#22 High Valley - Grew Up On That
Total: 193 Average: 17.55 Std Dev: 9.10 Peak on Billboard Canada Country: #1 Album: First single from Grew Up On That EP George Strait Junkie -5 🌺CountryLineDancer - 5 James - 8 ClevelandRox - 13 castleoblivion26 - 17 jamesflame - 17 tim - 19 bboat11 - 24 Kanenrá:ke - 26 .indulgecountry - 29 LBTrocks - 30 The last High Valley Style to leave is, of course High Valley. Also, the first song to leave that has a thread on our Country Board. This was promoted in the US, but only charted in Indicator/Music Row, sadly to me, good for .indulgecountry and LBTrocks . This song has less of bluegrass vibe compared with Make You Mine or Single Man, but still did poorly on this RD. I really like this song, one of their best, along with Young Forever. Still hard to understand how High Valley is the one always being promoted in the US.
Next up is #21. Losing another female and 3 people are losing top 5!

#21 Kristin Carter - Double Take
Total: 188 Average: 17.09 Std Dev: 9.96 Peak on Billboard Canada Country: Did not chart Album: TBA jamesflame - 2 :'( LBTrocks - 3 :'( ClevelandRox - 5 :'( James - 13 bboat11 - 16 Kanenrá:ke - 22 .indulgecountry - 23 tim - 23 George Strait Junkie -25 🌺CountryLineDancer - 26 castleoblivion26 - 30
If you ask me, Kristin Carter is one of the best and most underrated Canadian Country singer and pretty sure she is the strongest vocalist in Vancouver. I love everything about her, voice, song writing, and personality. My low rank was only because I saw her twice at concert, as well as attended all the streaming concerts, and I know she has sooooo many great songs that are yet to be released. Compared to those, this is not my fav. While it was heartbreaking to giver her this low rank, I knew I had to rank based on the song, not my personal attachment. I just want the label to release all the awesome songs that she has, and you'll see them once they are out, as pretty sure I'll posts about her. She started her radio career in 2019 with KARMA, which is a gorgeous masterpiece and the reason why I adore her.
I will continue tomorrow!

"Double Take" was easily my least-favorite female song in the lineup. The way she just screamed her way through the song was off-putting.

Kinda all over the place with the results so far haha
Honestly the current acts in Canadian Country don't interest me all that much. There's some bright spots but something about this current era (2018-present) just isn't clicking with me as much.

#20 Hunter Brothers - Silver Lining
Total: 187 Average: 17 Std Dev: 8.23 Peak on Billboard Canada Country: #11 Album: 3rd single from State of Mind bboat11 - 6 jamesflame - 9 🌺CountryLineDancer - 9 James - 10 castleoblivion26 - 14 ClevelandRox - 15 Kanenrá:ke - 20tim - 21 LBTrocks - 27 .indulgecountry - 28 George Strait Junkie -28 Hunter Brothers is the first Saskatchewan singer to leave, barely escaped bottom 10 by 1 point. They have been regular chart hitter since 2016, and regular winner of Saskatchewan Country Music Award. HB consists of 5 actual brothers, but too old to be classified as a "country boy band." Their strong harmony is definitely their selling point. Most of their music is positive and poppy, like this song. While the lyrics are kinda generic, I really enjoy this fast-tempo production as well as melody. One of my favs by them for sure.
Next up is #19. 2 people will lose #2s!! Clue:

#19 Meghan Patrick - My First Car
Total: 185 Average: 16.82 Std Dev: 10.46 (3rd Highest!!) Peak on Billboard Canada Country: Not released Album: TBA .indulgecountry - 2 tim - 2 Kanenrá:ke - 7 George Strait Junkie -11 bboat11 - 14 jamesflame - 18 LBTrocks - 19castleoblivion26 - 26 🌺CountryLineDancer - 27 James - 29 ClevelandRox - 30 .indulgecountry and tim lost #2 while ClevelandRox lost his #30! There are a few songs in my mind for this RD by Meghan. I chose this only because this was sent to the US radio. (Other options were; Girls Like Me is meh, Things I Shouldn't Say will be in 2019). Her radio career started in 2016, and has been regular top 20 hitter since then. A little worried that her momentum is not as strong now, as two of her most recent singles failed to crack top 20. I like Meghan, and I was rooting for this in the US, but this is far from her best. Neither melody nor lyrics were appealing to me. Still, glad to see Meghan's name started to be recognized in the US, more than just a partner of Mitchell Tenpenny, aka a popular face in Pulse.
Next up is #18. Losing a duo!

