Who are some singers/rappers who flopped musically, but were still able to maintain successful careers in the entertainment industry? -Christina Milian has not been relevant musically since "Say Aah," but she's now a Netflix staple, media personality, and social media influencer. -Ciara is more famous for being "Ciara" these days than for her music. Is this about celebrities who tried a career in music and flopped/never had success in that field, but went on to find success in other entertainment fields? Or people who had success initially but eventually flopped and moved onto other things? Both of those examples listed above would be the latter, (although Ciara's had much more music success than Christina Milian). I would imagine finding an example of the first kind would be harder, whereas it's natural for the celebrity that's no longer getting hits to branch out into other entertainment fields, a la, wherever the money's at.
Jessica Simpson would be another example of the latter, as she's probably remembered more for Newlyweds (and saying dumb shit) than she is for any of her singles, and now she's mostly focused on her billion-dollar fashion company. Mandy Moore still releases music, but acting has been a far more successful route for her, and the average person probably thinks of her as an actress first.

Nick Cannon is pretty much a one-hit wonder musically, but he's had a successful hosting career.

Tracey Ullman. One big international hit in the early 80s, sophomore album flopped, and then she went on to a very successful and lengthy comedy and acting career.

Not sure if this field would count but two "flop" singers that come to mind are Chris Braide and Bonnie McKee. Both have had a catalog of hits as songwriters though.

Billie Piper. She found success with her singles across the UK/Europe/Australia but her albums did poorly and she became disillusioned with music. She's found much greater success as an actress.

Janelle Monáe She is an inspiration. She said a big F__K YOU to that toxic douchebag who had been stringing her along for years and kept it moving. Thank God she didn't have any babies with that man, relegating herself to being one of his several baby mamas. She got instead with a younger, gorgeous man who worships her and made her his OFFICIAL woman, not to mention she had beautiful babies with him. The ultimate glow-up, the ultimate upgrade! We love Ms Cassie. 💕🙇♂️

Janelle Monae has had a successful music career. The commercial performance just never matched the critical acclaim she got.

Maya Angelou released an album of calypso music in 1957 before she became a famous poet and writer. It was mildly successful, but she abandoned her singing career for bigger and better things and she doesn't mention the album at all in the memoir that covers that period of her life.
Ricky Gervais was the lead singer of the early 1980s New Romantic duo Seona Dancing, which released two singles that went nowhere and they broke up in 1984. The next year, their song "More to Lose" became a huge belated hit in the Philippines, and that was the only success they had.

Will Smith's music career was not a flop, even if he eventually became much better known as an actor/producer/director/Hollywood honcho.

Siedah Garrett's solo album was not a hit but she went on to achieve a lot of success, touring with major artists and wining a Grammy, plus Oscar nominations for her songwriting.
Carole Bayer Sager too.

Jack Wagner massive hit at the start of 1985 "All I Need" looked promising for musical career... but he remained as a Soap Opera actor for several years on General Hospital, Santa Barbara, Melrose Place and The Bold and the Beautiful.

Milla Jovovich. She has two albums and several soundtrack appearances, but is much better known for her acting.

A bunch of former Idol contestants found careers in acting - mostly in theatre - after failing to find success in music. The most notable ones that I can think of off the top of my head:
- Justin Guarini - first landed a permanent hosting gig on the TV Guide network, then moved on to theatre - Diana DeGarmo - mostly theatre, but also had a brief stint on The Young & The Restless - Constantine Maroulis. I believe Constantine is the only former Idol to receive a Tony nomination - Ace Young - Kat McPhee found her footing in television first, then moved up to Broadway in 2018. Acting was her first love anyway so I'm sure that's exactly how she prefers it - Jordin Sparks did briefly have a successful musical career, but she hit a brick wall almost immediately after the lead single from her second album and moved on to Broadway and film. - Todrick Hall has some appearances on Broadway as well, but is best known now as a Youtube personality whose flash mob videos eventually paved the way for him to become a choreographer for RuPaul's Drag Race and Beyonce's Blow video...though to be honest, somehow finding his way into Taylor Swift's friend circle has probably been his actual greatest success by far lol.
I'm not sure whether or not I'd include JHud here. She initially did not find a record deal after her Idol season, so she really didn't even make it to the point where we could say she 'flopped' before doing something else. She got signed after her success with Dreamgirls, and her first two albums were certified gold and had a few hits on r&b/hip-hop. I do recall at the time some people looked at that as an underperformance for someone coming off such a big breakthrough, but for a female r&b artist debuting in the late 2000s-early 2010s this was actually quite decent.
