I wished Top 40 played more "pop" music, but who are these rappers you are speaking of? Pick any one. Top 40 radio shouldn't only play POP records. If the biggest songs on the charts are rap songs good enough to reach the top 10 on Urban/Rhythmic radio, they should also do well on Pop radio but that isn't the reality. When I tune in a pop station, it's because I want to hear light pop songs with catchy hooks and nice melodies. If I want to hear trap music, I switch to an urban radio station.

There are rap songs that fits pop radio very well, like Up and What You Know Bout Love.
And then for instance Put Your Records On shouldn't be played anywhere, but still somehow pop decided to make it happen hehe

Rap and trap perfectly fill in the catchy hooks and nice melodies criteria, though.
And even the argument against explicit music on radio makes no sense anymore when songs like "thank u, next", "Lonely", "drivers license", and "34+35" were huge airplay smashes. The censoring will be bad and awkward, but that's just how radio works, really.

Top 40 in theory should be crossovers and new music. However the executives have decided it should replica the HAC & AC playlists with the same 10 songs all year from Post Malone, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, and Harry Styles because they are adored by soccer moms.
Also don't even get me started on the borderline racism with HAC and rap music lol. Going as far to even completely editing out rap verses in Crazy In Love/Dark Horse/Havana/etc. As if simply hearing a 20-second feature would *disgust* listeners and be too much for them to handle.

If their target demographic is soccer moms, wouldnβt that make sense tho?

If their target demographic is soccer moms, wouldnβt that make sense tho? Top 40's demo is primarily 18-35 year old women. Not sure where that demo meets the definition of soccer mom. Regardless, Top 40 has been on the decline for years now. I'm sure they'll chalk it up to streaming rather than the fact they play the same 7 songs on power-rotation for 8 months straight.

Is this even legal?? lol!!!!! Nas is definitely bringing some action next week. Can't wait. I mean, Cash App has been doing this for a while, but typically with smaller artists or people not in the music industry. It typically helps Cash App more than anyone else.

top 40 should play whatever is popular at the time . the best way to do that without turning off too many people is to play certain songs during the day that might appeal to an older audience and at night play more rap or music that appeals to a younger audience . alot of stations most likely already do that.

If you want organic successes, you donβt have a ton of them - telepatΓa, drivers license, streets, heartbreak anniversary, save your tears, good days, you broke me first

Pop songs usually struggle on streaming so i'm glad Pop radio is playing them more and giving them a chance on the charts.

I understand your point of view with the context, but I don't think it's valid.

Sheesh, I right away knew pulse would come out with all guns blazing. Even I mad at him for hyping a single for 8 months but we could just let he be himself. He knows the social media marketing in and out and definitely much more than any current "artist's team". More importantly in a time where The Superstars doing super weird s**t from begging to literally rigging the charts and sales.

What are soccer moms if not mothers of school-aged kids? People keep referencing soccer moms in here as an insult to musical tastes in relation to radio but does anyone really give much thought to who is listening to radio and how?

Maybe this is really just about Drake not doing well on Pop Radio?

^ itβs...just a hashtag? Heβs not forcing them to presave or buy the song, itβs just promo? Yeesh Yeah, no kidding. Calling promotional tactics gimmicks is far fetched at best. Some promo ideas work and some donβt but if the goal is getting a song out there in front of people, why is that a bad thing?

OF COURSE the responses I'm getting are "but there are 3 black artists in the top 10 of pop radio! How does that mean black artists are being blocked on pop radio?!" Typical. I even mentioned that in a post so many of you conveniently skipped over, lol.
I forget that some of you simply aren't open-minded enough to have some conversations. Forget I said anything. Pop radio is 100% fair with the artists they push on their format and those they don't ^__^

^ itβs...just a hashtag? Heβs not forcing them to presave or buy the song, itβs just promo? Yeesh I never said he couldn't market or promote his music but using money as a way to entice fans/the general public to show support will always come off as tacky to me. I felt the same way when Cardi B/Megan did the whole money giveaway thing with WAP and when Ariana Grande/Justin Bieber tried to act like they were doing anyone other than themselves a favor with their "charity single," Stuck With U. Acts like that aren't nearly as generous/selfless as one would think.