I just don't get how people do not like "My First Car." To me it is a total jam. I continue to be mystified by the lukewarm reception it's gotten on Pulse. :/

#18 Sons of Daughters - I Picture You
Total: 176 Average: 16 Std Dev: 6.899 Peak on Billboard Canada Country: #44 Album: TBA jamesflame - 6 castleoblivion26 - 6 ClevelandRox - 11 .indulgecountry - 13 🌺CountryLineDancer - 13 Kanenrá:ke - 15 tim - 20 George Strait Junkie -20 LBTrocks - 22 James - 24 bboat11 - 26 Unfortunately for Kanenrá:ke , your higher duo is leaving first. Sons of Daughters is a duo currently in Nashville, originally from North Vancouver aka brewery heaven, consisting of Jimmy Thaw and Chrystal Leigh. Jimmy Thaw is also a songwriter (there's an article about him on Music Row), wrote for Canadians like Tebey or Wes Mack. They started their radio career in 2019 with Ain’t Gonna Be Lonely Long (#12), while I don't see any momentum after that song. Underrated! I was upset that this ended up failing on the chart. Lyrics are generic again, but their harmony is magnificent and melody is very pleasant. They are quite good at concert as well.
I will go out for a bit, but may continue. The next 3 songs are tying, and the first one to leave has the highest Std. And 1 person will lose his #1!!!!

That Hunter Brothers song was AWFUl! I can't with all these Mumford and Son-- I mean The Lumineers-- I mean High Valley... styled songs lol. Horrid sound that I can't believe has caught on. #notmycountrymusic
"My First Car" low-key sucks ngl. If a dude sang these lyrics we'd be dragging him and the song for filth, lol. They're terrible. It's just a grating song... extremely and unnecessarily overproduced. I don't enjoy it. That said, it magaged to sneak into my top 20 just because there was sadly a lot of worse songs on this list. Anyway, thrilled to have a perfect ranking here lol.

Did you give consideration to including Andrew Hyatt or Buck Twenty? I’m sure there are others I’m not thinking of that I would’ve considered but was surprised to not see those two.

Okay, I'm back Group A jamesflame castleoblivion26 Kanenrá:ke LBTrocks Group B .indulgecountry James ClevelandRox 🌺CountryLineDancer One group will be happy, the other will be disappointed for #17 This song is in either top 10 or worst 10 of all the rankers. (Nobody ranked this between 9 ~21) James I didn't know about Buck Twenty until All I Can Do. Maybe this year-end, they will join. For Andrew Hyatt. I will definitely include Neverland for this year, and likely Didn't Know Me in 2019. Just didn't enjoy I Needed That, so it was excluded for 2020

#17 Madeline Merlo - Kiss Kiss
Total: 173 Average: 15.72 Std Dev: 11.61 (Highest!!) Peak on Billboard Canada Country: #13 Album: TBA James - 1 ClevelandRox - 2 .indulgecountry - 3 🌺CountryLineDancer - 6 bboat11 - 8 tim - 22 George Strait Junkie -22 LBTrocks - 24 castleoblivion26 - 27 Kanenrá:ke - 29 jamesflame - 29 Group B is the sad ones.... James becomes the first one to lose #1 in this RD. Darn, I would have changed my ranking if it was legal! I didn't expect this to be the most polarizing!. You may know Madeline Merlo as the winner of Songland and the writer of Champagne Night by Lady A. She's been regular chart hitter since 2014, while never had #1 hit, sadly. Her music style is very poppy, but yet, many of her music have strong melody and she's a great writer. I really like this song, and she's my favorite local star (from Maple Ridge BC), along with Kristin Carter. Even if you didn't like her this time, hopefully you'll find something better in the future RD. Next up is the second most polarizing song. 2 people will lose #30, and 1 person will lose #1

Oh GOOD! I'm glad "Kiss Kiss" didn't make it too far cuz what an abysmal song! The production is terrible, those snap-claps are nauseating. The melody is lackluster af. Madeline Merlo also sound fairly meh as a vocalist. Another example of 'bro country in female form' lol. HARD pass. Canada can keep this

