Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album snares a sixth total week, all in a row, at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart (dated Feb. 27), capturing the most weeks atop the list for a male artist’s album since Drake’s Views logged 13 nonconsecutive weeks in the lead in 2016 (May 21-Oct. 8, 2016-dated charts).

Dangerous earned 93,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 18 (down 38%), according to MRC Data.

Dangerous bowed atop the list five weeks ago, on the chart dated Jan. 23. Only three albums have spent at least six weeks at No. 1 in the last five years: Dangerous, Taylor Swift’s Folklore (eight nonconsecutive weeks, 2020) and Drake’s Views (13).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Feb. 27, 2021-dated chart (where Dangerous is No. 1 for a sixth week) will be posted in full on Billboard's website on Feb. 23. Of Dangerous’ 93,000 equivalent album units earned in the tracking week ending Feb. 18, SEA units comprise 81,000 (down 24%, equaling 112.11 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs), album sales comprise 10,000 (down 74%) and TEA units comprise 2,000 (down 64%).

Among albums that have charted on both Top Country Albums and the Billboard 200 (like Dangerous), the last to earn six total weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 was Swift’s Red, with seven nonconsecutive weeks atop the list in 2012-13.

Dangerous is the first country album by a man with six total weeks at No. 1 since Garth Brooks’ The Hits ruled for eight nonconsecutive weeks in 1995, and the first non-best-of country album by a man with six total weeks at No. 1 since Brooks’ The Chase net seven total weeks at No. 1 in 1992.

Dangerous is also the first country album to spend its first six weeks at No. 1 since The Chase, which ruled the list in its first six weeks. The Chase debuted at No. 1, spent six weeks in charge (Oct. 10-Nov. 14, 1992), then slipped from the top slot for two weeks, returning for one more week at No. 1 (Nov. 28, 1992).

At No. 2 on the Billboard 200, The Weeknd’s After Hours surges 37-2 with 42,000 equivalent album units earned (up 183%). It’s the first of two albums in the top 10 by The Weeknd, as his best-of package The Highlights dips 2-8 in its second week with 31,000 units (down 65%).

The two albums share a pair of songs, “Blinding Lights” and “Save Your Tears.” On the latest chart, the TEA and SEA units for both songs contribute to After Hours, as a song’s activity is assigned to the artist’s album with the most sales in a week. (After Hours sold 6,000 copies in the latest tracking week, while The Highlights sold 4,000.) A week ago, the TEA and SEA for both songs was directed to The Highlights (which in that frame outsold After Hours 10,000 to 6,000). In turn, with the songs’ activity reverting back to After Hours, the album vaults from 37-2.

With After Hours’ rise to No. 2, it lands its highest rank since the May 2, 2020-dated chart, when it fell to the runner-up spot after spending its first four weeks at No. 1.

Lil Durk’s The Voice climbs 5-3 on the Billboard 200 with 40,000 equivalent album units earned (down 20%), while

Pop Smoke’s former No. 1 Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon rises 6-4 with 38,000 units (down 8%) and

Pooh Shiesty’s Shiesty Season falls 4-5 in its second week with 37,000 units (down 40%).

Taylor Swift’s former No. 1 Evermore bumps back into the top 10 with an 11-6 rise (33,000 equivalent album units earned; up 16%). Of that sum, 12,000 are in album sales -- up 70%. The album had a robust sales bump thanks to the release of the cassette edition of the album, as well as buzz and promotion generated by Swift’s Feb. 10 announcement that she would be re-recording her chart-topping 2008 Fearless album.

Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia surges back into the top 10 for the first time in 10 months, as the album jumps 21-7 with 32,000 equivalent album units earned (up 58%). Its big gain is owed to the album’s deluxe reissue on Feb. 12 with six additional songs, including its new radio hit “We’re Good.” The cut debuted at No. 31 on the most recently published Pop Airplay chart (dated Feb. 20). Among the other newly added songs are two earlier Pop Airplay hits that didn’t previously have a home on a Dua Lipa album: “Un Dia (One Day),” with J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Tainy, and her featured turn on Miley Cyrus’ “Prisoner.”

