Here's our exit interview with No No Drama (Enyasurvivor & shruggie)How do you feel about your time in the race?
Enya: I wanted to do PAR to make friends, have fun, and win ...and I failed at all three. Coming from Pulse Survivor & BB, I was under the impression that this was a more competitive game than it actually is, which got me into hot water early on. I really tried to make meaningful connections to the theme (“august” being the 8th month and also the 8th track on folklore deliberately, “Intergalactic” since we’re in space) but that’s not what this game is, I guess. I also struggled to work with Shruggie since he’s pretty non-verbal and I’m basically the opposite. I’m sure he would be a great partner for someone else, but it just wasn’t working for me. It’s pretty demoralizing when you send a list of songs and get no response from any of the tracks - good or bad.
Shruggie: few thoughts 1. Man, I just really can't seem to fight the six-round curse huh 2. Man, I really failed to make top 10 again huh 3. I should've gone with Beat It 4. Some of Enya's roadblocks picks weren't too good I'm sorry 5. (no offense to enya btw) 6. idk have fun 7. maybe i shouldn't devote too much to bolded rym singles next time lol 8. a bonus would've really helped us out considering where we landed this leg 9. few thoughts lmao
Do you think you could've/should've done anything different?
Enya: I think I would’ve pushed against “Run” by Joji more. At the time, I felt like I wanted Shruggie’s voice to be heard more but I should’ve known that if I don’t like a song, how the hell are the judges gonna like it. I also wouldn’t have suggested a 0 for Mr. Brightside. I stand by everything else, but I think suggesting a team get a 0 for that sort of mistake was too harsh and I apologize for that.
Shruggie: I guess you can look above because some of the stuff there fits here as well
Any predictions?
Enya: Hard to predict with a team switch coming up, but I don’t think a newbie will win. People’s personal tastes are a lot more important to this game than it seems, so it helps to know more people.
Shruggie: Anne Marie's Ninjas will win

Continuing their excellent run is...
1. Team Don't lecture me, Obi-Wan. I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace... freedom, justice and security to my new empire. Your new empire? Don't make me kill you. Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy! If you're not with me... then you're my enemy. (filthy & tanooki )Overall Score: 71.9 | Detour Rank: #3 | Roadblock Rank: #4 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.4Detour Results:(Hot Shot)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This song is somewhat miraculous, as I feel like almost everyone recognizes its brilliance. Does it even really have haters or "its overrated" people? Probably, but those people don't know what they're talking about (9.5)District: (9)Matt: FRIENDS: Season 9, Episode 25: The One With The Piano (8.1)Shruggie: Late 90s banger. (9.3)Overall Score: 35.9
Roadblock Results:(Sent by Filthy)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: There was some video of all the New York City Mayoral Candidates saying their favorite NYC movies and one of them was really adamant that this movie was just called "Taxi". Maybe that's just what people in the know call it. Great song though, I love the jazzy horns all throughout (9.5)
District: This is my highest roadblock score, love the solos here especially. (9.6)
Leaf: This had a nice jazzy sound going for it. I've always found those trumpet solos kind of shrill, but they made it work fine here. (7.5)
Enya: You know instantly where you are with this score. This is 70s NYC with crime surrounding you on all sides. The sax is perfect because as an instrument, it is quite loud, but also cacophonous and empty at the same time, which is much like how one feels in a big city. (8)
Overall Score: 34.6
Five straight top 3 finishes with two wins on each end has you two looking unstoppable! You'll get a +1.9 bonus next leg.

