Well what a thing to get all worked up about. How bout this, let's all LISTEN TO THE SONG FIRST, at least give it a chance before we label it as this monstrous atrocity that will wreak havoc on your lives. Chile let people share they thoughts on the idea of the collab before the song comes out, it ain't that deep lol. Both artists anyways don't have good track records so the response to them collaborating isn't shocking since we're coming off the nuisance that is Savage Love and piece of boring lifeless mediocrity known as Memories lol If it ain't that deep, why are people losing their sh*t over it? Quite honestly, I feel sorry for people who feel so threatened by one song that hasn't even come out yet, that we haven't heard, and that we don't know the lyrics to. Find something more substantial to be so upset about in your lives. And if we're going to bring up track records, I'll remind you that Savage Love and Memories were both big top 2 hits within the past year, regardless of anyone's opinion of the quality, so it would make sense they would seek a collab and think it could make an impact. But if it's any consolation, their latest singles, Take You Dancing and Nobody's Love, are flopping/under-performing, so no need for this impending dread that this will be an automatic multi-week #1 or anything.

The 34+35 remix turned out to be not much of an event. I wonder if Doja and Megan will be credit at all.

Love to see BMTH's old song getting some Tiktok traction.
Youth really seem to be into rock music now more than before which is great to see.

Rock/pop rock songs on Spotify (from the list above) US Spotify - 01/17/21
1(=) Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license 3,461,560 (-638,758) 24(=) Billie Eilish - Therefore I Am 515,307 (-59,654) 37(+3) Tate McRae - you broke me first 410,820 (-34,967) 43(+3) Glass Animals - Heat Waves 390,467 (-39,381) 45(+2) Machine Gun Kelly - my ex's best friend 383,546 (-35,450) 59(+1) AJR - Bang! 335,330 (-37,684) 69(+15) The Neighbourhood - Daddy Issues 314,506 (-14,005) 74(+14) Mother Mother - Hayloft 307,938 (-16,118) 97(+7) James Arthur - Train Wreck 274,938 (-22,259) 110(debut) All Time Low - Dear Maria, Count Me In 261,139 134(+7) Harry Styles - Golden 239,891 (-22,984) 136(-16) The Longest Johns - Wellerman 239,519 (-39,695) 166(debut) Bring Me the Horizon - Can You Feel My Heart 222,196
I'd think Drivers License belongs to this, it has the big pop rock ballad feel and some Lorde in it.
That's quite a lot and add country rock and Taylor to this list...

People are familiar enough with Adam Levineβs output, and Jasonβs, to have an idea or expectation on what theyβll think of this. Worst case scenario, for many, theyβll get what they expected. Best case: for some, theyβll be pleasantly surprised. Setting those expectations in a discussion is part of the rollout of a song/album. What I donβt understand is why youβre the one losing your sh*t over the response. Iβm sure most people are exaggerating or being dramatic on purpose but whatβs with yours?

At the very least, I have hope that this won't even chart, given that all of Jason Derulo's 2020 singles have failed to chart upon immediate release in the US (he's more of an international act nowadays) and that Adam Levine's solo work doesn't get the same level of traction his band gets when they release new music.Didn't Locked Away and Stereo Hearts both go number 1 on Pop? True, and there was also that Kanye West song that made the top 30, but it's been a relatively long time since Adam Levine solo has had a credit on a charting song, and he was on Lil Wayne's and Jack Harlow's most recent respective albums.

Iβm annoyed π at all the remixes to capitalize on the charts... savage set the standard. At least put some effort... Iβm happy for Streets by Doja taking off! Much more organic.

I wouldn't say Take You Dancing is a flop though, it was a top 10 hit in UK & Australia. It was just starting to take off in US before Christmas frenzy started so i guess this is it for it now that he's releasing another song.

Because the amount of exaggerated negative reactions is overwhelming and excessive, for a reason I know not what for exactly. I mean, yes, they are largely safe-ish mainstream pop artists who have been around for a while who put out music that is largely in a predictable style, but there's many other artists and songs that can fit this mold, and I'm wondering why they don't receive the same or any amount of criticism. People like Post Malone, Britney Spears, and Ariana Grande can receive the exact same criticisms, but don't.

I mean this is just my opinion but I don't think any of those three artists have had a hit song even 50% as bad as Savage Love or Girls Like You. And Adam Levine and Jason Derulo have never had a hit even 25% as good as Circles, Toxic, or Into You. So to me at least there is a clear difference. (And yes the above includes Makes Me Wonder and She Will Be Loved. Never been an Adam fan.)

People like Post Malone, Britney Spears, and Ariana Grande can receive the exact same criticisms, but don't. I think it depends on how you perceive βsafeβ and βpredictable.β Iβm not the biggest fan of Ariana, for example, but I wouldnβt lump her in with Maroon 5 in terms of how βsafeβ she is as an artist. Post Malone could be βsafeβ but heβs still relatively new and has established his own sound and style. You know a Post song when you hear it. Whereas Maroon 5 (and I guess Jason Derulo) are less adventurous and exciting with their music and other than distinguishing Adamβs vocals, you might not otherwise know whether itβs a M5 song or some other act. They get the hits, sure (well, Maroon does) but they do it with songs that are pretty straight-forward and in-line with whatβs in for pop radio. Britney hasnβt made new music in years and hasnβt had a legit hit in nearly a decade so Iβm not sure where she fits in. At any rate, I think there is a certain amount of safety and predictability needed for pop radio success and thereβs probably a fine line between too safe and just risky enough.

Actually, Love Not War has been already charting in the UK Singles chart for 4 weeks now and unfortunately, sounds a bit too much like Savage Love for my taste. So, Jason DeRulo didn't really need to release another song soon.

I would actually be looking forward to a Jason Derulo x Adam Levine collaboration in 2015 - where Derulo was heading towards an interesting direction and Maroon 5 had some of their better post-sellout hits with "Maps" and "Sugar" (not to mention "Feelings" from the parent album). Something fun could have come out of it.
As it is, though, in 2021, I don't have much expectations, but I hope to be proven wrong.

One More Night and Animals are easily my two favorite post-2011 Maroon 5 singles. All their other singles from this period are mediocre at best (though there were a few OK deep cuts on Overexposed and V).

Of the Adam Levine solos, my fave is LOST STARS from the Begin Again movie. Too bad he botched the live performance at the Oscars lol I was hoping it would get a boost with that exposure

Olivia's numbers were just so astronomically high, it would be impossible to maintain. Hopefully it'll level out a bit with radio catching up.
I think it'll get a good five weeks at #1 before something else takes over.

Does anyone else actually like Maroon 5.... they have some duds but I usually enjoy hearing them on the radio, especially their earlier work They definitely release the occasional single I love (One More Night, Sunday Morning, Wake Up Call, Girls Like You). It's funny because I almost never seek out their music (i.e. don't download or stream), but as you said I love hearing the songs on the radio. I don't know why the difference, but I do get why some songs might have airplay that outweighs the other metrics.

A real underrated gem by Maroon 5 is Sunday Morning.
