If any song was going to miss the top ten, I’m glad to see that it was “Heartbreak Song”. This started out in my bottom five and while it may have grown on me a bit over the course of revisiting it, it’s still much too poppy for my taste.

Awww, Heartbreak Song is amazing. The thing I remember the most about it, is that when it was released, I was reading comments in her youtube video page, and someone said that it wasn't country at all, and some girl comes in and says "Heartbreak Song is extremely country" lol Regardless, it is a great song!

I dislike "Sister" the more I hear it so I'm glad it missed the Top 10, probably should have put it in last place

Kicking off the top 10, we lose the first song from Mickey's second EP. "Somebody Else Will" is the song that I tend to forget about from the EP, so I'm okay seeing it go first. I do enjoy it quite a bit when listening to it, so I am not surprised to see it get a lot of love!

"Salt" has a really interesting latin flavoring to it, which I thought would make it a bit more polarizing than it ended up being. It did have mutlpie top 5 ranks and a couple of bottom 5 ranks, but ultimately most people ended up putting this in their top 15, making it our most consistent top 10 contender up to this point!
I have never been too big on this one, although it did manage to grow on me a bit for this rankdown. But if there are any songs from her latest EP that deserve to be left off of her new album when it comes out, I'd give the ax to this one and "Rosé".

I went into this thinking "Bridges" had potential to be a top 5 contender, so I'm a little surprised by the way it performed here. It was a solid top 10 contender, but pretty much settled in at #8 early on. This song has such an infectious melody, it was love at first listen for me!
You will notice from the trajectory graphs that we haven't really seen a lot of top 10 contenders up until the last couple reveals, and that is because the top 10 pretty much had our top 10 on lockdown for the whole rankdown. From this point forward, every song had a very solid grasp on the positions that they ended up finishing in.

at our biggest Carrie Stan putting "Pretty Little Mustang" in last place when it is the one song on this playlist that sounds like it could have been stolen directly from Carrie's catalog.

"Pretty Little Mustang" was a super easy #1 for me, lol. This song just has such an infectious summer energy to it that reminds me of driving around with the windows down. It also just has a classic quality to it that supersedes Mickey herself, as it feels like a classic uptempo that could have been a huge hit for anyone from Carrie Underwood to Reba McEntire to Sara Evans to Martina McBride to Kelly Clarkson. There's just something so universal about it that I can't help but love!
If you hate it, I would recommend therapy ;)

"Why Baby Why" and "Pretty Little Mustang" spent a lot of time fighting with each other to see which one would get a chance to sneak into the top 5 and which one would just barely miss out..... But then one song that wasn't as strong of a top 5 contender ended up sneaking past them with a big surge at the end and keeping them both out of the top 5 fearlessarrow told me when he submitted his list that this reminded him a lot of Martina, and I'm glad somebody else thought that because I completely agree! Out of all of Mickey's songs, "Why Baby Why" sounds the most like it could have just as easily been a Martina song. I could see the repetition of the chorus being a little annoying for people, but it doesn't change the fact that this song has an incredible vocal arrangement, and frankly deserves this top 10 placement.

Soooooo apparently "Heaven Down Here" must have grown on people, because when it came out last year the overall sentiment was "it's not nearly as great as she is capable of, but it's acceptable I guess" There is absolutely NO reason for this song to be in the top 5 of her entire career.... Aside from Single Bias, I guess.

Gotta be honest, I don't really get the appeal of "Nice Things". The whole "You can't have nice things" line is so ingrained in meme culture that I literally cannot take it seriously in song form. It works for Taylor's song, because it seems to play into the fact that the line comes from meme culture. But Mickey's is trying to be a legit song! And on top of that, the production is basically just like everything on her acoustic EP.......So if we stan for this one so much, why did all those songs go out right around the top 15??! The melody of something like "Safe" and "Forever Love" is WAY more engaging than this one, and the vocals are way more impressive.
Suffice it to say, this one coming out ahead of literally everything in her entire career except for the obvious top 3 is baffling to me. It's good, and I would never skip it! But it got waaaaaay more extreme love than it deserved.

I can't help but think of Josh Turner's "Long Black Train" when I listen to "Nice Things" because of the descending notes at the end of the chorus... So I wasn't the only one who thought "Why Baby Why" was reminiscent of Martina! Pulse's resident Martina stan bboat11 agreeing must mean it's right! lol

Sorry for the delay between 4 and 3. I got distracted! Lol "Better Than You Left Me" is Mickey's one "hit" so far, peaking at #34 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart back in 2015. Pulse has always loved this one, and been outraged that it flopped after having such a strong start, so I had no doubt that it was going to finish in the top 3 here. I even thought it might have a chance of winning, but other than contending for #2 briefly, it settled in comfortably at #3 behind her two big "moments" from 2020, "What Are You Gonna Tell Her" and "Black Like Me". This song has such a strong vocal, and I love how the arrangement is actually more country than much of her music has been since then! The steel guitar is particularly beautiful