Rising back up to 2nd is...
2. Weezer (willapted33 & ramona wants sleep )Overall Score: 71.7 | Detour Rank: #8 | Roadblock Rank: #1 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.2Detour Results:
(Smaller Spot)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I heard someone cover this song the other day, except it was about Aaron Rodgers and his wife. Happy to say the original is still better than that version (8.9)District: her voice is so pristine and effortless, beautiful track (8.8)Matt: I think most of the credit for this song's vast acclaim as a classic in the country genre comes from its framing. The writing is pretty impressive especially for its time, and I also think Parton's voice sounds fresh off the mic particularly when compared to some later stuff I've heard from her. I mention this first cause the actual song is pretty standard, from the melodies to the little guitar lines in the back, but i dont really care about that s**t thaaaaaaaat much. Does what it's tryna do perfectly and i respect that. #ripdollypartonsheain'tdeadyetbutforwhenshediecauseiknowit'scominup (7.8)Shruggie: How'd this not crack top 50? (8.5)Overall Score: 34
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Will)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I can't say I'm too familiar with Twin Peaks, but I was impressed by this song. It's full of escalating tension that gets let out towards the end of the song. This definitely made me curious to check out its source material (9)
District: (8.8)
Leaf: I'm a sucker for ambient pieces. I love how the piano slowly becomes uplifting but bittersweet and then goes away, leaving this haunting, ominous vibe. (10)
Enya: I’ve never watched Twin Peaks, but this theme instantly gives me a sense of what kind of show it is. There’s a sense of eerie hopefulness in this score that works so well. (8.7)
Overall Score: 36.5
You two got 2nd in the first leg, collapsed in the second, and have worked your way back up to 2nd since! You'll get a +1.4 bonus next leg.

Getting their third straight top 3 finish is...
3. Born to Jugg (born & CagedJuggalo The Third Tanker )Overall Score: 69.6 | Detour Rank: #5 | Roadblock Rank: #6 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.6Detour Results: (Smaller Spot)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: My enjoyment of most Sufjan Stevens songs basically comes down to how engaged I am by the instrumental. Thankfully this is probably the best instrumental of his I've heard (9.5)District: god I love this album so much (10)Matt: As I've come back to some of the songs from that one musically elite CrapGuy game since then, a lot of the ones that weren't already my all-time favorites have never really sounded as good as they had in that context, and this is one of them. I think this might be because, somewhat counterintuitively, the maddeningly strong group and the supposed "acclaim" of all these songs made it a lot easier for songs to appear as supposed masterpieces when I probably wouldn't have really cared for them in an ordinary context. I think this is a pretty interesting concept that is sadly probably impossible to quantify. I guess unless unreliable methods like pigeonholed surveys are used which I personally think aren't really a good substitute cause as we've seen throughout this game, opinions on music are pretty hard to pin down and place into some group without elaborating or having more complicated feelings. This is a rather roundabout way of saying that looking at it now, this is just a regular ass indie folk tune that only has one melody line I really care for; the "Don't back down" part past the 3-minute mark. That's good s**t and bumps it up, but this isn't really the type of tune I love listening to normally. (5.8)Shruggie: Absolutely beautiful (10)Overall Score: 35.3
Roadblock Results: (Sent by Jugg)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This is cute. I like how the music conveys the story of the scene it tells (if memory serves at least). I can almost see the various set pieces playing out as the song goes on. (9.3)
District: (9.5)
Leaf: This was really pleasant, in a sort of "I can forget all my worries listening to this" way. (8.9)
Enya: This was a tough one because while I love Up (I watched coming home from London and ended up sobbing on the plane), I think it’s the type of film that requires all the elements in order to come alive. Without the stunning visuals and achingly beautiful storyline for context, this score just becomes an Amélie-lite tune. (5)
Overall Score: 32.7
An overall consistent leg (great leg if you remove one judge from each challenge) landed you two in the top 3 again! You'll get a +1.2 bonus next leg.

