One of the big game changing lists has just been submitted. This RD is gonna be wild.
Also gonna preview a few of these extras that made my Top 100. Those will get Blue tint highlights.
You Keep Runnin Away - .38 SpecialPure Southern Rock fun here. Great melody, vocals and NRG. I don't know how this missed the list? It was a top 10 hit for few weeks. Not much points gathered ,but certainly a more deserving rock song than some of the pop cruise overs on this list. Plus this was also a Pop cruise over. Would have made my top 40 at the least.
If You See Kay -
April WineI only ever heard one song from this album on the radio. The one we charted. I actually really enjoyed this one.
AC/DC would have capitalized on this song title ,and brought forth some dirty lyrics, but it's still a good song. Almost everything up to the chorus sounds like a
Loverboy song.. Even his singing style resembles Mike Reno's.
Put the Finger on You -
AC/DCSpeaking of AC/DC lyrics. I like this song. It's about as AC/DC as the band can get. Fierce to the max, and dirty. I feel they really wanted to say
"I Put the finger right in you". I bet they have sung that way in concerts too. and I bet the ladies sang along. ;)
Wildest Dreams -
AsiaThis one sounded really good to me. Probably my favorite Asia song that I never heard on the radio. it's funny how i never really cared for
Yes, yet
Asia took me on some wild epic rides with their stadium rock ready hooks and catchy choruses.
Here Comes the Feeling -
AsiaWOW! This one is even better. They are putting their best
Yes foot forward. Meaning bringing to the table the epic music vibes I actually enjoy from Yes's music. The medieval sounding synths that sound like trumpets would be one of those aspects. A lot of different melodies make up the song. Another one i never heard on the radio. Not even
KLOS. I'm think I could squeeze this in my top half? Definitely has more fire than
"Heat of The Moment".
Time Again -
AsiaThis one felt all over the place. It featured a lot of different cool melodies, but none of them really tied in together. Sounded too bi-polar. What I didn't like about
Yes. ironically it might just well be the one everyone else, but me finds interesting?
Learn How to Live -
Billy SquierBilly's louder than life vocals make this one a big bonfire of a song. Also one I charted.
Emotions in Motion -
Billy SquierThe immediate stand out of this song is how funky it is. The bridge to the chorus has more of the
"The Stroke" feel, but for the most part it remains in funky territory. Kinda reminds me of another
Joe Walsh song.
"Space Age Wiz Kidz" maybe?
Keep Me Satisfied-
Billy SquierA nice NRGetic song. The added pianos make it Feel more like REO Speedwagon, but they also give it a little boogie.
Johnny Can't Read - Don Henley Up to one of the big Top 3 songs on my 1982 music charts. This song was my first introduction to
Don Henley. Years later I put his voice together with
The Eagles. This one sounded nothing like The Eagles. It was jumpy, fun, very new wave and poppy. The lyrics seemed just right for a kid in grade school and I really related to them back then. I listen to this song today and I love it just as much as I did back in the day. Still remembered the lyrics too. An easy top 40 for my list.
"Dirty Laundry" is a classic, but i still like this one better.
Only Solutions - JourneyJumping to another big hit from my early chart years. By now I recognized
Steve Perry's vocals well and I remembered this song from the movie. My local Top 40 station
KIQQ played the extended version all the time. Even
KLOS played it, and it eventually went to
#1 on my chart. I would have surely been the highest ranker for this jam. It's in my top 10 favorite Journey songs ever. The extended version is my favorite for the mid break. The one I would give top 20 to on this list.
Still They Ride - JourneyAnother gorgeous song, but if the epic
"Open Arms" couldn't even make this list what hope did this pop classic have? If you love
Neal Schon's guitar solos this is one you definitely don't want to pass up. Hair and Glam Metal powerballads owe their existence to this band.
Tough WorldThe High and the Mighty -
Donnie IrisBoth these were perfect examples of early 80's album rock, but neither really shook me up. The intro of the second song reminded me of the drum intro from the old 20th century fox opening, but the song itself sounded like a bad soundtrack from a Broadway rock opera show. . Aside from
"Ah Leah" the only other song I charted from Donnie was
"Do You Compute" from 1983.
Man on the CornerYou Might Recall - GenesisI never really found "Man On The Corner" all that alluring, but I did recall liking "You Might Recall". Not for this list tho. Thank goodness we are ranking the right ones.
Summertime Blues- Joan Jett & the Blackhearts#24 is exactly where I peaked this banger too. I only heard this one on
KMET. It was the hardest of her singles from 1982. Joan Jett did some hard rocking covers. Another one i charted from the album was the cover of
Dave Clark Five "Bits and Pieces". Love those drum combos.
Green Day needs to cover this someday.
Thundering Hearts -
John MellencampJohn ruled 1982. His version of Biker rock always sounded radio ready fresh. This one got some radio play. I wish we had ranked
"Hand To Hold On To" . That one also hit top 20 on Hot 100. Still pissed we missed out on
"Jack N' Diane". At least that misfortune opened up another slot in my top 10.
Electric Eye-
Judas PriestSweet ear soothing Metal. I remember this one well from
KMET. If you loved Metal in grade school the craving will never leave you. This is Biker Metal revved to the max. Raise your devil horns if you have
"Screaming For Vengeance" on vinyl?
I'll do
Loverboy tommorow night, because
Loverboy need a night all for their own
