1. What is going to be in the top 5/bottom 5? Top 5 - Terri Clark/Dallas Smith, Jess Moskaluke, Andrew Hyatt, Tim Hicks/Lindsay Ell, Madeline Merlo Bottom 5 - Lindi Ortega, Steven Lee Olsen, Wes Mack, Maddison Krebs, Heidi Raye
2. Any new discoveries? I loved "Drive Me Away" by Jess Moskaluke - I had never heard it before.
3. Which song is going to be the most polarizing one? "About You" by MacKenzie Porter
4. Somebody's Daughter, One Drink Ago, I Hate This, and Criminal were #88, #64, #60 #17 in the bigger YE RD, respectively. How do they do here? "One Drink Ago" hopefully will do much better!
5. Any thought compared with 2021, 2020, or 2019 YE RD lists? Weaker/stronger? I don't think I participated in the 2020 RD but between the other years, I think the 2021 had the strongest group of songs.

I barely knew any of the acts here and none of the songs, so they were all discoveries for me personally.

I didn't get a chance to make any predictions yet, but I will just say that if Terri Clark and Lindsay Ell don't find a way to resurrect their top 2 battle this time around, I will be pretty shocked! The way "I don't love you" and "Young as We Are Tonight" managed to dominate previously, this SHOULD be pretty easy for "Criminal" and "One Drink Ago", which are both even better, lmao.
The only slight reservation I have is that this isn't a very big participant list, so if anybody randomly tanked Terri she won't have much wiggle room to recover. Regardless of participation size though, this is 100% "Criminal's" chance to absolutely obliterate everyone, lmao.

Stay tuned! Speaking of Lindsay Ell and Terri Clark, both just released great brand new singles (Terri with Gord Bamford), and Sykamore also has a new one, so Canadian country music scene has been exciting for the last couple of weeks!

Reveal Time!Opening Thought: Okay, sorry about the delay, but now is the time! 2018 list was honestly not my best favourite, but still, most of the songs in the list is in my playlist. We see some old faces here, like Emerson Drive or Paul Brandt, while missing new figures, such as Tyler Joe Miller or Sykamore. From independent scene (those did not chart), I invited Maddison Krebs, Heidi Raye, and Tareya. From roots scene, Lindi Ortega was chosen to be in this one. As usual, there are also some songs that were introduced to the US radio scene, including Somebody's Daughter, Criminal, and I Hate This. #1 hit is leaving at #35! tim ccarter1023 castleoblivion26 nathanalbright James bboat11 LBTrocks .indulgecountry

#35 Aaron Goodvin - You Are
Losing #1 song right off the bat! Aaron Goodvin is not really favoured around here, even though he has been sending some materials to the US radio. This was his first #1 hit in Canada. nathanalbright and .indulgecountry are losing their bottom spots with perfect rankings, while ccarter1023 lost one of their top 10 song. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #35...Perfect Ranking!)This song isn't really bad, but I don't really love the production, and I bet that is the reason for those low rankings by some participants. I prefer his rock-sounding songs over this production for sure. He has a newer song called "You Ain't", the opposite title, and it is far nicer.

#34 Maddison Krebs - Real Real Thing
Already losing a female at #34! ccarter1023 correctly predicted this to be in the bottom spot. This was one of the picks I made from an independent artist, but apparently did not get a positive review here. She is originally from south Alberta, and working in both AB and Nashville. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #19)This song has a catchy melody, even though it is very cheap lyrically and production wise. She has another song that I like with slower and less poppy production, called I Got It Now, so I should have tried that one instead...?

Hmm, apparently I liked Aaron Godvin's song more than most! Honestly, I don't feel too much for it in any direction though. I didn't really hate anything in this list, but there are also less songs that I love than normal, so there isn't much difference between this one and my #35 in terms of quality, imo. I can imagine someone finding it to be annoying and generic, but that could be said for nearly every male/group song in this list tbh.
Normally I'm pretty predictable in my support for female artists, but I found "Real Real Thing" to be a bit towards the annoying side of things, and Maddison doesn't seem like a vocalist that adds much to the scene (but I'm also not going to write her off after this one song!)

