Woohoo, very deserving win for "How Great Thou Art"!!! I feel like covers of this song tend to be on the boring side 90% of the time, but Carrie's has so much life in them vocals, how could you not love it! While her voice has a tendency to be too brassy sometimes when she doesn't hold back, for this song that power works perfectly. I will never get tired of the way it makes me feel when she launches into that key change in the third act of the song
This cover of "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" is absolutely incredible, thanks in large part to the collaboration with CeCe. She is a highly capable vocalist, and adds an element of soul to this that enhances Carrie's strengths perfectly. They sound amazing together!
That being said, I would have loved to see "Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus" in the top 2. This is a song that I wasn't all that familiar with, since it's not nearly as over-covered as something like "Amazing Grace" or "How Great Thou Art". But Carrie's version completely blew me away!!! The tempo of this song helped it to stand out on an album that I was expecting to be almost entirely ballads, and especially as the de facto "opening track" it honestly helped subvert a lot of my expectations for this album right from the very beginning, helping me to enjoy the whole project even more than I was anticipating. This is a fun, inspired recording!
Add me to the camp who finds "Softly And Tenderly" to be a bit on the boring side... I definitely am not disappointed to see it in the top 5 here, but it doesn't reach the epic levels of anything else in the top 5 imo. I definitely like Reba's recent version with Kelly and Trisha more. Carrie drags out the ritardandos every chance she can with this song, and I kinda like how Reba's just keeps moving and doesn't slow down.
And "Because He Lives" was INCREDIBLE!!!! One of my favorite discoveries here So glad to see it be in the top 5!!!
