![](https://i.imgur.com/4cbYew7.jpg) Promo Singles: "Self Destruct (feat. Wuki)""Throatzilla""Troubled Paradise"
In partnership with FADER media group (and released under their independent FADER label), aspiring alt-pop star and Twitter personality Slayyyter is set to drop her first full-length LP, Troubled Paradise, on June 11, 2021. Production and writing credits include Wuki, Gupi, John Hill, Jordan Palmer, Robokid, and Slayyyter herself. Originally planned as a followup to her debut mixtape Slayyyter, recording for the album began in 2019. After months of teasing songs on Instagram live, the tracklist was finalized in Q3 2020 and a formal release date was announced in Jan 2021. The original concept for the album hinted at a rock-tinged direction reminiscent of her "old SoundCloud".
Tracklist:
01. Self Destruct 02. Venom 03. Throatzilla 04. Dog House 05. Butterflies... 06. Troubled Paradise 07. Clouds 08. Cowboys 09. Serial Killer 10. Over This! 11. Villain 12. Letters
edit: Ayesha Nicole Smith will not be involved in the project

Leaked already, lol.
The only single I cared for was “Troubled Paradise”, but the singles lead me to believe this would be dripping with experimental sounds on the periphery of breaking out... but it’s not. The biggest problem with this album is that it’s just a sampler of songs that other artists have alread done, but with nothing of note added. The exceptions to this are the title track, “Over This!”, and, lol, the Butterflies interlude. If you could call it that? Most of these tracks are barely hitting the two minute mark, and even though the song is clearly unfinished it’s definitely a standout.
I wish the label would scrap most of this and use the premature leak as an opportunity to put her back in the studio (and mix the album properly), but it’ll probably get the Grimes treatment and just see a handful of tracks slightly tweaked. As it is, this lacks the innovation of her mixtape, even if I didn’t care for most of that.

I have no idea who this woman is but I am living for Clouds and the title track. She’s an “internet” artist who went viral when her song “Mine” was used in a Twitter meme, but she’s like one tier below Charli XCX on the relevance list. Her mixtape Slayyyter got a good bit of critical acclaim as well, but she ditched most of those sounds for this record.

This is definitely on my list, I'll get around to it this weekend. Like five million albums came out today, lol. Music is borderline feeling like a burden at the moment.

It’s fine. The Charli gays will get something out of it, but I don’t love it. It’s much, MUCH better than her debut though. Not even close.
What irritates me to no end is that two versions of this album leaked, each with its own mix different than the final, but somehow “My Body”– one of my favorite tracks of the year, deadass– got progressively worse as they kept tweaking it. The changes to the second verse and buildup shouldn’t take away from it as much as they do since they’re minor, but just noticeable enough. I’m genuinely wondering what they were thinking b/c I don’t know anyone who heard the demo and likes these changes.
Anyway, solid 7/10? She’s still an artist that has potential, I just need her to capitalize on it.
Edit: second run through and definitely wasn’t paying enough attention. “Erotic Electronic” and “Purr” are fucking gold. Hmmm this may need to cook

This is cute! And it's funny you bring up Charli Koochie, because I kinda have the same issue with this album that I had with Crash. Both very solid pop albums on their face, but I feel like the edges have been sanded off a little too much. Some of the more straight-forward stuff on here could be on Diamonds & Dancefloors. And Lord knows I give Ava Max sh*t for being basic af, but pulling fantastic melodies and hooks out of your ass is no easy feat, otherwise everyone would be doing it. So I'm not gonna knock anyone fully for making a good pop song. Thankfully we do get those harder moments like "EE" and "Purr," I just wish there were a few more of them in the mix.

So true besties but I actually popped back in here to say I may have lied on this slightly. I also thought Crash was Charli’s first listenable album in years. “Dramatic” kinda came out of nowhere– it comes dangerously close to interpolating Ashley Simpson’s “La La” in the verses. Knowing her, I’m pretty sure that’s intentional, but that came at me sideways when it finally clicked. I finally saw the vision for “My Body”s current iteration too. It lacks the grit the demo did, but it is legitimately too good of a song to be bad in any context. Then there’s “I Love Hollywood!” and… why did I sleep on this? It’s a fucking masterpiece. In like 24 hours it catapulted to my favorite. I really need her third effort to take this kind of risk but keep the same energy as “My Body.” She’s so close.
