35. Woah Lil Baby
I found almost all of Lil Baby’s singles before this to be pretty annoying, so this was a pleasant surprise. The melody in the chorus is great, and his flow on the verses is impressive.

34. Seven Taylor Swift
This is easily my pick for the most underrated song on Folklore. Taylor’s vocals are gorgeous, the melody is very strong, and the lyrics pack an emotional punch. It made me rethink aspects of my own childhood. She really mastered her craft on this album.

33. What U Gonna Do??? Bastille f/Graham Coxon
I’ve liked a lot of Bastille’s material over the last couple years, but it’s nice to see them embrace their rock side a bit. Especially without sacrificing their strong sense of melody, which is on full display in the pre-chorus. This is leaps and bounds better than “Survivin’”.

32. Heartless Diplo f/Morgan Wallen (& Julia Michaels)
I absolutely love this song and Morgan’s gritty voice is the perfect fit. The grit as my favorite part of the song led me to be instantly turned off by the overproduced pop mess that is the remix, but somehow it ended up growing on me. Julia and Morgan admittedly sound great together in the chorus together, but the original is still easily the best. This had almost no burn rate for me.

31. Feel Something Illenium, Excision & I Prevail
I’m a big fan of EDM crossing genres (see the song above), so when my Illenium collaborated with my favorite metalcore band, I was on board instantly. It’s definitely more of an Illenium song than an I Prevail song, but the production is good, the buildup to the drop works perfectly, and the vocals are a nice fit.

30. I Finally Understand Charli XCX
Charli’s album is SO good, guys. Please listen if you haven’t. This is one of the more melodic songs on the album, and it’s a damn good melody. There are hooks just littered throughout, and I just love her voice on this.

29. So Bad JoJo
A perfect album opener. It showcases all of the best aspects of JoJo’s music. Subtle falsettos, big refrains, and melodic riffs. The drop into the chorus works magnificently and has a seductive intensity to it.

28. Funny Zedd & Jasmine Thompson
A lot of Pulsers didn’t seem too into this when it dropped, but it’s one of my favorite recent Zedd songs. Yes, the production is EXACTLY what you think it’s gonna be, but this song shines because of Jasmine. Her vocals are great (“Both MY EYES ARE ON HIS BODY”), she makes the melody memorable, and I enjoy the lyrics for what they are.

27. My Ex’s Best Friend Machine Gun Kelly f/Blackbear
This evolution of MGK has been awesome. He sounds great on this garage band sound, and this is one of his catchiest songs to date. Blackbear’s part works really well too. I’m glad it’s becoming a solid hit.

26. Positions Ariana Grande
This is actually my highest ranking of an Ariana single to date (although album track “Everytime” scraped the Top 25 in 2018). I haven’t listened to the album yet, but I really like her unique take on sex jams here and in “34+35” (which has grown on me quite a bit the last few weeks). She sounds great, and the chorus is a complete earworm.

24. Resentment A Day to Remember
Easily the best offering so far from their upcoming album. So much energy and an irresistible melody.

23. Lay Here With Me Maddie & Tae f/Dierks Bentley
Maddie Marlow’s and Dierks Bentley’s voices sound simply euphoric together. This is my favorite song by them since “After the Storm Blows Through”. Gorgeous throughout.

22. Secrets Regard & Raye
I thought their remix of “Ride It” was fine, but this is a much better offering overall. The chorus is so catchy and there are hooks littered throughout. The production has a nice vibe to it.

21. Sober Bad Wolves
New Nickelback. I’ve always enjoyed that band’s material regardless of what the haters say, and this totally channels their energy, especially in the bridge. It’s a step back from “Hear Me Now”, but I’m so here for this path.

20. Love Bites Ice Nine Kills f/Chelsea Talmadge
Speaking of melodramatic rock songs. This album’s resident ballad is inspired by An American Werewolf in London, and it’s an ultra cheesy 80s power ballad filled with werewolf puns. Yes please.

19. Good in Goodbye Madison Beer
This is probably her most generic song since her mini breakthrough with “Home With You”, but I can’t deny how catchy it is. A little short, but very memorable.

18. Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90s Sam Hunt
Essentially a sequel to “Break Up in a Small Town” in all aspects, from the spoken-word verses to the earworm chorus to the subject matter to the really lengthy title. I loved that one and I love this too. Rooting for it to match its predecessor’s success.

17. Break My Heart Dua Lipa
When this dropped, it was my least favorite offering from Future Nostalgia so far. Do with that information what you will. It’s an absolute jam. The pre-chorus >>>>>

16. The Other Girl Kelsea Ballerini & Halsey
I admittedly expected this to be a country song after hearing “You Should Be Sad”, but I wasn’t at all disappointed with what we got instead. Kelsea sounds phenomenal on this type of song, and I’d love to see her branch out genres even more on her next album. The lyrics are great and the chorus is extremely memorable.

15. ¿ Bring Me the Horizon f/Halsey
Another Halsey collaboration that I had completely different expectations for. Bring Me the Horizon is a rock band. This is an EDM song, with the band handling production and Halsey handling all vocals. I adore the lyrics and melody of her bit, and the extended drop keeps your attention throughout.

14. Sugar Brockhampton (f/Dua Lipa)
This was my first (and currently only) exposure to Brockhampton, but I absolutely loved this single. It’s really catchy, and I appreciate each verse being so different from the previous one, which keeps things fresh. It was a nice longevity hit for me, and then the Dua remix dropped and I loved it even more. It spent the majority of the year on my playlist and I enjoyed every single listen.

13. IT Is the End Ice Nine Kills f/JR Wasilewski, Buddy Schaub & Will Salazar
The last song from The Silver Scream to appear on this list. IT’s based on IT, if you couldn’t pick up on IT, and IT’s every bIT as manic as you would expect. This is a simply masterful composition. IT’s got a creepy Pennywise intro (which sounds exactly like Josh Gad for some reason), an absolutely psychotic chorus, and a powerhouse coda. What an ending to an amazing album.

12. Parasite Eve Bring Me the Horizon
I love the vibe of this one. It’s basically a warning about forgetting the real problems underlying the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s been turned into an absolute jam of a rock song. They quickly became one of my favorite bands with this album.

11. Forever Charli XCX
The highest ranking song on Charli’s latest album. The chorus is simple but extremely memorable, and the production tricks are really cool. I enjoyed most of the album, but this first single stuck with me from the beginning.

10. The Plan Travis Scott
So this is actually Travis’ highest solo ranking after “Sicko Mode” and “Highest in the Room” barely missed the Top 10 the last few years. This song is so fucking cool. Ludwig Goransson is the most interesting score composer to emerge in years, and this is one of his best. The production is simply outstanding, and Travis is the perfect fit to do something with it. I finally saw Tenet recently, which gave this the kick it needed to reach the Top 10. Perfect fit for the film as well.

9. Popular Monster Falling in Reverse
This was my biggest year for metalcore, so it’s only fitting that one of them managed to slide into the Top 10. The song has the same futuristic vibe that “Parasite Eve” had, and this one manages to blend hard rock and hip-hop seamlessly. The lyrics are one of the most brutally honest depictions of depression that I’ve ever heard, and the chorus is an absolute powerhouse. Absolute jam.

8. Future Nostalgia Dua Lipa
I know a lot of people consider this to be one of the weaker songs on its titular album. Those people are objectively wrong, and I won’t hear otherwise~ The lyrics aren’t the greatest, but she has the perfect voice for spoken-word verses, and I will take no slander about the chorus. “I know you’re dying trying to figure me out” is one of my favorite hooks of the year. Perfect album opener.
Oh and Dua’s not done by the way. Not even close...
