Oh no, I just realized I forgot to respond to your PM from a couple months ago asking what you should do when you were in Seattle ![:'(](//storage2.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) I'm so sorry!!! I was really busy when I saw it, and meant to come back and respond, but I never did!!! I hope you were able to have a nice trip anyway!! No worries, I figured you were busy, close to the end of the semester. I indeed had a nice trip Very snowy and cold, but I'm pretty much used to it Hahaha it's NEVER as snowy and cold in Western WA as it happened to be while you were there... You could not have timed that more perfectly or more horribly, depending on how you feel about snow and cold!

#4 Madeline Merlo - It Didn’t
The last song to miss top 3 is Madeline Merlo, but this is her best performance in this series by far! Neither of the two songs from the previous RD barely made it to the top half, but this song received five top 10 songs, including LBTrocks who did not enjoy her materials before, and I was the only one to place this in the bottom 10. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #25...lol)I was pretty surprised at this, as Madeline has not been favoured around here in the previous RDs, and I was almost going to exclude this song from this RD. I personally think this song to be not her best material, hence my #25, but still has a very strong melody and powerful chorus vocal. I really enjoyed it when I gave another listen right now. I hope she will release some new songs this year, as she was pretty quiet last year.

I absolutely LOVED "Good At Missing You" and am so glad that it ended up making the final cut for the 2021 country rankdown. I've already turned in my list for that and can tell you that it's pretty high up on my list!

"It Didn't" is the biggest surprise of the top 5 for me! I really liked the sassy energy of this one, and I definitely feel like I may have underranked it now, but I honestly felt like it would be one of the more polarizing female offerings. I may have let that affect my ranking a bit.

One of my biggest takeaways from this Rankdown that I haven't had a chance to comment on yet is how much steel guitar there was in this rankdown ![](http://i.imgur.com/2smy76v.gif) That was the biggest difference I noticed between this and the mainstream U.S. country market this year. Many of these songs had a very similar sound and style to what you hear on American country radio....with the exception that nearly every song in this playlist found ways to integrate steel guitar in really cool ways! Even the ultra-poppy, unique stuff like Sykamore's "Stay Broke" has steel guitar all over the chorus if you pay attention. It got me thinking, there is absolutely no reason why they can't keep modernizing the sound of country music while continuing to integrate steel guitar... I think it has the perception of being an "older" sound, so the executives are shying away from it. And yet the songs in this playlist all sounded perfectly modern while integrating steel guitar. So hopefully the U.S. mainstream market can get with the program! We think alike lol because this was the first thought I had myself after listening to all of the songs in the playlist. The steel guitar has long been one of my favorite instruments in country music and I remember being absolutely bummed when I last saw Clint Black in concert with no steel guitar in his set. I do think the labels are trying to incorporate the use of the instrument more, however, with Sam Hunt's "Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90's" as one example (although I think it's only used towards the end of the song).

#3 Sykamore - Stay Broke
Sykamore scored another #3 in this series! This did not perform that well in New Release RD, but made it to the top 3 here. This received five top 10 rankings, and one bottom 1 ranking. With this reveal, all the bottom half rankings have been cleared. Sykamore still has not released anything to the radio in Canada or in the US. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #14)This did better than I thought, considering its poor performance in the New Release RD. Alongside with Record High, this is my fav tune by her, so wish she had tried to send this to the radio. Hoping this will receive a better treatment in the YE RD. Melody is amazing, and Sykamore's transparent vocal is really pleasant in this song. The echo-ish production suits well with her voice and the mood of this song.

Mark that two years in a row where I am absolutely floored by Sykamore's staying power in this series! "Record High" was a surprise last year, but imo this one is even more of a surprise, as I honestly think "Record High" is her best song to date. I liked "Cheap Thrills" even more than "Stay Broke" this year, but obviously still love this one, as made clear by my #2 rank. There is just something about Sykamore's tone that I really am into ![](http://i.imgur.com/2smy76v.gif) Her voice is so light and pleasant to the ears. Hopefully the rumors of her being dropped from her label aren't true, 'cause I need more new music from her! Edit: Lmao I just realized Sykamore is my most-played artist of 2022 so far. Starting the year off with a bang!!!

Not sure why I ended up ranking "Stay Broke" so low this time around as it was in my top 10 when it was featured in the new releases rankdown. Something about it must've not clicked with me or I just wasn't feeling it at the time when I was completing this, but I definitely should've ranked it higher than I did.

#2 Tenille Arts - Give It To Me Straight
#1 Jess Moskaluke - Leave Each Other Alone ft. Travis Collins
This is it! Tenille Arts won the silver medal with Give It To Me Straight, being the second song to receive multiple #1 rankings. She redeemed herself here after Mad Crazy Love failing in the 2019 RD. The winner of this RD is Jess Moskaluke's collaboration with an Australian country singer Travis Collins. This song received six top 5 rankings and eight top 10 rankings, being the least polarizing song. This song did not perform well in STM RD, and missed the top 10 in the New Release RD (I recall it was below Tenille in that RD). This song was released as a single, but got dropped after the label switched to "Nothin' I Don't Love About You" (which is the worst song from the album ![:(](//storage2.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) ) CLD's Thought (Prediction: #1 for Tenille #5 for Jess)I am delighted to see Jess winning this RD, as this is my best fav song of 2021. The melody is amazing (sure, might be similar to Andrew Hyatt/Clay Walker's tunes...? lol), and the duet harmony vocal sounds spectacular. Can't believe that the label actually dropped this song to promote another song that I don't like... Tenille's tune has an amazing melody, and love this pre-breakup themed lyrics. It should have been a #1 hit in Canada. My prediction is that Tenille to be the best performing act of these five songs in the YE RD.

