I have escaped not having to look at the elements periodic table all through high school (social studies gang) just to break the streak for Pulse Amazing Race. Nice.

Here's our exit interview with The 17 Year Olds (@trilogy & woods)How do you feel about your time in the race?
Trilogy: i thought it was fun for a first timer! the way me and woods were taken out was the last way i would've wanted, but seeing as we'd hit every placement range before going out this early, i would say i got the full experience rather than make it seem like i flopped multiple times (which we did but 🦍)
Woods: As I said, I enjoyed it. I like that in this game you have a partner and I think Trilogy and I did well with teamwork. I'd probably do it again.
Do you think you could've/should've done anything different?
Trilogy: not at the time of writing, no. obviously i could say that i should've done the rb but woods already picked a good song so everything else is not in my reach of mentioning
Woods: Obviously I should've sent in a song within 36 hours and known more movie scores. But just to be clear, I was completely aware of the 36-hour deadline and I didn't forget at all, I just panicked the whole time because I couldn't think of any movie scores until after the 36 hours were up and since District granted me a 12-hour extension I thought I wouldn't be penalized but I was wrong. So yeah try not to do what I did, but I wouldn't blame you if you found yourself in that situation.
Any predictions?
Trilogy: a redemption match comes up and me and woods smash it on our way into winning 😎
Woods: Nope!

So the judges critiquing the dark side songs have to grade the following: - intentionally gross and offensive grindcore made in bad taste - literal 60s war propaganda that is also anti-drug - a stupid transphobic joke song from 2010 - and...okay Hello Kitty Suicide Club actually slaps but for anyone who doesnt listen to hardcore music, they're going to have a heart attack

Acquiring their second leg win is...
1. Born to Jugg (born & CagedJuggalo The Third Tanker )Overall Score: 112.8 | Detour Rank: #1 | Roadblock Rank: #2 | PAR Wars Rank: #5 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.2Detour Results:(Element Spawn)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I feel like new Ellie Goulding gets a fair amount of flack for a decline in quality (partially justified for sure!), but I still dig some of what she's recent put out. Hard to deny that she used to be far better though (8.5)District: pop perfection! (9.8)Web: Lights was one of the songs that helped me break through writing off pop music when I was first starting to expand my taste, not that I ever had a huge bias against it but definitely wasn't my go-to genre in 2011. Also greatly prefer the version where the drums don't pop in until the second verse and glad that was the version on the playlist, adds a nice build to the song. Glad this became as big as it was even if she hasn't followed it up with the greatest tracks recently. (9)Woods: (9.9)Overall Score: 37.2
Roadblock Results:(Sent by Born)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This is like the 4th or 5th time I've reviewed this song for a PAR/LS game, which might mean I would have to dock some creativity points if this wasn't one of the most perfect songs ever made (10)District: was grinning and singing along throughout! my favourite stevie wonder song here. (9.6)Leo: (9.3)Trilogy: i know what sex is...... but i won't tell you (8.9)Overall Score: 37.8
PAR Wars Results:(The Light Side)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Purely good vibes (9.6)
District: tame impala moment (9.3)
Shooter: Tame Impala grooves always put me in the best mood. They rarely do wrong by me! (8)
Fearless: One of my favorite Tame Impala songs. I really like the sound of the whole Currents album - Tame Impala has a psychedelic sound in general but Currents might be my favorite in terms of production. Yes, call me basic. (9.7)
Overall Score: 36.6
Another strong leg got you two your fourth straight top four finish. Even though you struggled to start the race, you've now emerged as a top contender to win. You'll get a +1.7 bonus next leg.