Staying mostly consistent is...
4. The Invisible Hand (Red & Sambalada )Overall Score: 69.4 | Detour Rank: #10 | Roadblock Rank: #3 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.8Detour Results:
(Smaller Spot)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: i like the instrumental on this track for sure. The rest of it, while perfectly enjoyable, doesn't connect with me in a very distinct way, so I'm not sure this is something I'll come back to a ton (7.8)District: (8.4)Matt: Haven't heard this one before, but it's a pretty dope singer-songwriter tune with some surprisingly fluid instrumental bits in the background that bring a ton of life to this track. I especially like the horn fluorishes that come in time to time, that s**t really helps add to this song's loungey feel, like something you'd hear in a coffee shop or what girls in movies listen to when they catch feelings. idk. it's good (8.2)Shruggie: Bop (8.5)Overall Score: 32.9
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Samba)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I wanted to make sure I remembered a couple of things about the movie right so I googled Reqium For a Dream and the first result was "Reqium For a Dream song" - guess that's a good sign that I'm not the only one who really enjoys this (8.9)
District: this was intense (8.6)
Leaf: I like how tension was maintained fairly well throughout the whole song without ending up sounding too repetitive. (8.7)
Enya: I’ve never seen Requiem for a Dream (I know, how can I say I love movies and never seen it. It’s on my list!), but this score is just so hauntingly unsettling, you just know the movie is gonna be messed up. The strings really provide a sense of drama to an otherwise brooding instrumental. (9.5)
Overall Score: 35.7
Despite losing the detour, you two did well on the roadblock, and you'll get a +1 bonus next leg.

Locking in another top 5 finish is...
5. Anne-Marie's Ninjas (MoD & maine )Overall Score: 69.1 | Detour Rank: #7 | Roadblock Rank: #5 | Bonus From Last Leg: +2.1Detour Results: (Smaller Spot)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This song is so grand. I really like Sam Fender's voice and he tends to match the energy of the instruments in a great way. Still a favorite of mine from whatever madness it was in (9.3)District: sam fender go brr. love this guy's music, need to check this album out soon. (9.3)Matt: Lol, the opening rhyme of "parking lot / parking spot" reminds me so much of Meek's Dreams and Nightmares. Why didn't any of you fools send that song yet it'd be at least a 9.5 fasho. This is one I have heard before cause back when I was on this site it lost a game to Circles by a hair. Goddamn it's been a while lmao. I remember liking it quite a bit, which is in no short aided by the bombastic ass instrumental accompanying Sam's relentless vocal performance; dude would fit well leading a punk band or some s**t cause he sounds pretty British. The rockin' guitars and exciting horn line coming to a climax toward the end make this one of the best songs sonically in this whole seed. Surprisingly well written too (8.4)Shruggie: Never really been into Sam Fender too much but this one is good. (7)Overall Score: 34
Roadblock Results:(Sent by James)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: It's one of the best times in all of film when this comes on during a Bond movie. Its perfect for the types of plots Bond movies tend to follow, and especially the lower notes really give off a spy-esque vibe. (9.8)
District: (9.2)
Leaf: (8.5)
Enya: This is another one that requires the visuals to really pop. Without seeing Bond doing spy things and then appearing in the gunshot panel, this just seems too loud and brash for its own good. I do enjoy the final strum of the guitar at the end though! (5.5)
Overall Score: 33
Though you weren't outstanding in either challenge, overall consistency managed to get you into the top 5 with a +0.8 bonus for next leg.

