People just use Spotify as a main indicator because their numbers are the most easily accessible. That’s all. Yeah, he’s destabilizing there (which doesn’t mean much because he’s still well ahead of everyone), but that’s never been his stronghold. f**k u for not publishing ur numbers AM I agree with this. And we all know the only reason why Apple Music doesn’t release its streaming numbers is because they don’t want the public to see that it gets less streams than Spotify. Which is a shame because it would make everything more transparent. As for Drake, I feel like these 3 new songs are headed in the direction off “Toosie Slide.” A number one debut (for at least “What’s next”), but then they all fall off gradually. One of them could certainly become a “Laugh Now, Cry Later” which was in the top 10 for a long while.

I remember using spotify and deezer until 2016, when apple music had just starting to blow up, and i’ve been with it ever sense. I do still got spotify but use it way less because apple has the ‘all inclusive’. You could add your own music at ease via itunes and also watch music videos. And not to mention the exclusives, the biggest one of course being Drake’s Views which probably pulled in 80% of the hip hop audience on apple music right now. I noticed that exclusives are completely gone, and since like 2018 artists just release their music on all platforms from day one. I guess exclusives aren’t as effective anymore, but one can just remember the apple music vs tidal war of exclusives. Wait you can watch music videos on Apple Music, as part of the monthly subscription plan?

I’m surprised at Lil Durk’s AM domination. 54 current songs on the charts on Kworb, but not even comparable to Drake’s 72. Lil Baby is at 50 so that’s not surprising as well. Besides those 3, there really isn’t anyone that comes close to charting that many songs. Makes me think about the future of these artists to be a very long one.

The battle is on between Bruno and Cardi for #1 on the 3/27 chart. That would be the 26th different #1 in Blinding Lights charting run, provided What's Next is #1 on the 3/20 chart. (It would be awesome if Bruno and Cardi surprised us and performed Finesse at the Grammys.)

4th straight day of the tracks off Scary Hours 2 and Leave the Door Open losing streams on Spotify US. Hold On also lost streams but it's down to 707K so yeah. It'll be lucky to debut in the Hot 100 top 40 at this rate.
I wonder if/when, they'll finally gain some streams.
Audio streaming is so down bad currently that if Drake hadn't released new music on Friday, the #1 song on Spotify US right now would be Leave the Door Open with 1,095,834 streams and it's been out for less than a week. Just terrible.

Enigma. there are really no positives to how low audio streaming in the US is right now. Half the songs in the top 10 of Spotify US have less than 1M streams and the #1 song has less than 1.6M streams (and it's numbers are only that high because it's a new song). The new songs are still yet to gain any streams from the previous day and the older, more stable songs are barely gaining any streams on the days they manage to gain anything at all. That's bad any way you look at it.

Are you talking about when drivers license peaked with over 6M streams on Spotify US less than a week after it's release only to spend the next 4 weeks losing streams drastically till it stabilized at 1.3-1.5M daily streams? drivers license was released less than 9 weeks ago and it's already down to 1M daily streams. Up was released less than 5 weeks ago and I doubt it's ever surpassed 1.2M streams. It's down to 900K daily streams right now. The "biggest" songs in the US right now pulling very low streams. I don't know how you don't see that.

But Telepatía for instance has been rising for a few weeks now. I see the evolution of streaming is going to more and more to the way digital sales evolved - songs start high and gradually decline from there unless there is an extra promo boost or sth from somewhere (TikTok). I don't see why artists should stop releasing albums because of that. Also, albums are always a bit frontloaded in streaming and whatever takes off will do so.
The only thing that is missing is that people don't travel to work and back home as much as they used to which I think is currently showing in the numbers. At home, people might rather play games and watch movies and tv series than listen to music.

Is streaming this bad cause streaming is becoming more spread out? Maybe this is the new norm going forward where streaming will continue to grow, but it will be less concentrated around big songs.

I obviously follow Lady Gaga closely, and her older songs have had a great boost recently (The Fame is #135 on album chart without any effort from Gaga or her label), so I think that is a factor too.

That data, while impressive, is misleading and doesn't paint the whole picture. If newer songs released from 2020-now are pulling record-low streams upon arrival, streaming isn't growing.
Catalog songs being streamed more and newer songs songs being streamed way less will cancel each other out. At best, streaming in the US has peaked/stopped growing but to make a case that streaming is growing when we have proof that it isn't, doesn't make sense.
I know Nielsen/RIAA/Alpha Data are determined to convince themselves that streaming is still growing and they'll use whatever methodology they need to use to put that information out there in their year-end reports but when streaming peaks in 2021 are matching streaming peaks from 5 years ago, that doesn't indicate growth in any regard. I don't need to see any breakdowns to know that.

iamsorare that's usually how it goes. There's only so many spins to go around so when new songs get released that make use of a radio deal/are getting massively pushed, they'll steal some spins/audience impressions from other songs to enable them to rise as quickly as they do. At least, I believe that's the way it works. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

With how fast Leave the Door Open is zooming up on radio, I hope it doesn't end up being front-loaded and actually serves some longevity because every song that will spend some time in the top 10 will need radio long-term.