Getting their 6th straight spot on the podium is...
2. Don't lecture me, Obi-Wan. I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace... freedom, justice and security to my new empire. Your new empire? Don't make me kill you. Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy! If you're not with me... then you're my enemy. Only a Sith deals in absolutes. I will do what I must. (filthy & tanooki )Overall Score: 110.3 | Detour Rank: #8 | Roadblock Rank: #3 | PAR Wars Rank: #1 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.9Detour Results:
(Oxymoron)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I wasn't a huge fan of this in Madness, but I like it more now (8.2)District: Lianne's voice is so divine and pleasing to the ears. I prefer Can't Fight but this still bops. (9.2)Web: I'm not going to pretend I didn't discover Lianne La Havas from her Weird Fishes cover, and still love how the first few bars fake you out from thinking it's going to be note perfect and then switches into a smooth, laid back version of the tense original track. But that cover did lead me to listening to her self titled album a few months later and this track was one of the standouts on it. Her voice is so comfortable when it hangs on to the end of each line, and the backing vocals sneaking into the hook are a nice touch. Hope to only see her get bigger from here. (8.5)Woods: (6.5)Overall Score: 32.4
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Tanooki)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Will there be a song in The Cure's discography that Tanooki and Filthy haven't sent by the end of the race? (9.6)District: wait I really gotta check out this album between this and pictures of you, thanks guys (9.7)Leo: (8.5)Trilogy: not the adele version so pass 👎 (9.1)Overall Score: 36.9
PAR Wars Results:
(The Dark Side)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Nah (0.1)
District: This was not listenable at all, my ears hurt. (0)
Shooter: Whoever sent this understood the assignment!! Give them the W! (0)
Fearless: The screeching is annoying af but otherwise I don’t think it’s bad. But the screeching makes my head hurt. (0.8)
Overall Score: 0.9 -> 39.1
You two have become dominant in the race since leg 3. You'll get a +1.2 bonus next leg.

Hopping back up to 3rd is...
3. Anne-Marie's Ninjas (MoD & maine )Overall Score: 110 | Detour Rank: #4 | Roadblock Rank: #4 | PAR Wars Rank: #2 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.8Detour Results:(Element Spawn)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I genuinely can find nothing wrong with this song. It's fantastic in every sense of the word (10)District: I love how expressive her voice is on this track. My favourite part is the 'la, da, da..." (9.4)Web: Pretty sure this was a first listen, liked the rising vocals/guitars into the chorus and the guitars slowly popping in throughout keep it fresh but felt like the song started dragging a little bit in the middle, ended up feeling like longer than 4 minutes, almost like the last ~2 minutes were a long fadeout that could have been cut in half. (7)Woods: (8.5)Overall Score: 34.9
Roadblock Results:(Sent by MoD)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I grew up on the Stones, this song in particular. It's one of my favorite tracks from this era (9.9)District: (9)Leo: (10)Trilogy: my favorite song by the doors (7.5)Overall Score: 36.4
PAR Wars Results:(The Light Side)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: One of the all time great chorus melodies (9.5)
District: a very nostalgic song, the instrumental is great here. love that outro especially! (8.9)
Shooter: I truly believe this is one of the best records of any genre and of all time. Flawless composition and execution. (10)
Fearless: The melody is so catchy and I love the contrast between the fun vibe of the song and its lyrical content. A super solid pop song. (9.5)
Overall Score: 37.9
Another leg, another consistent performance from the two of you! You'll get a +1 bonus next leg.

Holding steady is...
4. The Invisible Hand (Red & Sambalada )Overall Score: 109.9 | Detour Rank: #3 | Roadblock Rank: #1 | PAR Wars Rank: #6 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.0Detour Results:
(Element Spawn)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: When Madonna hits, there's few people that can make as good of a pop track as her (9.3)District: wait this was my favourite re-discovery, and might be my favourite Madonna track now lol. idk why this hasn't clicked before but this bops so hard! (9.7)Web: I've heard this before but it's been a while since I heard it in full, definitely catchy and like the shifts between the funky 80s hook and the almost gospel sounding vocal, and even though the song is 6 minutes it has so many slight instrumental changes with the bass sliding in and out that it doesn't end up endlessly repeating through the second half. Still could probably benefit from a little bit shaved off but it's better than I remembered the last time I heard this lmao (7.8)Woods: (8.2)Overall Score: 35
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Red)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: It's always bothered me that the iconic line is "very superstitious" when the song is called "superstition" (I know he says superstition later, but I feel like that's not the part every one knows!). That's really the only bad thing I can say about this masterpiece though (10)District: (9.3)Leo: (9.5)Trilogy: the horns in this make me horny (9.5)Overall Score: 38.3
PAR Wars Results:
(The Dark Side)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Looking back, I feel like I look on this as people in 2060 would if Tom MacDonald had a top 10 hit (0.8)
District: same initial thoughts as fearless. this was just.. no. (0.6)
Shooter: This walked so Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) could run. (3)
Fearless: So this didn’t start out bad, it’s just spoken word. Or so I thought. Then it just took a super sharp turn for the worst. Straight up trash and infuriating. And you’re telling me this was a #10 hit on the Hot 100? I don’t want to hear old people complain about today’s music being trash bye. (0)
Overall Score: 4.4 -> 35.6
You two have certainly proven yourselves as a contender, but you still haven't won a leg. Perhaps a +0.8 bonus next leg will help you accomplish that.

