Maren Morris and Eric Church are probably the only progressive country artists who has hits right now, alongside The Chicks and Carrie Underwood What about Chris Stapleton and Kelsea Ballerini? I don't follow their personal life and politics, but I know the latter has called out Wallen and has been outspoken on the injustices women in country have to deal with.

Oh I keep forgetting Chris Stapleton has enough clout to get hits. Yeah hes one of the good ones. Didnt know about Kelsea but she seems to be good alright.

This is not comparable to Camila or Jimmy Kimmel. This happened recently. Camila was s**tposting racist s**t when she was a teen, and Kimmel did the blackface at a time when comedy somehow found it acceptable.
It doesn't make it OK but at least there has been enough time for both of them to (plausibly) grow and improve and let the racist s**t in the past.
This covid-denier, anti-masker, most likely Republican piece of crap was using the slur a few days ago and now he's "sorry."
Sorry he got caught more likely.

The way he said it so casually makes me think he does it on a regular-drinking with the boys- type of night..which would be almost every night smh. And isn't this like his 2nd fuck up(the no masks partying right before SNL cancelled, THEN, gave him a 2nd chance)?

The sad news about this is, this will all likely be forgotten in a month's time.

I just went to see the news on Facebook to see how people are reacting and no surprise to me, there are people telling black people how they should feel and people blaming the neighbor instead of holding Morgan accountable but like I said, it doesn't surprise me at all.

The focus is on how the industry is reacting, and the fact his music has been dropped from radio, plus the fact he's been removed from Spotify country playlists and Apple Music highlights, is quite positive, and quite surprising given the response to similar scandals in the past (Camila Cabello). We don't know if it's a definitive decision or temporary damage control, but it's a good step, and a much better way of holding celebrities accountable than the childish [insertartist]isoverparty. This case is particularly egregious since the clip was literally from last Sunday. And indeed, Choco is absolutely right - he's only sorry because he got caught.

^The difference with Camilla being that now is quite a different time. People will longer tolerate such things and they are willing to pressure to have those offending feel the consequences of their actions.

Reminder to anyone who thinks this response to Morgan Wallen is too rash because he "made a mistake," the Dixie Chicks had their entire careers destroyed because they dared to criticize the president. Also a more recent example of injustice is country radio refusing to play Kacey Musgraves because she spoke up against the industry, even after she won AOTY country radio still refused to play her single at the time (not to mention the country industry constantly snubbing black artists for awards and not playing their music).
These big boys like Wallen or Luke Combs do all this bulls**t and get a free pass, even barring this situation Wallen got a 2nd chance at SNL after he ignored the rules and made-out with random girls at a bar at the height of a pandemic that has killed almost 500k americans alone. He even got to make fun of the situation, like he was an idiot who didn't know what was going on despite the world being 7 months deep into this crisis at the time. Giving him a "redemption arc" was a bad idea and enables his behavior further, because now he knows he can risk the lives of people and get out unscathed. I am not shocked at this situation at all unfortunately, country music has had a racism problem for decades and they refuse to acknowledge it. Good on Maren Morris for speaking up since she's arguably one of the biggest artists in country music right now.
I know this is a huge wall of text and nobody will probably read it, but I'm just frustrated at this situation.

The Dixie Chicks had their careers ruined because they alienated their fanbase. If Rihanna were to start wearing a MAGA hat, her career would probably be ruined too.
That said, I don’t think anybody thinks that what Wallen did is acceptable.

I know this is a huge wall of text and nobody will probably read it, but I'm just frustrated at this situation. You put it perfectly. Sometimes you have to write more than usual to share your full opinions on the matter, so don't worry about it. And yes, on hindsight, it would have been a better lesson for Wallen if he hadn't been allowed to perform at SNL at all. And honestly, same applies to Dua Lipa and Megan Thee Stallion, even if they partying and travelling wasn't in such a short time span to the filming in comparison (where Wallen would put staff at risk). I'm surprised no interviewers have called them out on it yet. Indeed, artists have been boycotted by the industry for much less harmful things (remember nipplegate?). Even if I do enjoy some of his songs, he absolutely deserves this backlash, and I hope they stick to their decision.

I think it depressingly speaks that an audience that turned on the Chicks because of their politics wouldn't be that turned off my Morgan's comments. I dont think all of Nashville's audience is racist or even that its mostly...but like with any audience, the chuds seem to be the loudest minority

The ABSOLUTE TEARS from Right-Wingers across Twitter.
F*ck You!
F*ck Your Feelings!
F*ck Your White MAGA King and his fake ass apology too!
The fact that some people are blaming this on the fact that he was allegedly “drunk” also. The man said it as OPENLY and CLEARLY and COHERENTLY as possible, for everyone to hear, and didn’t give an absolute damn about the repercussions.
Also, he’s a grown, 27 year old, Man spewing racial epithets...
There’s “nothing” for him to ‘learn from’ and ‘try and understand’ so miss me with that excuse.

Oh wow the industry actually doing something for once. That's crazy.. he was literally on the cover of Billboard magazine like three weeks ago... now radio, playlists, media support etc. GONE. What is even crazier is if his neighbour hadn't video recorded anything today would've gone on as usual.. another week at #1 on Billboard, songs still flooding up Amazon / apple / spotify with ease. RIP his mainstream exposure (2019-2020), play stupid games win stupid prizes

Morgan could've kept those crocodile tears & that invalid apology. It is nice to see consumers/the music industry being outraged by his remarks & putting forth some action, however it's only a temporary fix. Until he truly shows a genuine concern with changing his life & not repeating his past actions, his redemption can be accepted.

That said, I don’t think anybody thinks that what Wallen did is acceptable. The same fanbase that did exactly what they criticized them for doing when Obama was president? No. The Dixie Chicks had their careers ruined because they are women.

This guy was probably the biggest current country star, and he killed his own career by one word. He has no one to blame but himself

So this Morgan Wallen talk has opened up a debate that I’ve been thinking out for a while now, can you seperate the person from the artist?

This isn't even his first f*ck up, he's run out of chances.

You know, after seeing so many people in the entertainment industry get away with doing horrible stuff, it's pretty surprising and refreshing seeing country radio and streaming services dropping Morgan Wallen from their playlists immediately, even if maybe only temporarily. Oh god, the Trumptards are going to rally behind him now and keep him at #1 for months. Drake, drop the album bomb NOW. Adele, save us from racist trash. You know, I'm all for sh itting on Trump supporters, but you shouldn't be using an ableist slur or variations of it to insult anyone even if they're some of the worst people out there.
