Stats for #14:
Tied with our #13 song, this was a solid top 15 contender and looked all but destined to finish in the top 10 until...guess who came along?! We have a rare trio of perfect rankings along with two top 10 losses. One participant will FINALLY lose their #97.

15. “Help Me Hold On” - Travis Tritt Welp. Honestly, I was expecting this to narrowly miss the top five, but alas...it wasn't meant to be. Had a great run nonetheless. :'(

"Dumas Walker" was released by The Kentucky Headhunters in January 1990 as the second single from their 1989 debut album Pickin' on Nashville. It reached number 15 on Country charts and was written by the band's five members at the time. At first, the record label did not want to include the song on the Kentucky Headhunters' album because they believed it was too regional. However, the Headhunters pushed for the song to be on the album because of the reaction it received during live shows. If there was any song from 1990 that I had no idea how it would do, it was this one. I figured it would either do really well or not well at all, and much to my surprise it was the latter. This got a head start inside the top 30 and it wouldn't be long before it found itself in the top 10 as it picked back-to-back rankings there from ClevelandRox and kw9461. It would settle back some thereafter but still remained a solid top 15 contender during the middle of its run. As additional support continued to come in, this all but looked like it would land inside the top 10 only to have taylor pull the rug out from under it with a bottom 10 ranking. In fact, it was only taylor and 🌺CountryLineDancer who put this outside of their top 40!

Stats for #13:
Leaving next is this artist's final song as their two previous songs exited earlier. This mostly hovered in and around the top 30 until it was able to find its way inside the top 15 for the first time towards the end. One participant loses a top 5 while another departs with their #2 song. No one loses a bottom 10 and only three participants put this outside of their top half.

"Nobody's Home" was released by Clint Black in October 1989 as the third single from his debut album Killin' Time. The song was his third consecutive number-one hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. It spent three consecutive weeks at the top of the Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart beginning on the week of January 20, 1990, and went on to be named the No. 1 Billboard Country song of 1990. This is the final song of Clint's to exit the rankdown. While this started off just inside the top half, it quickly found its way into the top 30 where it would mostly remain for the rest of the rankdown. It's earliest support was a top 15 from kw9461 as well as a top 20 from Cody Wants Out.... Otherwise, much of the rankings were somewhere within the top 30 and it was only towards the last quarter that it would find a pair of top 5s from LBTrocks as well as #2 from gardyfan. That jolted this into the top 15 for the first time with only bboat11 giving this a minor hiccup. A final top 20 from taylor was all that this needed to send it back into the top 15.

Will it be Alan Jackson or Shenandoah who find themselves with two songs in the top 10?! Find out tomorrow!

"Help Me Hold On" should have been Top 10!!! "Dumas Walker" is a great, fun song that I'm happy made the Top 15 but some of those low rankings are disappointing

While not always the case, I have to agree that the males output was vastly better than that of their counterparts in 1990.

I'm actually starting to think that Alan Jackson might be able to pull off having both of his songs in the top ten. On the other hand, I'm astonished at both of Shenandoah's mega-hits still being in at this point. Regardless of what happens, the staying power for both of them is mind-blowing imo.

I'm hoping it is Alan Jackson that misses the Top 10 and not Shenandoah because I prefer both Shenandoah songs a lot more over both Alan songs personally. I'm thinking it'll likely be either "Wanted" or "Two Dozen Roses" that misses. As "Two Dozen Roses" is my personal highest song of the 4 I am hoping it is one of the ones to make it to the top 10

"Help Me Hold On" missing the top 10 is super painful to me... If Travis had to miss the top 10 with something, I would have vastly preferred it to be "I'm Gonna Be Somebody". They're both amazing, but HMHO is next-level. The melody flows perfectly from verses to chorus, and the echoey production is honestly done better here than I have ever heard it done in any song before. This is also a standout from Travis' career from a vocal performance standpoint. "Dumas Walker" is one that I discovered back during Cody Wants Out...'s group rankdown, and I fell in love with it immediately! There's just something so catchy about the delivery of the chorus. I honestly had no idea what to expect from it here, so to see it so close to the top 10 is exciting! To see it IN the top 10 if not for the final list, well that is more than I ever dreamed of hoping for!! "Nobody's Home" is one I probably just need to listen to more, along with most of Clint's career. I do like his voice, and I LOVE a few of his songs, but for the most part almost all of his songs just strike me as very average on first listen. This one was no exception.

Regarding the lack of female artists...I would agree that in general the female output is not as collectively strong this year as it is later in this decade. Let's be real, Kathy Mattea, KT Oslin, Lorrie Morgan, The Judds, early Patty Loveless, etc. as a collective group do not hit NEARLY as consistently and as hard as Shania Twain, Martina McBride, Jo Dee Messina, Terri Clark, Faith Hill, and Sara Evans as a collective group.
That being said, there are certainly still several stand-out female performances this year, including all three songs that are still in, as well as a few that probably deserved to still be in.

I think this is the first time I've heard people say that the 1990s wasn't a good time period for women since that's usually deemed the defining decade for women in country music. It goes without saying that I 100% disagree with that and think the women > men in the 1990s by far.

I've been without internet over the last week, so coming back to see some disappointing losses. The MCC songs, "Walk On", "If Tomorrow Never Comes", "Friends In Low Places" and "My Arms Stay Open All Night" deserve so much better. All should have been top 10, imo. I think I only have three of my top 10 left, but at least my top 2 is in tact (for now ) My remaining bottom 10 can leave any time now!

Stats for #12:
Leaving two spots shy of the top 10 is a song that actually never exited the top 20. In fact, two of the first three rankings were both top 10s which in turn launched this into the top 3. It eventually would settle back outside of the top 10 and into the top 15. Two participants put this just outside of their top half while another placed this down in their bottom 10.
