It's hard to separate the art from the artist but it's harder when it's something hugely impactful like Michael Jackson or JK Rowling.
I still enjoy "Thriller" and Harry Potter but I have adjusted my views and my perception about them in the context of the flawed individuals that produced them.
But Mullet s**tface hasn't made a big enough impact for this to be a hard decision. Let's just collectively forget about him and move on.

I got a bad feeling that Fake Woke is about to be replaced as No.1 on iTunes...by Wasted on You. The best part about watching digital sales is knowing that the majority of people who buy them are...of a certain age, while streaming skews way younger. The MAGA tracks do well on iTunes, but βFDTβ hit #11 on Spotify after the 2020 election. These twats are a dying breed

So this Morgan Wallen talk has opened up a debate that Iβve been thinking out for a while now, can you seperate the person from the artist? It all depends. I feel like if an artist has committed a punishable offense, they should be punished for their actions. Whether that punishment comes from being shutout from the music industry or being punished by the law or both, they should be made to face the consequences of their actions and THEN, if they've become reformed after said punishment, they should be given a second chance. Of course, this is easier said than done and if a problematic artist has a fanbase that doesn't care about any offenses they might have committed, the support will never truly go away and they'll remain fine. In cases like that, the most they do is disappear from the public consciousness for a while and then resurface after a few weeks/months like nothing happened with the hope that people have moved on by then. Personally, I assume every famous and rich person is trash and has done/said problematic things behind the scenes because no one is perfect so I'm hardly ever surprised when they get exposed. I'm a fan of people strictly for their artistic or athletic contributions to society and nothing else. I don't look up to any famous person as a role model or someone I should fashion my life after and I believe more people need to do the same. You shouldn't look up to a person simply because they're more rich, more famous and more successful than you are.

Morgan Wallen's Music Removed From iHeart and Entercom's Radio Stations and Others Following Racial Slur Only a few hours after a video of Morgan Wallen using a racial slur emerged on TMZ, radio stations have reacted swiftly. iHeartMedia, the largest radio station group in the country, has pulled his his music.
"In light of Morgan Wallenβs recent actions involving the use of a racial slur, we have made the decision to remove his music and content from our stations effective immediately," an iHeart spokesperson told Billboard.
Cumulus Media has pulled the rising country super's music from its more than 400 stations, according to Variety. By Melinda Newman 2/3/2021
We LOVE to see it! The further he falls into the abyss, the better. The liberal media and social media will never let this go either. ππΏππΏππΏ

What does this even mean? I would have been here for this if they said they dropped him from their label. That's a more radical response. This just seems like it's meant to pacify people and act like it's more fiery than it actually is.

They probably are gonna stop promoting his songs/album at the moment, but not drop him.

Wasnβt Chris Brown removed and blacklisted from radio and sales or anything at βthatβ time, cause if he was, then sadly Morgan Wallen would be completely fine in the long run
Edit: Until i just saw his label dropped him. Yea he is completely over now

So this Morgan Wallen talk has opened up a debate that Iβve been thinking out for a while now, can you seperate the person from the artist? The question is very loaded and to me is a personal choice. I will paraphrase what I said when we were discussing the same thing a month ago when talking about Go Crazy and Chris Brown. I will also add that if you choose to critique a person - and especially if you praise their art - that also does not mean you're bad and you support their work. If you regularly listen to any other artist that's been caught with similar behavior, that does not make you a bad person. Nor does it mean you're supporting they're actions [but] We can take the things we like about an artist we don't agree with or support, and see them in other, [less problematic] artists.

At least there's no proof that he isn't. JK Rowling on the other hand...everyone knows her views

I don't think "separating the art from the artist" is really possible, but I'm also aware that whether or not I choose to stream someone's music isn't really gonna have a larger impact on their career when they're as successful as someone like Morgan Wallen (edit: not anymore tho welp). And a lot of the most important and influential artists of all time were absolutely awful people.
Someone's actions can definitely change my relationship with the music though. I listened to All Falls Down for the first time in a while a few days ago and it felt super weird within the context of Kanye's current... Kanyeness. Lana Del Rey's string of bad political takes casts her Americana aesthetic in a different light. On the other hand, while Dua pulling a Carmen Sandiego during the pandemmy sucks, it doesn't make Levitating slap any less.

holy SHIIIIIT ok, does this reference Big Loud's suspension of him, or did they actually DROP drop him?

It's important to note the wording from Morgan Wallen's label(s). "In the wake of recent events, Big Loud has made the decision to suspend Morgan Wallen's recording contract indefinitely. Republic Records fully supports Big Loud's decision and agrees such behavior will not be tolerated." Nowhere in there does it say he has been dropped. This is simply a PR move so the label looks like it's taken decisive action following how radio stations and DSPs responded to the situation. He's making his label(s) the most money right now. They aren't dropping him and he'll most likely come off suspension in a few weeks after he has donated money to black businesses/charities and done some late night TV appearances talking about the situation and apologizing.

In some good, light-hearted country news, the frontman of Brothers Osborne came out today (which is honestly huge for country music, and Iβm glad he felt comfortable enough in the industry to share his story)! β€οΈ

Iβm from the NYC area so I actually never heard of Morgan Wallen until today. But a country artist caught being racist? Shocker. Iβm pleasantly surprised to see that the rather conservative country music industry is punishing him already. That alone is progress. I would have been here for this if they said they dropped him from their label. That's a more radical response. This just seems like it's meant to pacify people and act like it's more fiery than it actually is. Correct me if Iβm wrong, but if they dropped him couldnβt another label swoop in and sign him tomorrow? It seems this way is actually greater punishment since it effectively chains him to a label that refuses to promote him.

If Eminem after promoting homophobia, misogyny, violence, abuse & rape his whole career is still having huge fanbase (that defends his every action), unwavered sales & relevance in popculture without sincere remorse then Morgan will be fine after this cools down coz his fans/MAGA guys will find excuses & explanations like stans do & ppl after few years will stop giving shit if he's racist/not π¬

Country music industry becoming woke and queer, we love to see it. I'm hesitant to call this country music becoming more woke and not just PR damage control. Once they de-blacklist Kacey Musgraves and stop promoting other country acts like Jason Aldean and Gabby Barrett, then we can talk
