Speaking of Wallen's controversy, I don't remember Chris Brown being cancelled like this after the Rihanna incident by his own community. He had a lot of bad press that year when it comes to mainstream media but the Urban Community was very silent about it, while we have many country artists dragging Morgan Wallen for his behaviour. Wallen also has been banned from the country music awards: CMAs, ACMs and CMTs while the BET awards welcomed back Chris with a performance and awards a year later and he was already getting urban and pop radio hits in 2010 with Deuces and Yeah x3. BET was even playing his videos the same year he beat Rihanna in 2009 (remember the I Can Transform Ya video) I wonder if Morgan Wallen will have a second chance with country radio/music awards in the future. His album that year did terrible at Urban radio? It was temporary but there was a reaction in the Urban community. At R&B/Hip Hop radio going from 2007-08: Kiss Kiss - #1 With You - #5 Take You Down - #4 No Air - #4 To 2009: I Can Transform Ya - #11 Crawl - #59 Third single cancelled Was a pretty much overnight blacklist at the time. Also the BET Awards performance you’re referencing I believe is when he tributed Michael Jackson and did “Man in the Mirror” as a sort of public apology moment. It’s not like he just promoted his own new music there as if nothing happened. Most notably, times are obviously a bit different. This entire past year has been huge for racial justice, and in general since social media rose people are better (and more pressured) at publicly calling out problematic behavior. I’m sure had this video of Morgan leaked in 2009 almost nothing would’ve happened in terms of the Country industry responding. So it makes this whole comparison to applaud Country’s reaction compared to Urban’s in 2009 kind of weird.

There’s a side of me that kind of believes that they’re doing all this action just cause it’s black history month, and so that the label and every other media behind Morgan doesn’t get into a lot of heat as he’s in right now. It’s huge publicity and ‘clout’ for him. How do you think he hit #1 on iTunes and still has a few songs in the top 20 on both it, and apple music right now instead of all of them plummeting to it’s fall like it deserves to right now. Don’t get me wrong, i do not condone his actions at all, and he does deserve everything he’s getting right now, but i sadly do think that if this were any other month he wouldn’t get as much controversy as he is getting right now. And in the long run, when all of this dies down i think he’s going to be given another chance which is disappointing yes, but it’s how the industry moves when they have a mainstream artist under their label or distribution

^ The cynic side of me does think so as well, but I do want to remain positive, and focus on the current actions taken regardless of the timely circumstances.

Smh if we give the racist some clout we might as well do the same with the murderer. I don't see how Silento is worse than Morgan, or honestly even YNW Melly in that regard. Watch Me was robbed of the #1 slot, might as well make it take the crown next week. Okay now you're just reaching.

A big release from a big name artist can't come any sooner, the charts are so boring.

The Me Too movement has been pretty slow at hitting the music industry, many actors/directors have been cancelled and never returned to commercial success. There's something about music where no matter how bad anyone is outed, they will still be substantial fans. I mean, look at John Lennon.
I would like for Chris Brown to never have a career ever again, or 6ix9ine as a more recent example. But having this "whataboutism" for Morgan doesn't help anyone, as someone said earlier in the thread action against any terrible person is good overall. Plus this N-word controversy isn't the first time Wallen has fucked up like this, he got his second chance when SNL allowed him back on despite risking the public health (letting Dua Lipa on was also a serious disappointment since she doesn't care about all the COVID victims either, but one controversy at a time).

By the way that Murder on my Mind song went #1 on Apple Music after he was arrested. www.complex.com/music/2019/02/ynw-melly-murder-on-my-mind-no-1-on-apple-music#:~:text=%40YNWMelly's%20%22Murder%20On,1%20on%20US%20Apple%20Music.&text=When%20the%20news%20of%20double,took%20place%20in%20October%202018.

Hopefully with radio dropping Morgan Wallen they take the opportunity to give Hole in the Bottle and Starting Over more spins as well as To Hell and Back.

The fact that Wallen’s getting huge boosts on iTunes specifically BECAUSE he said the N word is so gross and yet so strange to me... I can’t imagine the thought processes the people actively going out and spending money on his music because of this are having right now (well actually I guess I can since many of them probably say that same word all the time)

At least that guy from Brothers Osborne gets to say “f***ot” now A more appropriate response would be congratulating him on coming out. Don't pretend that being able to reclaim the slur makes all the homophobia worth it. Jesus Christ y'all are annoying sometimes... If you don't get the joke, move along.

Hits also posted Record label marketshare. link
- Iterscope
- Atlantic
- Republic
- Capitol
- Columbia
How surprising. But they added this.
Are they just purely speculating or not. I remember them saying "there is a big artist dropping, but the chances are slim." Before Eminem dropped MTBMB.

Yeah a lot of deplorables are rallying behind him for reasons stated by some deplorables in this very thread. Not everyone that likes and support his music is a "deplorable" though. I still like his music but I don't agree with his behavior. If you stream or buy his music you are literally funding his career, which means his racism wasn't enough for you to defund his career. So, you are supporting the behavior on some level.

I am also a gay person. If the joke isn't funny to you, then it's not funny to you, and that's fine! But it's pretty wild to come into this thread of all threads and say that I as a gay person am not allowed to make a joke about that word.

Spotify just updated. Not really a whole lot of changes regarding the Morgan Wallen songs outside a couple of minor hits to songs like Somebody’s Problem, More Than My Hometown, and 7 Summers. Presumably, these are the ones that got the most playlist support before the incident.

I'd guess MAGA-like support and random people paying attention are helping the tracks, but I'd expect that to die down in a few days.

But it's pretty wild to come into this thread of all threads and say that I as a gay person am not allowed to make a joke about that word. On second thought, I'm pulling back on this one. The joke I made — which was intended to ease the tension around the main conversation with an irreverent take on a tangentially-related topic — could have been a great one to make among friends. But in this setting, where none of you know me (or even that I'm gay), it's only natural that other gay people here would jump to the conclusions you did about my post. I stand by my assertion that I as a gay person have license to say "f***ot" (<-- censored in this post and my previous one per automatically-enforced board policy), but I also respect that other gay people don't want to hear it or read it, especially not from a stranger who could very easily be using it abusively. Much love to everyone!

Should racists have no money, be homeless and starve to death? It’s called capitalism, Wallen provides a product people want to consume. There are millions of racists employed by thousands of businesses in America, are you complicit in racism if you support any of these businesses as well that contribute to racists’ finances?

^ To add on, there are millions of multi millionaire racist people that continue to be supported and funded, not to mention a ‘certain’ billionaire that has quite a nationwide of supporters..
