing, the new wave music here is a little on the bright side for an Eve of Destruction cover, not to mention a little generic by this era's standards. It's definitely a different take on the track at least. 76. Sixty Eight Guns - The Alarm: I assumed at least one or two of my top ten tracks would go out in the bottom half, but I'm shocked that this got buried in the bottom fourth. The dramatic theatrics of this track won me over instantly, and the sense of urgency in the performance served as a counterbalance to keep things from going too far into over-the-top silliness. Really, I've liked most of what I've heard from this band. 75. You Are My Friend - Rain Parade: Cascading jangle pop with a melancholic vibe. I liked it. 74. Native Land - Everything but the Girl: A perfectly fine, jangly modern rock track. There were plenty of likeable tracks this year that I just didn't have room for in my top half. 73. Less Cities, More Moving People - The Fixx: The Fixx had a much better year on the mainstream chart than on here in my opinion. The hook isn't very strong, and that's a big problem since the songwriting is too straight-forward to generate any interest elsewhere. 72. Shake Dog Shake - The Cure: Some solid atmosphere and plenty of moodiness as expected from The Cure. While it's interesting to hear the band getting more aggressive than usual, Robert Smith's vocals started to grate on me as the song went on.
71. Howling at the Moon (Sha-La-La) - Ramones: The Ramones tried for most of the '80s to bring some new angle or gimmick to their music, but nothing ever seemed to stick. At least their gift for crafting simple punk tunes never completely failed them.
