I could have sworn Blake said he was done releasing albums and was just going to release singles. I wonder what changed his mind... (I'm glad he changed his mind). He said at one point he was going to do EP's so he could release more music faster but he went back to making full albums after a few EP's so who knows what he thinks.

Luke Combs working on Bluegrass album, coming after Album #3 which is first!
Luke Combs' new song was written and recorded for a bluegrass album that's been put on ice, for now. The singer reveals that he spent part of 2020 on a side project. "The Great Divide" was released on Monday (Feb. 1). It features Billy Strings, a bluegrass guitarist, and was written in June 2020 by the pair plus Wyatt Durrette. Charlie Worsham also plays several instruments on the recording. "I wrote a bunch of bluegrass songs in June of this last year and I had plans to write a bunch more," Combs says in a video on social media, "and as COVID continued to get worse around the holidays I wasn't able to have a lot of those ... in-person writes." Now, as 2021 has begun, Combs says he has turned his attention to his third studio album. That means the bluegrass project — an album he's always wanted to record — is on the back-burner. The message of "The Great Divide" fits the moment however, so he chose to release it digitally across various platforms. tasteofcountry.com/luke-combs-bluegrass-album/

I'm confused. Is 29 an ep or just a short album?

If you have more songs to release from the album, then slap them on the album when the album is set to come out, and if you must make it deluxe, release it at Target or somewhere on the same day as the standard. I've stopped buying CDs at this point (yes I'm an old-fashioned Gen Z baby, we exist) until the deluxe editions are announced 'cause literally everyone and their mother's mother does it now. Just my .02, but I'm always willing to give Luke's songs a listen so I'm here for these new songs. zdm1998 Carly's 29 is a 7-song EP, that I'm assuming will act as her full-fledged third studio album with a deluxe edition later on, in a similar fashion as Ingrid Andress' Lady Like.

What I want to know is do these artists already have the deluxe songs recorded once the album comes out or do they decide after the fact to just make new songs to add on to the album to make more money? Because the latter is how I see it at the moment.

^They probably already have them before the deluxe version is released.
The main reason I see people doing deluxe editions to their albums is music is moving more and more to the streaming world. This is causing listeners to always be wanting something new; something more. Add this to the fact that the country charts move at a snails pace these days they are not able to get as many singles from an album. Releasing a deluxe re-sparks interest in the album enough so they can squeeze another single or two from the album. Like I see why they are doing it because I sure enough forgot about Luke's album despite it being released less than 6 months ago. The only alternitive would be to go ahead and include them on the standard release, but that would only lead to fans wanting more music anyway (the same outcome as before.)

I agree, this is getting really annoying. This rerelease is almost double the album. Not quite, but it’s significantly more songs than the original. I’m not impressed by this at all.

And here I thought that now with “Down to One” is close to peaking, Luke would *have* to choose one of the actual good songs left on the album as his next single. Watch whatever the single is from this deluxe edition be just as bland and uninspired as his 4 previous singles...
As for Carly, I’m disappointed we aren’t getting a full album quite yet but I’m still very excited for this EP!

One thing I love about modern music, despite all of its flaws, is that the days of having to wait 4-6 months from album announcement to release seem to be officially behind us. Like, Eric Church making folks wait from late January to April is the longest wait I've seen for quite some time.

So I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but Reba McEntire dropped a new compilation EP today... Love Revival - EP (February 5)1. Love Revival 2. Forever Love 3. Just A Little Love 4. She's Callin' It Love 5. Sunday Kind Of Love 6. Till You Love Me It's just six previously-released love songs from throughout her career. For a hot second I thought they were all re-recordings and I got so excited!! But nope, they're not. I'm so confused. It's obviously just a Valentine's Day gift to her fans or something, but I can find absolutely zero press about it. It's also super hard to Google because she already has a Hallmark-exclusive album called Love Revival from 2008. It's also on Apple Music, but not iTunes Store. I don't have Spotify, so I can't check if it's there. The artwork totally looks to me like it was just recycled from the Keep On Lovin' You era too, lol. Edit: Well, she tweeted about it!

I can confirm it is on Spotify. I hate when things are named the same as something already released previously. Really wish she had called it something else

So far it’s being a UMG thing to randomly release playlists for their artists to streaming services. It started with pop singers but now people like Kip Moore, Keith Urban, Gary Allan, LBT and now Reba have them.

I’ve seen these playlists (which they call “EPs” which is really annoying) for Taylor, Katy, The Rolling Stones, LBT, now Reba, among others. If they just called them playlists, cool, but by calling them EPs I wonder if it’s new music, then have to determine they’re not, and Apple Music lists them in the same EP category on an artists’ page. 🙄

Why is Eric Church’s & album not up for preorder on iTunes but Heart and Soul are? Most importantly, the & album is only available to the Church Choir.

I just saw this. I am wondering about the two albums Tanya has referenced in the last year that sounded like they were ready to go as they were recorded prior to the last album. I want to hear those albums as by the descriptions those two albums had songs with Jessie Colter, David Allan Coe, Brenda Lee and others. Also from what was said by people who have gotten early listen, these songs sounded like classic Tanya. I am a huge Tanya fan, and I did not like "While I'm Livin'" at all.

My guess is the label realizes there’s such a limited audience for Brenda Lee and Jesse Colter songs unfortunately. Tanya did a more traditional album My Turn and it sadly flopped. I own almost every Tanya CD and really did like While I’m Livin and obviously it brought her back to the mainstream. Hard for her not to continue the successful working relationship with Brandi. Also Tanya has a documentary movie coming out the beginning of 2022 that’s produced by Brandi so maybe this album is supposed to coincide with that?

^ Excited for this as she has an incredible voice! I am sad to not see "Hall of Fame" in the mix though as it would've been lovely to hear her do that one live, especially with those whistle notes.