"You Are" was obnoxious! That annoyingly happy-go-lucky melody, the snap-claps, cheap/corny production... it was terrible lol.
Didn't care for the instrumentation or production on "Real Real Thing" either. I think I like her voice tho, so maybe with a better song I'd like her!

That Aaron Goodvin song was one of the most atrocious things I've heard in my life. ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png)

#33 Jade Eagleson - Got Your Name On It
Losing the regular face of this series! Jade Eagleson was introduced to Pulse with Close, which got top 10 in 2020, but since then, he has been descending the ladder and ended up joining the bottom 3 with this tune. This was his debut single, and certified Platinum in Canada. James got rid of their bottom ranking, while tim lost their top 10. Also castleoblivion26 scored the perfect ranking. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #21)This song is pretty solid, but ended up sounding a bit weak, compared with other songs in the list. Also not his best song by any means. Still, his voice is sounding well here. I recall this might be sent to the US as well for a bit, but I might be wrong.

#32 Lindi Ortega - Lovers In Love
First top 3 loss of this RD is here by nathanalbright ! On the other hand, ccarter1023 got rid of their bottom spot. I added Lindi in the last minute as a singer from roots scene, and she showed up in recordyear's personal RD. There is also a version with Corb Lund. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #11)While her vocal arrangement could be polarizing, I was expecting this to do better, as this has a really nice production and this music has more country element than other pop oriented songs. This result makes me feel reluctant to add roots music in the future series... This is one of my favs from Lindi, and the instrumental production is just very pleasant.

#31 The Reklaws - Feels Like That
The last song to fill the bottom 5 is The Reklaws. This was also the third least polarizing song. They have been performing not bad in the previous RDs, but they were not favoured in this one and the recent new release RD (11 Beers with Owen). This was their first #1 song on the chart. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #23)This one has a pleasant melody, but the lyrics are kind of okay + the vocal arrangement of Stu Walker sounds a bit rough here. I still was not expecting the bottom 5 though!

#30 Steven Lee Olsen - Timing Is Everything
This is the debut of Steven Lee Olsen to this series, and did not have a good start at all... bboat11 got rid of his last spot here! He is known more as a songwriter in the US, songs written by him include NO SAD SONGS, Keep Up (RaeLynn), Blue Ain't Your Color etc. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #25)I quite like this song, while Steven is quite hit or miss for me. It's pretty catchy, and the melody is nice. I understand that this sounds less like a country music though, and thus, not surprised to see its early exit.

#29 High Valley - Young Forever
One of the tractors' least fav High Valley is leaving here. This song was particularly disliked, and received four bottom 5 rankings. I became the first one to lose the #1, and nathanalbright lost another one of their top 5. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #29...Perfect Ranking)Well...don't bother @ing my ranking, but this is my fav song by High Valley, as well as Grew Up On That. I just have a memory with this song, and love the melody. I was ready for this though, as they were always disliked here. But I also realized that they are not hated by all the country posters, reading the posts on Grew Up On That or Single Man. It just happened to be the case that the participants here have strong hatred towards their style, and hence, I did the favor of omitting them (Whatever It Takes) in 2021 ![:D](//storage2.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) . They just released a single called Country Music, Girls, and Trucks (sounds promising eh), with Granger Smith (another unpopular figure, especially among LBTrocks and .indulgecountry ), so they may miss the 2022 series, unless it becomes a huge hit.

#28 James Barker Band - Good Together
Total: 192 Average: 21.33 Std Dev: 6.73 (5th Lowest) Chart Peak: #6
James Barker Band YE RD History
2019 #29 There’s A Drink For That 2021 #30 New Old Trucks ft. Dierks Bentley JBB is never liked here, and this song was not the exception. 20 +/-2 was the popular spot for this song, and ended up becoming one of the least polarizing songs. LBTrocks got rid of another one of their bottom 5 songs. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #27)Pretty generic lyrics, but I like this song well enough, has a nice melody and catchy. I am going to see JBB this weekend for the first time, opening for Dallas Smith and supported by Meghan Patrick, Jojo Mason, Shawn Austin etc, so excited for that.