I was reading raylatch98 's prediction the other day, and was like, please be wrong about Sykamore going to be dropped! She didn't even receive a chance to be promoted to the radio!

Color me shocked to see a less-known competitor sneaking out a victory over one of Tenille's best songs! "Give It To Me Straight" is such a jam, and I absolutely love all the looks that she serves in the music video. (Hence me creating a banner from it to use as my signature, lmao). I second the prediction that Tenille will come out ahead in the mainstream U.S. year-end rd, as I could see hers being a top 20 contender there potentially, while the lack of familiarity may harm the other Canadian artists. I'm not really disappointed by this outcome though, as "Leave Each Other Alone" is another EXCELLENT song, and is honestly one that I still like more every time I hear it! Jess sounds great on this one, and I could see it being a huge hit for her. Can't believe they decided not to release it!!! Hopefully this one can also do some damage in the bigger mainstream rankdown ![:smokingdiva:](http://i.imgur.com/t6wcd.jpg) Thanks for hosting!!!! Always a lot of fun learning more about the market that you are enjoying every day!

I was definitely rooting for "Give It To Me Straight" as that is one which got a considerable bump on my list from when it was featured in the new releases rankdown (almost a year ago now lol!). "Leave Each Other Alone" is a solid song, though, and I can see why y'all enjoy it. I like the song well enough myself, but the production is a bit loud for my own personal taste and not something I'd want to put on repeat. Thanks again 🌺CountryLineDancer for doing these as I always love hearing the differences in production and sound from what we're hearing down here in the States. For one, y'all still know how to incorporate the steel guitar into a song with it still sounding modern enough for mainstream radio!

Closing ThoughtThank you everyone for joining. 2021 was personally strong year, and while some acts being quiet, like Kristin Carter, Madeline Merlo, or Chad Brownlee, I also made some discoveries throughout the year. I personally did not know some of these acts until last year, including Five Roses, Hailey Benedict, Danielle Ryan, and Nate Haller. Also looking forward to seeing how the top 5 songs going to perform in the YE RD, while i do not have a high expectations. My prediction from best to worst is (Tenille -> Jess -> Nice Horse -> Madeline -> Sykamore). While looks like some of y'all did not find the list to be as strong as the previous RDs, I am working on improving the 2018 YE list, which I am hoping to host around the spring of this year, so hope to see your lists again and hope you will enjoy the ranking experiences more next time (and Lindsay Ell was far better that year). Final Results1. Jess Moskaluke - Leave Each Other Alone ft. Travis Collins (42) 2. Tenille Arts - Give It To Me Straight (65) 3. Sykamore - Stay Broke (101) 4. Madeline Merlo - It Didn’t (108) 5. 2018 Year-End CAN Country RDDeadline: April 20
Back in the game!We are going back chronologically, and time for 2018 YE RD! As always, complied the list based on my understanding of Pulse's taste, as well as the popularity of the songs. As we go back in time, we start losing some new singers, like Tyler Joe Miller, but some singers that have disappeared coming back to the list, like Kira Isabella or Autumn Hill. Also, interesting addition would be Paul Brandt, who used to be popular in 90s, and Lindi Ortega from Bluegrass scene (you ranked her once in recordyear 's Indie series). Sorry to bboat11 , no Sykamore this year, but she'll be back in 2017. List of songs (35 songs) Aaron Goodvin - You Are Aaron Pritchett - Worth A Shot Alee - Don’t Make Me Miss You Andrew Hyatt - Habit Brett Kissel - Anthem Chad Brownlee - Dear Drunk Me Dean Brody - Good Goodbye Emerson Drive - The Road Emily Reid - Good Time Being Woman Gord Bamford - Dive Bar Heidi Raye - Lay Me On Down High Valley - Young Forever Hunter Brothers - Those Were the Nights Jade Eagleson - Got Your Name On It James Barker Band - Good Together Jess Moskaluke - Drive Me Away Kalsey Kulyk - More Time Kira Isabella - Danger Danger Lindsay Ell - Criminal Lindi Ortega - Lovers In Love MacKenzie Porter - About You Madeline Merlo - Neon Love Maddison Krebs - Real Real Thing Meghan Patrick - Wild As Me Paul Brandt - All About Her Petric - Can’t Say No Shawn Austin - You Belong Steven Lee Olsen - Timing Is Everything Tareya - White Flag Tenille Arts - I Hate This Tenille Townes - Somebody’s Daughter Terri Clark & Dallas Smith - One Drink Ago The Reklaws - Feels Like That Tim Hicks - The Worst Kind ft.
