This is the most absurd rankdown in history.

Well, aside from “If You Love Me” I think most of us were correct in guessing which five songs would exit before the top 20.
I admittedly was shocked to see how bad “Renegades, Rebels and Rogues” fared in the year-end rankdown, so I knew it was for sure on borrowed time and wasn’t likely to make it much further. I’ve always thought this one was kind of an underrated jam! Maybe it’s just one of those songs that those of us who grew up with on country radio during the time appreciate a bit more than those who didn’t. The movie and soundtrack for The Maverick was a big success in 1994 and I very much remember going to see it in the theaters that summer.
I’d kind of put “How a Cowgirl Says Goodbye” in that same category as well as I think those of who were listening to country radio at that time have a bit more of an appreciate for it. This is just one of those songs that sounded great on the radio that summer.
While I’ve never liked “My Second Home” as much as the rest of the group, I do have to admit that chorus is two-steppin’ catchy. I also hadn’t seen that video in years and almost forgot all of the country artists that appeared in it! There’s Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, John Anderson, Holly Dunn, Tanya, Rodney Crowell, and countless others…bet that was a fun set to be on filming it!

Kicking off the top 20 we say goodbye to the final song from the Headlights, Taillights & Radios album, as well as the lone holdout from the 2010s that remained heading into the top 20. This song has such a powerful belted chorus, and honestly fits alongside Tracy's best, so I am really happy to see it do relatively well in this rankdown! Usually the unknown songs end up getting tanked in favor of the huge hits, but this one held its own admirably well!!

I'd certainly move "Lie" up some notches on my list as it's one of his more relatively recent singles that stuck out to me. I just have too much of an attachment to Tracy's earlier material though for a song like this to find its way into my top 20. I had a hunch this was going to be a well-received song and should've guessed then that it would land inside the top 20 at a minimum.

For some reason I thought that "If You Loved Me" would land outside of the top 20. That's only because it seems to be one of his more forgotten hits from the mid-90s, but alas I see my ranking for it was pretty much aligned with the group average.

I have long had the perception that "If You Loved Me" is one of his most underrated hits for some reason, and that largely proved to be the case here. This song raked in a handful of high ranks, including a top 2 from Cody Wants Out..., but always got just enough low ranks to undo the upward momentum and relegate it to about top 30 status. It was only FINALLY able to sneak into the top 20 with our last couple lists, and I am so glad that it did! This is one of my favorites from Tracy :)

"If The Good Die Young" is officially the second #1-peaking hit to leave us, and it is only fitting that it should be the followup single to "My Second Home", which was the first #1 hit to leave us! This one has a fun sassy energy to it. It is admittedly one that I get tired of much quicker than most of his other huge hits, so I can't listen to it on repeat, but there is no denying that its classic status warranted it a top 20 peak in this list! This is the first song we've seen that was a top 20 contender for the entire rankdown. ClevelandRox was the only person who put it not only in the bottom 10, but also in the bottom 20, so the fact that it was only a top 20 contender is a pretty good testament to how well-loved things are starting to become at this point!!

Ugh, this loss hurts ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) "Today's Lonely Fool" is one of his first huge hits, and imo really shows off what a great singer and unique vocalist he is after his debut single "Sticks And Stones" was super catchy but also not really all that different from what other '90s male artists were offering. I absolutely love the ascending chorus to this one. It reminds me a lot of "We Were In Love" by Toby Keith, which I believe was also my #2 in his rankdown lol. I thought this one was going to get more top 10 ranks than just tim and I :'( But oh well, at least most of the ranks were in the teens and the twenties, which allowed it to stay a top 20 for the entire submission process!

I was already bracing myself that y'all would do "Today's Lonely Fool" a bit dirty, so given that I went into this keeping my expectations low. Still, this was at least deserving of a top 15 showing at a minimum! This song is just so, so good and is one of Tracy's best.

Lmao and what is your reasoning for that? ![](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/popcorn.gif) Well, first off I'm incredibly bad at hints lol. But, Little Big Town with the album Pain Killer and Sara Evans with a specific lyric from "A Little Bit Stronger".

The hint was actually for "Better Man, Better Off". Little Big Town has a song called "Better Man" obviously, and Sara Evans has a song called "Better Off" (and in fact, Tracy's song always appears right between them in my iTunes! ![:giggle:](//storage.proboards.com/1258812/images/aSdDjxeFubxIlbMzpKXc.gif) So I can literally never think of this song without thinking of both of the others!)

"Better Man, Better Off" is such a jam and I don't quite know why some of y'all don't hear it. Maybe it's just that I happen to regard the years of 1996/1997 as being one of the best for country radio in the 90s, but this has always been a go-to song from Tracy for me.

I mean, there really isn't anything left in this top 15 that doesn't belong there. At this point songs that managed to be this high are probably pretty highly regarded! Lol Edit: Except for some specific individuals who shall receive profuse side-eye for their low ranks from here on out.

Lol "Used to the Pain" comes to mind ![:kii:](https://atrl.net/uploads/emoticons/fan.gif) You act like it's not in the top half of your own list 😂 But I will say, it's pretty amazing how well the two random flop singles from his Then & Now: Hits Collection album stack up alongside his huge career-hits. Clearly "Used To The Pain" and "If I Don't Make It Back" flopping on the charts is 100% radio missing the memo!!! At least based on the way they're received on Pulse, lol.

I'm just still a bit bitter and flabbergasted by it coming out ahead of "If I Don't Make It Back" in sabre14 's Hidden Gems Rankdown. Hoping for a different outcome here!

Pretty much the songs I expected to see at 16-20, with "Today's Lonely Fool" as the big exception. The chorus of that song is so memorable and soaring, I thought for sure it would challenge for the top 10. Bummer to see it out already, although most of what's left is pretty damn good.
I'll take a stab in the dark and say these songs miss the top 10: "Used To The Pain" "Stars Over Texas" "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" "Is That A Tear?" "As Any Fool Can See" (really, really hope I'm wrong, just have a hard time seeing anything else missing out)

That was based off one or two unnamed posters tanking “If I Don’t Make It Back” lol. High ranks and non-polarizing is how you come out on top of big rankdowns.