Moving back up to their peak position is...
6. Dula Peep Please Step on My Face (@jadenlefranks & HamedM1 💔 )Overall Score: 68.4 | Detour Rank: #2 | Roadblock Rank: #7 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.4Detour Results:
(Smaller Spot)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Is it possible to go wrong with Ms. Lauryn Hill? I think not (8.8)District: prefer this to Doo Wop, just a great song. the harmonies are really nice as well. (9.4)Matt: A song and its sample in the same goddamn group, impressive. I first heard of this song from said Drake sample back in 2018, so when I checked it out I didn't really expect it to be this smooth, jazzy R&B slow jam since the sample was pitched and sped up to fit with the upbeat, catchy New Orleans bounce feel of NFW. As for the actual song, it seems a bit all over the place melodically until you get halfway through and see where the buildup brings you, which makes this song's bazillion hooks a benefit for sure. Lauryn's voice is also great, although that's hardly ever not a great thing for this type of late-90s/early 2000s R&B (8.7)Shruggie: Neo-soul forever (9.8)Overall Score: 36.7
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Hamed)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I really enjoyed this for what it was. I liked how the whistles played into the louder instruments later in the song. My one issue is that it's not even a minute and a half long, so I'm kinda left wanting a bit more by the end (8.7)
District: (7.4)
Leaf: Generally not big on whistling, especially if I don't find the melody "satisfying" per se and there are no instruments (through most of it in this case), but the second half elevates it a little bit. (6.2)
Enya: I actually looked into this one because and realized it’s originally from a 1968 film of the same name, which I am now desperate to watch. Imagining this in a psychological thriller makes me tense up already. The whistling is so simple yet so unnerving and then the full orchestra comes in and puts the jump scare into you. (9)
Overall Score: 31.3
This was another middle of the road leg for you two, which again left you as the only team not to finish in the top 5 left in the race. You'll get a +0.6 bonus next leg.

Continuing to stick in the bottom of the pack is...
7. Red Planets (BB🌕 & Fire )Overall Score: 68.1 | Detour Rank: #1 | Roadblock Rank: #8 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.2Detour Results:(Hot Shot)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Four years later, this is still as great as its always been. (9)District: probably my favourite kendrick song, basic moment (9.4)Matt: When DAMN. first released back in the spring of 2017 (current me would be far more excited by the release of Carti's self-titled mixtape on the same day, but sadly I became obsessed with the far less talented Kendrick) it quickly jumped up to all-time status after only a few listens. I hadn't really heard most of his prior two records back then, both of which are hailed as two of the greatest albums of all time in general, so Kendrick's choppy flows and talented pen game that everyone and their mother has already raved about. But yeah idk man i don't love most of these songs so far and today, on certain tracks Kendrick's vocals sound straight up s**tty like LOVE. and GOD. and FEAR. and even parts of songs I really like such as XXX. HUMBLE and DNA. were the clear big hitters when this dropped, and for the latter it is still (mostly) the phenom it was in 2017. The obvious highlight is when Mike-WiLL cuts the beat, plays the Fox News Sample, and then the track goes off the f**kin rails as he deadass *creates and edits the beat to match Kendrick's flow.* Like i know that sounds a bit 13-year-old-hip-hop-enthusiast-named-nathan ish but that s**t is true and blows me the f**k away every time. As for the rest of the song? Not sure. It feels like one of those movies where my favorite scene is just a few away and every other character interaction just feels like biding time. Similarly, coming back to this I just feel like I'm *waiting* for the switchup to come and I deadass got actively bored with Kendrick's, admittedly, kinda samely flow during the first leg of the track. I still really like this song and think the ending is the absolute best section of any of these songs, but I gotta say it's been brought down a bit over time (8.6)Shruggie: I GOT I GOT I GOT I GOT (10)Overall Score: 37.1
Roadblock Results:(Sent by Fire)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: It's an iconic song, but also maybe the most obvious choice for this theme? I think you would benefit greatly from trying to dig a little deeper and send songs that haven't been sent in previous seasons (7.8)
District: (8)
Leaf: (8.5)
Enya: This one is obviously iconic but dare I say overrated? This sounds like it has its own storyline with the amount of embellishments and lines of music throughout, but I can’t help but wonder if this team could have pushed themselves further with something less obvious. (6.5)
Overall Score: 30.8
Once again, you two struggled by going for too many expected picks. It's gotten you by so far, but just barely, and with the competition thinning out you'll need to try and send songs that haven't been sent before and aren't as expected to reach the top levels of the competition. You'll get a +0.4 bonus next leg.

