I haven't seen anyone talk about The Business this week, it's at 15 on iTunes thanks to a 69 cent discount.

Yeah about that. All love for Drake and Blinding Lights breaking these huge records cuz they are never going to get the same from certain award show[(COUGH, COUGH) which are basically gold standard in music], no matter their craft. Blinding lights better get that Billboard All Time number 1 single and many more weeks in top 10 hot 100. Plz Excuse me, I'm still mad, lol.

Especially for somebody like Tiesto who has been a part of EDM for such a long time (he's 52 now). Maybe I'm just saying this because Jackie Chan got robbed from being a hit in 2018, that song is amazing.

Considering Drake has no songs in global top ten on Spotify, I'd say it has SOMETHING to do with his recent output (that has clearly been US/Canada centric even more than usual in terms of popularity). (What's Next was #32 on weekly chart in my country) I don’t think it’s as much to do with Drake’s star power as much as the songs are definitely driven more towards a US audience, they don’t feature artists that tend to do well in a global market and the beats are nothing like the global hip hop hits. The closest one that sounds like possibly a global hit is Lemon Pepper Freestyle, which for obvious reasons is not going to be a hit.

The more and more I see Dynamite doing well in sales the more I'm convinced it'll get 60 weeks. Sure it could but it's not exactly an accomplishment. Mass buying is literally just cheating the charts. These fans are literally buying 4 copies per card, trashing all of those and then re-buying with another card, or however else they are buying. At least blinding lights' success on the charts is more organic and real.

A. Covid B. The Weeknd C. Others who got just as robbed D. The fact that there was sm talk going on and not enough performances to drown out the extensive bore, cringe and even the painful commercials. E. BTS

BTS I think it's more of CBS not being able to adapt to the times and attract a Gen-Z audience. They seem to be stuck in the 80s and 90s. The Super Bowl had Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and The Weeknd and the ratings still plummeted. If CBS cannot get decent ratings for March Madness, the network is in real serious trouble. CBS needs a total makeover and get rid of some old dinosaurs like Jim Nantz.

TV ratings are falling every year.
Golden Globes weren't CBS and those plummeted too.

Could Levitating return to the Top 10? It's getting a big sales boost and it still has radio to spare, so I think it'll be back.

I think I read that 13 million people streamed it. There's also social media engagement. People don't consume these things the same way anymore, and I don't think TV ratings are a great measure.

yeah TV ratings are like the "iTunes sales" of visual media consumption lol. if you asked me a month ago I could tell you the ratings would "hit a historic low." they do every year.

^Even the Superbowl managed its lowest TV ratings this year since 2007. It was also available via streaming.

I think we could easily tell which televised event gets highly benefited and maybe dependent on get togethers and parties in order to attract viewership. The event itself also has to play out as traditional or else its basically “slideshows and recorded live performances” like some of the few past events in the past year. In the superbowl’s case however, there was none of that but there was also not a huge crowd nor a close live one for the halftime performance which also sells for quite a few people. We could easily tell that people aren’t really a fan of these watchmojo styled award shows, and on top of the controversial topics that certain events witness, these factors are what are considered when watching a televised event.

It's pretty obvious that nobody watched the Grammys or Golden Globes (or, coming up, the Oscars) because there's not a lot of interest in watching a celebration of a year that was completely malaise and had almost no memorable cultural events. To most people, it's like the entertainment world essentially came to a halt in 2020, and in fact that's still the way it seems. Until the pandemic is over and enough of a memory for people to move on, the monoculture is essentially dead. People will just keep indulging in old shows, music, and movies to remind themselves of better times.