Future Nostalgia debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the April 11, 2020-dated chart, and has now spent a total of four weeks in the top 10.

Rounding out the rest of the top 10 on the latest Billboard 200:

Ariana Grande’s Positions (7-9 with 30,000 equivalent album units earned; down 7%) and

I have a CD player that has a cassette player, though I don't think it plays tapes well. A standalone cassette player/radio doesn't work in playing any longer.

Ten years ago, Adele released her sophomore album in the United States, and proceeded to take over the pop world.

With 21, Adele’s follow-up to her 2008 debut 19, the British artist transformed from an acclaimed singer-songwriter with a best new artist Grammy win into a record-smashing superstar with multiple No. 1 hits. Released on Feb. 22, 2011 in the United States (after being released on Jan. 24 in her native U.K.), 21 represented an enormous critical and commercial hit for Adele, who channeled the heartbreak of her 21st year into 11 songs of soulful pop, including the No. 1 hits “Rolling In The Deep” and “Someone Like You.”



One decade removed from its release, the numbers that capture 21’s success remain staggering. Here are 10 of the figures that showcase the cultural juggernaut of Adele’s second album following its U.S. release:

16.21 million: The equivalent album units in the U.S. that 21 has earned through Feb. 18, according to MRC Data. Of that sum, 12.08 million are in album sales.

2.63 billion: The number of U.S. on-demand streams that the album’s 11 songs have earned to date. Yup, that’s “billion” with a B!

26.16 million: The number of U.S. downloads sold of 21’s songs.

4.05 million: The number of plays that 21’s songs have earned to date on U.S. radio.

2: The number of years, 2011 and 2012, in which 21 was the top-selling album in the United States. The album was also the year-end No. 1 Billboard 200 album in both years -- making it the first album since Michael Jackson's Thriller in 1983-84 to finish as the No. 1 album on the year-end chart in consecutive years.

3: The number of Hot 100 No. 1 singles on the album: “Rolling In The Deep,” “Someone Like You” and “Set Fire To The Rain.” ("Rumour Has It," the album's fourth U.S. single, peaked at No. 16.)


14: Total number of weeks that those songs sat atop the Hot 100 chart ("Rolling In the Deep" was No. 1 for seven weeks; "Someone Like You" was No. 1 for five weeks; and “Set Fire to the Rain" was No. 1 for two weeks).

6: The number of Grammy Awards that Adele won for the album in 2012: album of the year and best pop vocal album for 21; record of the year, song of the year and best short form music video for “Rolling in the Deep”; and best pop solo performance for “Someone Like You.” In addition, Paul Epworth, who produced “Rolling in the Deep,” won the producer of the year, non-classical trophy. Adele won in every category in which she was nominated in 2012.

24: The number of weeks that 21 has spent at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It’s tied for the sixth-most weeks at No. 1 among all albums, and also has the most weeks at No. 1 among albums by women. Only the West Side Story soundtrack (54 weeks at No. 1), Michael Jackson’s Thriller (37 weeks), Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours (31 weeks), the South Pacific soundtrack (31 weeks) and Harry Belafonte’s Calypso (31 weeks) have spent more weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, which began publishing on a regular weekly basis in 1956. Adele’s 21 is tied with Prince and the Revolution’s Purple Rain and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack with 24 weeks in the top spot.

1: The number of albums released this century that have spent 20 or more weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart -- it’s only Adele’s 21. Whitney Houston’s The Bodyguard soundtrack was the last album to do so prior to 21, spending 20 weeks at No. 1 upon its 1992 release.