Continuing to struggle after their win is...
8. Feeters (@chartf**ker72 & samo🦕 )Overall Score: 66 | Detour Rank: #4 | Roadblock Rank: #9 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0Detour Results:
(Hot Shot)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This is such a sweet song. There's one moment towards the end of the song where there's a slight key change in Taylor's vocals which is just perfect (9.5)District: this song is so beautifully crafted. a folklore highlight for sure, I come back to this a lot. (10)Matt: Taylor really pulled a Will Smith, Pooh Shiesty, Pi'erre Bourne, Lil Durk, 6LACK, Kai Benz and Denzel Curry and switched it up on this record folklore, with the world-conquering #1 cardigan being sent for this round. I thought this one was a nice breath of fresh air and a very fitting change in style, as her now deeper voice and the relaxing, misty and laid back instrumentals complemented each other perfectly. Sadly I didn't love that this was the biggest song off of it cause it feels like one of the less unique arrangements on the album by a long shot. There are lots of fantastic harmonizations, instrumental pieces, and other cool s**t all over this thing but this one feels more like a normal piano jaunt without much of a rise and fall and one of the more boring songs melodically. Can't rate this one much higher than just "pleasant" i dunno man (6.1)Shruggie: And so Taylor's streak ends in 2020. How sad. (9.8)Overall Score: 35.4
Roadblock Results:(Sent by Samo)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: The killer guitars really elevate this to be an all time iconic TV theme song (9.3)
District: (9.2)
Leaf: (7.8)
Enya: I love cheesy 80s themes but this just ain’t it for me. It becomes too repetitive too quickly and just doesn’t go anywhere. Of the three big 80s tv themes (Magnum PI, Miami Vice, Knight Rider), I find this one to be the weakest. (4.3)
Overall Score: 30.6
After winning a few legs ago, you two have really struggled. Perhaps a +0.2 bonus next leg will help you out.

9. Mylo Shark (razorshark & Mylo13 💜 )Overall Score: 64.8 | Detour Rank: #6 | Roadblock Rank: #10 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1Detour Results: (Hot Shot)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This is still fun. (8.4)District: I didn't like this for the longest time but now I do lol, definitely a vibe (9)Matt: I already talked about this song a little bit with the source of its sample, and how it switches up its source material in an interesting way that's unlike anything he's done before. Drake is one of my favorite artists, and while I personally prefer his sadder side or his off-the-rip trap side, there is no doubt this is one of his best pop hits and it's easy to see why this one is so universal. One of the main draws is it being a partial tribute to the struggles of women, making him sound like a totally different person to mr. cups of the rose. The aforementioned beat with the Ex-Factor is also pretty dope, with lots of switchups to keep it entertaining and a consistent thumping bass which Drake slides over effortlessly. I'm glad this was one of the big singles leading up to the album, as it would have sounded off hearing it for the first time sandwiched between all the weak moody sad boy flows and the super flat ass beats. Time to pray for CLB to sound more like Take Care and less like Scorpion. Still an excellent track (8.8)Shruggie: Here we are, with the best single on Scorpion. Ofc the main problem I had with that album was that it was boring and downbeat, but this is the exact opposite which is what makes it great. (8.8)Overall Score: 35
Roadblock Results: (Sent by Razor)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I'm not a huge Star Wars, so I don't have a particular connection with this song. It works for what it is, but I find it a little over done for my liking (6.9)District: (7.3)Leaf: (7.6)Enya: I rolled my eyes when I first saw two Star Wars scores on here merely for it being a little TOO on the nose thematically (are there no other space movies you could’ve chosen?) Luckily, this score is just too good as the flutes usher in a quickness that makes your heart race. You know s**t’s going down in whatever scene this is scoring. (7)Overall Score: 28.8
Losing the roadblock dragged you two down, and it would've eliminated you if the other team had sent their songs on time. However, you're still in it, even if you don't get a bonus next leg.
Unfortunately being eliminated is...
10. The 17 Year Olds (@trilogy & woods )Overall Score: 64.6 | Detour Rank: #9 | Roadblock Rank: #2 | Net Penalty: -4.4Detour Results: (Hot Shot)Judge's Thoughts)Nick: I've made it pretty clear that I don't care for this song. Ive always felt that the various parts don't go together super well. I know a lot of people love this one, but I'm not one of them (6)District: I remember playing this non-stop on repeat lol. what an earworm! this was my most scrobbled song for a while. (10)Matt: Ariana's best strength has always been her kick-ass voice, which is why when this song was new and fresh, I was kind of let down by the ordinary dance pop feel of the rest of the track after the almost ethereal opening, which is still definitely my favorite part. But I think this one has held up remarkably over time, definitely better than her other drops back in this period. Something I respect this song a lot for is not really relying on the typical "pop perfection" style of dance pop tunes that Lipa and Jepsen are famous for doing which has, personally, always bored the f**k out of me. This instrumental is a bit different, with some coo unique drum patterns and beat emphasises used which give this track its own unique sound. Ariana still has plenty of personality on here too, especially on the verses, which I think was mostly absent from her last record. So yeah this is some good s**t that has rosen up to be one of her best in my eyes (8.2)Shruggie: So 2018 was a tough year for Ariana, and this one actually surprised me because she has finally learned to move on from the tough times. (9)Overall Score: 33.2
Roadblock Results: (Sent by Woods)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I grew up on Peanuts, so perhaps I'm a bit biased, but the classic piano line in here is just a nearly perfect melody. Listening to this one never fails to put a smile on my face. (10)
District: (9.2)
Leaf: (8.1)
Enya: This is just a cozy warm blanket on a snowy afternoon for me. The maracas in the background remind me of falling snow and the spinning of the tape in the studio actually sounds like a crackling fire at times. This will always put a smile on my face even if it’s not the most innovative score here. (8.5)
Overall Score: 35.8
If you two had sent your songs on time, not only would you have survived the leg, you would've been in third place! Alas, it was not meant to be, and I'm sorry to say that you have been eliminated. Let this serve as a lesson to other teams to get your songs in on time. Thanks for playing!

