Seems like Montero gained a bunch of streams following Lil Nas X's claims of the song being removed but it lost all those streams the following day.

Also, love to see that J Balvin/Khalid duet not doing so well. Khalid doesn't have any kind of star power in him (saw him live before covid and almost fell asleep) I haven't been paying attention to his stage presence or anything, but it's been very weird for me how his chart performance fell off a cliff after "Talk" which is arguably his biggest win to date. It seemed like he was on track to be a much bigger deal. I don't think he has any fanbase, so he comes and goes depending on the song and the lead artist/feature. But, I find very interesting that the two albums, Divide and American Teen, were released on the same day and still very close to each other on BB200. Who is the bigger star, Ed Sheeran or Khalid?

I'm booked pretty solid today, so my weekly callouts report most likely won't be coming until this evening. Hope y'all are okay with waiting. Something more important than Pulse and Charts!!!????

Khalid is like Charlie Puth/Alessia Cara. Relevant for three years or so with a few big songs, then a huge drop in popularity. I guess he's more relevant than current Charlie and Alessia though and I still see him having another hit

I'm not the biggest Khalid fan but how can you say he doesn't have any fanbase? The guy has 6 songs with over 1B streams on Spotify. His 2 albums have never left the Billboard 200 since they debuted (American Teen has charted for 214 weeks and Free Spirit has charted for 105 weeks). American Teen is 3x Platinum and Free Spirit is 2x Platinum. He has several multiplatinum hit records, 5 top 10 hits from 30 Hot 100 entries since 2017 and his last tour back in 2019 was an arena tour. He managed all of that as an R&B artist and he's only 23 years old.

Well I guess it was too much to say "any", but surely he was kind of a phenomenon of his time (which was 4-5 years ago)

As for Alessia, does she even exist anymore? Last I heard, she worked with Major Lazer and Ali Gatie last year, but other than that, I've heard nothing. I think Olivia Rodrigo is filling her niche at the moment.

Ed sheeran and it's not even close. They both don't really attract media attention but Ed sells way more records and he is way more famous

Khalid, Puth, and Alessia Cara are popular with the demographic of shows like Stranger Things.

It is weird to me that Khalid hasn't been doing as well on the charts, especially considering that this new wave of R&B in the mainstream seems right up his alley. He has a great voice, I wouldn't mind seeing him have a revival.

There are quite a lot of artists doing that kind of music (like Giveon who is charting now, and whoever is charting next fall)

Well I guess it was too much to say "any", but surely he was kind of a phenomenon of his time (which was 4-5 years ago) One can't say his time is up, though. His debut album was released in 2017 and his sophomore in 2019. He's yet to release his third album or even begin it's era. How about waiting for that to kick in first before jumping to conclusions about the state of his career? Last year was a quiet year for him and he still managed to pull 1.8B streams in the US. That's more streams than artists like J. Cole, Young Thug, Harry Styles, Lil Durk, Doja Cat and Dua Lipa managed for the year.

I feel like the angle he's been going with his music is chasing the high of Talk, but not connecting. Might just be my opinion seeping into my analysis, but IMO if his music were more like American Teen it would be smashing rn.

I remember back when I was forced to listen to the radio for my job and talk was on after every ad break, I imagine anyone a lot of people listening to the radio then also lost a lot of interest towards anything Khalid out out after that. It doesnβt help that I thought the song was bad to begin with.

Heard it at a school party back when I was still in high school and loved it instantly.

I think Khalid will be fine next era. He's definitely established enough to have a new single pushed..but it is RCA..

Levitating Is this the first time it was streamed more than 1 million times in US? I think so. I'm not surprised, considering that its a very upbeat, positive song that is much more suited to warm, sunny days than the dead of winter when it was pushed on radio. If it keeps up the longevity, I could see it making the Year-End Top 10.

With all the R&B songs right now, why wouldn't Khalid get another hit?

In theory, he should, but the two singles he released earlier stalled on Hot 100 and this third with J Balvin is not going anywhere it seems. The only proper hit in 2 years is the Kane Brown feature (a country song).
Like said above, it doesn't help the label is RCA...

It still has 1,713,300 Controversy doesn't keep everything afloat for ever. Just accept that people are streaming the song not to spite homophobes anymore.

If Blinding Lights matches Circles feat of spending 22 weeks in the top 25 after leaving the top 10, it would finish with 92 weeks on the chart, beating Radioactive's record.

I guess he's more relevant than current Charlie and Alessia though and I still see him having another hit Khalid has multiple multi platinum albums that have never left the charts. I have no idea what is giving some of you the suggestion that he is over, especially when he has not put out anything

Wrong: he has released 5 songs since the start of 2020 and their peaks on Hot 100 are: 89, 83, 57, 19 (the Kane Brown collabo mentioned above) and now the new song with J Balvin (which isn't attached to any album as of now)
I am not saying he is over, but clearly struggling with the direction as the third album has been due for a year now.

Khalid is a stream magnet with a silent majority audience, all of these songs haven't done too bad on streaming and are all at least platinum (not to mention "Eleven" was nominated quite a few times at award shows). He will be absolutely fine