The Pretty Reckless rules Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart (dated Feb. 27) as the rock band’s new studio effort Death by Rock and Roll debuts at No. 1. It’s the third top 10 and first No. 1 for the act on the chart. The album starts with 16,000 copies sold in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 18, according to MRC Data.

Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now MRC Data. Pure album sales were the measurement solely utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.

Of Death by Rock and Roll’s first-week sales of 16,000 across all formats (CD, vinyl LP, cassette, digital download, etc.), 5,300 were sold via vinyl LP -- enabling the set’s No. 5 debut on the Vinyl Albums chart. The set was available in multiple color variants exclusive to the band’s official webstore, independent music stores and FYE.


The Pretty Reckless previously logged top 10s on Top Album Sales with Who You Selling For (No. 8, 2016) and Going to Hell (No. 5, 2014).

Death by Rock and Roll also enters an array of other album charts, including the Billboard 200 (No. 28), Top Rock Albums (No. 3), Hard Rock Albums (No. 2), Tastemaker Albums (No. 3) and Independent Albums (No. 5).

The album’s title track reached No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in August of 2020, marking the fifth leader for the band. The set’s latest radio single, “And So It Went,” featuring Tom Morello, climbs 9-8 (a new peak) on the most recently published chart (dated Feb. 27).

Back on the new Top Album Sales chart, Foo Fighters’ Medicine at Midnight falls 1-2 in its second week (15,000 sold; down 77%), while Taylor Swift’s former No. 1 Evermore rises 6-3 (12,000; up 70%). The latter had a robust sales bump thanks to the release of the cassette edition of the album (which sold 2,300), as well as buzz and promotion generated by Swift’s Feb. 10 announcement that she would be re-recording her chart-topping 2008 Fearless album.

Morgan Wallen’s former leader Dangerous: The Double Album dips 2-4 (10,000 sold; down 74%) while country duo Florida Georgia Line climbs in at No. 5 with its latest studio set, Life Rolls On (just over 8,000). Swift’s chart-topping Folklore bumps 12-6 (8,000 sold; up 42%).

Vocal group Pentatonix captures its 12th top 10, as the act’s new album The Lucky Ones debuts at No. 7 (6,000). Pentatonix has tallied at least one new top 10 album yearly since 2012.

A pair of former No. 1s are next on the chart, as The Weeknd’s After Hours is steady at No. 8 (6,000 sold; down 8%) and Harry Styles’ Fine Line is also a non-mover at No. 9 (a little over 5,000; down 9%). Tomorrow X Together’s new Still Dreaming rounds out the top 10, as it bows at No. 10 with 5,000 sold, marking the South Korean act’s second top 10.

Miley's album falls 44 positions mainly due to the fact "Prisoner", a song where Dua Lipa is merely a featured artist, now counts to her album SPS lol. 

Another case where this "streams of songs go to the best-selling album" rule is a complete flub, and counting towards the original studio album makes logical sense.

The way that album impacted the charts points to a 21st "Thriller" but it was also done when sales were starting to slouch, which even more impressive.

Hmm, I’ll have to see where I read it. I think it may have been on Paul Grein’s blog long ago. I do remember the comparison was to Usher’s “Confessions” though.

I see that Adele logged 45 weeks of at least 100,000 copies. She also sold a whopping 729,000 copies after the Grammy Awards... an album in its 52nd week.

Pentatonix really took a drop off from their last original album. Their self-titled album hit #1 and had 98,000 units and sold 88,000 pure, even beating out Demi Lovato.

Now they fail to reach the Top 100 and sell 6,000. With the 'At Home' EP failing to chart at all as well.

'Top Pop: Vol 1' in 2018 hit #10, and sold 30,000 pure (with 34,000 units), so that was quite the quick loss in sales.

I don’t think so. Their highest selling album(s) in the US haven’t surpassed 14 million albums yet, so it’s hard to believe they had an album that went a year straight of 250k sales per week.
Maybe you meant just them as a band, combining all of their albums every week?