Lmfao I don't pay attention to movie scores so it took longer than 36 hours to think of one I liked. I'm shocked it was #2.
Anyway I'm glad I finally got to participate in this! I enjoyed it.

Challenge #1: Detour
What is a detour? In these challenges, two themes will be available, and teams will choose to send a song for the one they feel more confident in. Be sure to specify which theme you are sending for!
Detour Themes Element Spawn or Oxymoron
Element Spawn: Saturn is a gas giant, meaning that it is mostly made up of gaseous elements. For this detour, you must send a song featuring a periodic table abbreviation of two letters in the title.
OR
Oxymoron: Saturn is in a way an oxymoron, as despite being a ball it spins so fast that it flattens itself out. For this detour, you must send a song that features an oxymoron in a lyric.
Challenge #2: Roadblock What is a roadblock? In these challenges, only one member of the team can come up with a song to send. No consulting. You'll be on the honor system here. Send in your group pm who will do this road block. They will then without consulting their teammate see the theme and send the song in individual pms. tl;dr only one person sends a song, pick who that is in the group pms, then and only then they see the theme.
Challenge #3: PAR WarsWhat are the PAR Wars?PAR Wars is a brand new type of challenge as we traverse the universe! In these challenges, you must either choose to send a song for "The Light Side" or "The Dark Side". If you send a Light Side song, your goal is to send the best song possible. If you send a Dark Side song, your goal is to send the worst song possible (scoring will be inverted here, so a 0/10 becomes a 10/10). However, the theme for both categories is the same, and you don't get to see the theme until you lock in whether you'll be doing The Light Side or The Dark Side.PLEASE READ: Each team has to attempt both sides of PAR Wars at least once over the entire game to be eligible to win the season. There will be three PAR Wars legs, this is the second one. Plan your choices wisely. Consult with your teammate and get your songs in within 36 hours or else your team will NOT have a song in that category and will get an automatic 0/10. Feel free to ask Nick and District any and all questions you may have. The universe is waiting for you. Travel safe. Go!
