inb4 we get the usual posts from momzquotes about the at40 extras/breakouts getting posted too late Uh-oh. I think we have a problem. Another set of missing breakouts, OTVs, Rewind and extras... Again. If someone listened to AT40 on Hi FM with extras and breakouts, verges and rewind, reply it with a comment or PM it. Thanks.

If I ran American Top 40, there would be a recurrent rule, and all breakouts and verges would be played before the countdown begins (before #40), and there would be no music from the past played on the show. Once the countdown begins there would not be any other music breaking the sequence of #40 to #1.
Does anybody agree with me?

if i were to make a rule for at40, i'd probably make it so that unless the song has spent 40+ weeks on the mediabase charts, then the song can't spend more than 52 weeks on for hot ac and 45 weeks on for pop. that would speed up the freshness rate of the chart considerably.
and in terms of the extras/breakouts you guys nonstop complain about, i genuinely to this day don't see what's SO BAD about it.
again, hearing almost the exact same set of 40 songs every single week is so fucking boring, extras bring a slight variety to it.
of course, if the extra is played multiple consecutive weeks then that would probably increase the burn rate considerably, so i can understand the complaints for that to some extent, but unless there are so many extras the show literally has to cut out an actual number from the countdown, there really is no need to complain SO MUCH about the extras.

Ryan made a couple of mistakes, Head & Heart was up 3, Go Crazy was close to the top 20 not the top 10

If Pop Smoke charts before the top 40 songs of the year, he would be the second rapper to chart this year after his death (Juice Wrld) is the first

Playing the breakouts/OTV songs before the countdown begins doesn't seem right for some reason to me. I would play only one every hour, and I would stop the many extras that they play. There's no need for so many of them in the entire countdown.

Once the countdown begins there would not be any other music breaking the sequence of #40 to #1. Does anybody agree with me? You would be happier listening to a local radio countdown I know Billy Costa in Boston Kiss 108fm used to do a Sunday night countdown that was pretty much a straight countdown without a lot of fluff. Stations aren't going to play all new songs in one bunch in this day and age.At40 usually tries to play "new song sandwiches" (two older songs with a new one in the middle)especially in the first hour. Too many unfamiliar songs in a row causes casual listeners to turn the channel. Trust me I long for the days when there were 250 different songs a year not 125. Unfortunately at two hours and seven minutes this week I tunes times for the actual top 40 songs that leaves a lot of down time. I agree with most people i don't care about the bachelor or Kardashians would rather have music related fillers. Honestly, I don't know how people listen to Top 40 regular channels anymore with all the commercials and optional extras I heart radio is the best invention since the ipod.

suggestions to enhance the countdown and fill time
1.double shots 2.flashbacks top 5 of previous years ect. 3. past #1's 4. mention tops of other charts (albulm, country,r&b,ect) 5. mention songs falling off that week 6. have a trivia question or two that gets revealed in the next hour. 7.tease a featured artist for the week ahead of time and maybe play an interview and 3 songs from them. 8. answer listener's questions

Random thought number two .Remember a few months ago when we had three or four pages each week! Where did everyone go? Rarely see a second page now? Guess there all playing blank slate.

The lyrics of I Love You Baby are so sparse, I'm amazed that the song is charting so high.

If I had my way, I'd take Ryan Seacrest out as the host and shift the emphasis of the show back toward the actual countdown component, announcing songs and movements, and include artist interviews and chart-related extras (rather than just random extras). I'd prefer a recurrent rule, just for freshness, but I know radio stations wouldn't like that.

You and I are listeners, and if it wasn't for listeners, this show wouldn't have any reason to exist.

I'd rather that he follow a format closer to Casey Kasem's, with some of the changes you state, such as intro and outro of each song, more chart movement detail, and more stories/interviews related to the extras. Though the brevity of so many hit songs these days necessitates many more extras than in Casey's time, and there's only so much to say about many songs and artists without getting repetitive.

Good point today's countdown creates different challenges than the past when Post Malone spends about three years straight on the countdown how many facts or stories can you give. Also with many artists charting three or four songs a week it's easy to run out of material. As far as chart data and positions i don't think they put a lot of stock in it as the old days (either do I) where it seemed to mean something, to me it's apples to oranges with chart stats. How can you compare old 1955 to 1991 chart stats to after that. It's like this years baseball season playing 60 games instead of 162 everything is going to have an * next to it. It's like Billboard charts now a days i couldn't care less, an artists releases an album and a dozen songs hit the top 100 toppling Beatles records that stood for decades.
