Oh yeah, now it's my turn to get the evil eye for "Goodbye Earl"; I like it well enough, there's dozens more I like better! ] Fair is fair lol.

Let me just say this about the top two: while the final point spread might suggest otherwise, it was actually never that close and the song that ended up winning only took over the top spot at the very end with the final submission from sabre14. In fact, our runner-up was the most consistent #1 contender as it held onto that spot for thirteen times over the course of the rankdown.

Tries to remember if sabre14 likes "Born To Fly" or not lmao Well Sara is his "favorite" female artist. Not that that means much looking at his history with her rankings! Lol

OK while sabre14's ranking for "Cowboy Take Me Away" is absolutely tragic I'm very happy he didn't cost "Born To Fly" the win! I adore it so much, the melody and Sara's vocals and the FIDDLE!!!!! Both songs are absolutely GORGEOUS and country perfection, and it came down to my 5 and my 7, but obviously I'm happy my higher ranked one came out on top lol. tim thank you for taking over and hosting this, you did a great job as usual and I can't wait for the next one my man!

Both of these songs are so incredible! Either one would have been a fitting winner! That being said, I am SHOCKED that Sara wasn't our runaway winner... She didn't even get anything close to a bottom half rank! Just speaks to how well-loved the Chicks song is as well. But, like, "I Keep Looking" won a year-end rankdown How did "Born To Fly" struggle?!?!! For me personally this kinda comes down to an overplay preference. "Cowboy" is one of the most overplayed country songs of all time, and while it is incredible, I still cannot hear it without thinking "I have heard this too many times throughout my life", lmao 😂 "Born To Fly" has had a lot of overplay throughout its lifetime as well, and I still am much less likely to want to revisit it than some of Sara's other hits, but not quite to the same extent as "Cowboy" imo. The Chicks were a "bigger" artist at their peak than Sara was, so the airplay behaved accordingly.

And there we have it folks! Again, the point spread paints a different picture as it would seem as though "Born to Fly" was the runaway winner when in fact it was not. That designation firmly belongs to "Cowboy Take Me Away" which held onto the top spot for the majority of its run and even started off as our first #1 contender thanks to Kanenrá:ke who was quickly followed up with yet another top ranking from austin . It wasn't until the final moment with sabre14 's submission that they swapped places with him ranking one inside his top 3 and the other completely outside of his top half. Speaking of sabre14 , I do have to thank him for letting me take over the reins on this as I had a blast going back over and revisiting so many of these songs. I never really had looked back too fondly on this year in country music (for whatever reason), but I certainly have changed my tune as this was a much stronger year than I remember it ever being. I also want to thank each one of you for participating in and following along with the rankdown. I'm also glad that by chance there just happened to be an audience around for the finale! See y'all next trip!

It recently struck me just how massive of a risk "Love's The Only House" would have been for Martina to release when she did. As someone who got into her during her Greatest Hits era, it's always been really easy to take for granted that this is one of her hits. But imagine buying this album for the first time, not knowing what any of the hits were going to be except obviously the lead single, "I Love You"! I can't imagine LTOH being a surefire hit, given that its talk-singing nature is so uncharacteristic of anything else Martina had done before. And the industry was against her releasing it from the get-go. From the very beginning, the songwriter himself literally told her "I wrote this for a man, it won't work from your perspective", and she did it anyway, then slayed on the charts with it. I was being a nerd and taking a deep look at her chart history recently, and in terms of amount of weeks spent in the top 5, this would easily be in her top 5 biggest hits! It's all just an example of what an innovative talent Martina was at her peak. She had insights and instincts, and she took risks, and they usually paid off! That's undoubtedly a huge part of why she started being the go-to female vocalist winner for a few years around this time period as well. I remember when Emotion came out, I bought it on release day and "Love's The Only House" was immediately one of my favorite tracks and I remember there being a lot of hype around that song from the get-go and then it was released as the 2nd single. I don't think it was viewed as much of a risk as it may seem as the reception for it initially was very good. Also it wasn't the songwriter himself that told her that it was a woman who worked at the office she reached out to to get his permission to change the lyrics and she said it wouldn't work for a female artist. Martina was annoyed that a woman said that and then said that the songwriter was more than happy to adjust the lyrics for her. Also it was when this song was released when she won the CMA's Female Vocalist of the Year for the first time!

One can only hope! Speaking of, I did see your comment regarding the 2001 rankdowon and should sabre14 not be up to it, I'll be happy to take over the reins for that one as well. That said, I'll likely be going back to the 90s after this and then only after that would I swing back around to 2001. It's currently not claimed in the queue anymore, so it's yours if you want it regardless of what his schedule ends up looking like! But I totally figured you'd focus on the '90s again first either way, which is totally fine. We'll all just be patient and see what happens so I actually already had the list for 2001 done but where I was trying to get other rankdowns done and wanted to see them done sooner than later is the reason I passed them off to sabre14 but if he is unable to host and tim doesn't mind I can plan to do it this coming spring as I'd like to get that year done soon and I know you wanna get the 90s rankdowns going.

Also it was when this song was released when she won the CMA's Female Vocalist of the Year for the first time! I could have sworn in the liner notes to the Greatest Hits it said that the songwriter told her it wasn't intended for a female perspective, but it's been so long since I've read them I could be wrong! I'm glad to hear it sounds like he wasn't the instigator in this case though And even if it was well-received and didn't feel like much of a risk, it still was, lol. Her star power had to have been in just the perfect place to get radio to latch onto a 'unique' song like this. I can totally see it being a fan favorite right out of the gate though!

I plan on launching the next one sometime in early 2022, so hopefully we can coordinate so that doesn't happen.

Those'll both be a little bit "bigger-hype" events that should have no problem being wrapped up within those first couple months of the year though :)

Thank God for sabre14. The fact that Sara would've lost otherwise is a bit of a yikes because BTF is one of the most obvious country RD winners we've seen yet. The Chicks song is solid too though of course, but this was the correct outcome. 👏

"Born to Fly" is good, but never been a favorite of mine of Sara's career. The fact I still had it at #30 shows you how strong of a catalog she has, lol.
SHeDAISY SLAYED here! I am so pumped they finished top 5!! Well deserved and overall, a good Top 10.

Any of the top 3 would've been acceptable winners to me. I thought somebody might tank Sara simply because she's won so often in the past, lol.