#16 Orville Peck, Shania Twain - Legends Never Die
Total: 173 Average: 15.72 Std Dev: 10.76 (2nd Highest!!) Peak on Billboard Canada Country: Did not chart Album: Show Pony EP jamesflame - 1 Kanenrá:ke - 5 .indulgecountry - 7 LBTrocks - 9 castleoblivion26 - 9 ClevelandRox - 12 bboat11 - 17 tim - 25 James - 28 George Strait Junkie -30 🌺CountryLineDancer - 30 This song was included only because it's an interesting combination; Shania and Orville. This charted only in Australian Country Airplay Chart. Orville Peck has a very interesting background being also a drummer of Canadian punk band Nü Sensae. He has very unique voice and delivery, and I was quite excited for this collaboration. However, didn't work for me. I like their voices individually, but harmony was not good. Also, I found the chorus melody was quite awful.
I will continue tomorrow!

Orville Peck's best song to date! Still not the greatest because he has a fairly mediocre voice, but Shania Twain elevated it A LOT.

Intermission 3: Steven Lee Olsen - Can't Not
Peak on Billboard Canada Country: #23 Album: TBA George Strait Junkie ClevelandRox jamesflame James bboat11 🌺CountryLineDancer castleoblivion26 Kanenrá:ke .indulgecountry tim LBTrocks Steven Lee Olsen is a singer songwriter from Ontario. You may remember him from Raised By A Good Time, which was promoted in the US back in 2014. He also co-wrote Blue Ain't Your Color by Keith Urban and More Girls Like You by Kip Moore. While he has not been releasing music to radio constantly, he usually does well on the chart, at least top 25. This song has solid instrumental production, like many of his other songs. This was replaced by Alli Walker to increase female singers.
Drop you thought on this if any!

I thought "Kiss Kiss" was excruciating upon first listen....and then it grew on me all the way up to #8, so... I can understand people who hate it and people who love it! "Legends Never Die" is a solid song! Not something I'm going to regularly go out of my way to listen to, but I did enjoy discovering it in taylor's year-end personal rd, and it held up well in this rd!

#15 Matt Lang - Getcha
Total: 173 Average: 15.72 Std Dev: 8.60 Peak on Billboard Canada Country: #5 Album: Second Single from More George Strait Junkie - 1 LBTrocks - 4 .indulgecountry - 10 bboat11 - 13 castleoblivion26 - 15 tim - 15🌺CountryLineDancer - 17 James - 21 Kanenrá:ke - 23 jamesflame - 25 ClevelandRox - 29 George Strait Junkie loses his #1 here. His #1 and #30 (Legends Never Die) had the same points! Matt Lang is Quebec-native country singer. His radio career started in 2019, and this is his second single. His biggest hit so far. Great instrumental production, catchy melody going well with his voice... Love it! He is one of the new waves in Canadian Country Music scene, and his career looks quite promising!
Next up is #14. We are losing another non-chart hitter.

Total: 170 Average: 15.46 Std Dev: 7.97 Peak on Billboard Canada Country: Did not chart Album: The Basement Sessions: What I've Learned So Far jamesflame - 4 bboat11 - 7 tim - 8 LBTrocks - 11 Kanenrá:ke - 13 🌺CountryLineDancer - 14.indulgecountry - 16 castleoblivion26 - 19 ClevelandRox - 25 George Strait Junkie -26 James - 27 Alli Walker is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter, originally from Prince Edward Island. I really like her unique voice, and Little Things has such a beautiful production and melody. One of my favs for sure. She describes her style as "Mindful Music" or "Conscious Country" and you can enjoy her "vulnerable storytelling" in many of her songs. It's unfortunate that she hasn't started her radio career yet, as she deserves more recognition! (Assuming most of you have never heard of her before).
#13, the third least polarizing song is leaving

Brett Kissel is the first Canadian Country Radio A-Lister to lose. While he was never promoted in the US to my knowledge, he has been constantly having successful radio career since 2013. This catchy jam is definitely one of my favs from Kissel, and his 3rd #1 hit. I can see many participants had kinda neutral views to this song. He was the winner of the Entertainer of the Year in Canadian Country Music Award 2020. His new album is coming up in a week!!
Next up, losing a singer that most of you had ranked recently for a different RD.
