Sounds like she's going deeper into the "Deja Vu" sound for this album, which is what I was hoping for. Not sure how I feel about clinging to the high school aesthetic, but I guess if it ain't broke...

I'm not loving the graphic design choices so far, the covers and the back cover are lazy, and them reusing most of the color schemes from SOUR is kinda lazy too.
The new song sounds promising! Will have to spin it a few more times but it's way more interrsting than "vampire".

While much prefer her poppier tracks (Drivers License and Deja Vu), she really infuses so much fun and personality into mush of her music.

LOL the standard edition isn't even out. She can miss me with that bullshit.
Edit: @deleted, based on all the stuff I have read on Reddit from people who have heard the album in full, 7/12 songs are uptempo and mostly in the kinda pop-punk style she has done, so unless you have also heard the deluxe tracks, it seems like the album isn't mostly ballads.

okay, after my first listen:
all-american bitch this is sooo Avril Lavigne and I don't think I'm here for it. The verses are a total vibe, it would be a much better song if it was in that manner imo.
bad idea right? probably my favorite song from GUTS and I'm happy it got its moment and MV. "seein' you tonight it's a bad idea right? seein' you tonight it's a bad idea right?" lives in my head rent free in the last couple of weeks, it's reallyyy good. Not sure if it's on the same level as SOUR singles, but it might get there soon.
vampire totally makes sense this was the lead single, definitely the poppiest song on the album. Not a huge fan of the first half (it's still good), but that second half is fantastic.
lacy lorde?? Great song, and I think I'm gonna like it even more after my 3rd or 4th listen.
ballad of a homeschooled girl interesting song, the chorus is just too loud for my liking - if that makes sense? lol
making the bad I have a feeling this has the potential to be one of my favorites from the album, but it's not there yet. Solid.
logical it's just okay, nothing groundbreaking, probably bottom 3.
get him back yeeees, I hope this will be a single, there's something nostalgic about it.
love is embarrassing another single material and another bop. So interesting and fun to sing along to. Might be my 2nd favorite from the album.
the grudge one of the better ballads from the album, I like this.
pretty isn't pretty what a nice little chill song, nothing more than that.
teenage dream I like the lyrics, THAT bridge totally saved the song for me, so so catchy and it finished the album in style.
my top 5 so far:

It's so late here, and I don't have the strength for any detailing. Definitely not a better album than SOUR, nor do I think it'll be and lbr she set the bar SO high, but still a really solid effort. IMO it has more filler tracks than SOUR where almost every song could've been a single (8 songs to be exact lol).
If I have to rate it based on my first listen, probably between 7,5 and 8, but closer to 8.

I don't think I have been this excited about an album in a while. Literally pressed play at 12:00:00, and I listened to "Vampire" and "Bad Idea Right?" starting at 11:53 so that I could listen to the new songs faster lol. Upon first listen, I am officially in love with this album. <3 "Bad Idea Right?" is still my favorite, but "Lacy" and "Pretty Isn't Pretty" were so good and easily my faves of the tracks we hadn't heard.
Some quick reviews of each of the tracks:
All-American Bitch - definitely feeling the Avril vibes mentioned above. I think this was a really strong way to start the album!
Vampire - I was lukewarm on this on first listen, but it's grown on me in the past month or so. A really nice ballad and I like how it picks up.
Bad Idea Right? - Still my favorite on the album. I am in love with her sassy, playful energy in this one.
Lacy - For sure feeling the Lorde vibes here. This is a really nice little ballad, and the production really elevates this one for me.
Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl - As someone who can be a bit quirky and socially awkward at times, I relate to this so much lol. It's not *quite* a favorite, but I do really like it. "I can't think of a third line!" is such a good lyric haha.
Making the Bed - It's a nice little ballad, but not really anything special. I could see it growing on me later, but it's currently not a favorite.
Logical - It's fine, I guess. It's pretty but I don't find this memorable and can't see myself returning to it much. My least favorite on the album.
Get Him Back! - I love this! Yeah, the lyrics aren't the most mature, but I like how she delves into spiteful feelings we sometimes feel when somebody has done us wrong. She does a great job making it a playful exploration of these non-socially acceptable feelings too, which makes the song very appealing. I would be happy if they made this the third single once "Bad Idea Right?" has run its course (I would be sad if this somehow sabotaged "Bad Idea Right?"'s chart run so I hope they wait at least a little while)
Love Is Embarrassing - Love how catchy this is! This would also make a great single, although I think I'd prefer "Get Him Back!" if forced to choose between the two. Great track!
The Grudge - This is a really strong ballad and certainly the most passionate on the album.
Pretty Isn't Pretty - I absolutely adore this. The chill production is such a vibe and I love the overall atmosphere of the song. <3
Teenage Dream - Not my favorite ballad on the album, but still really good. I like the switch-up at the end of the song. It's not a favorite, but was a good way to conclude the album.