fwiw, with better production that doesn't sound like it was made in Guitar Pro, I genuinely think the Hello Kitty Suicide Club song wouldn't be awful and would be the best song of this Dark Side crop by default

Beautiful (9.9)District: phoebe bridgers rhsiuiufkhesageufihhdaiodhw (10)Web: I feel bad for whoever sent this because I've never really understood the big hype behind this song, it has a pleasant dreamy vibe that you can just drift off to but Phoebe's voice kind of fades into the background and doesn't end up grabbing me the way it seems to for so many people. It's not a bad song it's just nice but doesn't really go anywhere and I know based on how close all the scores usually are the 6 I'm giving this might end up sinking a team's chances this race so apologies in adv-oh it's I Know The End now? Fragile beginning into slow beautiful crescendo with horns into an overwhelming cathartic wall of noise - guess that's bullet dodged then lmao (9.4)Woods: (7)Overall Score: 36.3
Roadblock Results:(Sent by Ramona)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This isn't exactly a collaboration I'd expect, but Gorillaz have always been good at making an usual grouping of artists work well together (The Pink Phantom comes to mind as an example). (8.3)District: (9)Leo: (8)Trilogy: seeing mavis staples in the title reminded me of that vine where the guy finds staplers in staples then proceeds to run to dick's (7.3)Overall Score: 32.6
PAR Wars Results:(The Light Side)Overall Score:Nick: It definitely deserves all the hype it gets (8.7)
District: I'm still not too familiar with his Trilogy project but this is really good. (8.8)
Shooter: This was the Weeknd era where I was actually a fan and felt he was bringing something fresh and creative to the table; truly a lightning in a bottle moment. (9)
Fearless: Production is great on this one, but I also just don’t think it’s on the same level as the other four in how much I like it is probably the only justification I can give for the score here. (8.4)
Overall Score: 34.9
Thankfully, you two slipped less this time than the last time you were coming off a second place finish. You'll get a +0.6 bonus next leg.

(Element Spawn)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This is very much an Amy Winehouse song! Somewhat resentful lyrics, a jazzy background, and her unique vocal tone. It doesn't reinvent the wheel for her, but it's quite enjoyable nonetheless (8.7)District: (8.6)Web: Not super familiar with a lot of Amy Winehouse's discography outside of the big singles but the swagger on this song matches the horns very well. I like the simple instrumental bridge/break halfway through so when the vocals come back in without the drums for a bit it draws you in. Also shoutout to Nobelium for keeping us on theme. (8.3)Woods: (7.5)Overall Score: 33.1
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Jaden)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This is a perfectly serviceable country track. But like, there were plenty of good choices for this theme, and I don't really see why this is what you landed on. It's not even the best track for the theme from this artist (7.8)District: I actually really enjoyed this for what it was, it's very jolly and skippy! (8.8)Leo: (9.0)Trilogy: watch out for potholes (7.8)Overall Score: 33.4
PAR Wars Results:
(The Light Side)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This is simply a very fun pop track. Never a bad time to listen to this one (8.8)
District: the OG Kylie bop. stream Magic and Real Groove! (9.3)
Shooter: A modern Pop classic. I vividly remember living through this era and how iconic it felt then. Early 2000s Pop was such a time to be alive! (10)
Fearless: One of Kylie’s best songs, if not her best (I mean I love “Love at First Sight”, “On a Night Like This”, “Better the Devil You Know” etc. etc. but CGYOOMH is such a BOP). Love the production and the rather understated (relatively speaking for pop music) melody/singing style - together it makes for an addictive song with a low burn rate at least for me. (9.7)

7. Red Planets (BB🌕 & Fire )Overall Score: 103 | Detour Rank: #9 | Roadblock Rank: #5 | PAR Wars Rank: #4 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.4Detour Results:
(Oxymoron)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: The ultimate nighttime song. I love just staring out at the night stars with this song on in the background (9.8)District: a delicate and peaceful classic (8.8)Web: This might be a product of a song's style having been copied so many times by other artists that the original suffered but this track has never truly clicked with me. The close vocal harmonies are undeniably nice and there's definitely a tension from how sparse everything is but I feel like it's a little too wandering around in a medieval town sounding for me? I guess there's only so much of a build you can really push from an acoustic guitar and a few vocal tracks. At least the Disturbed dude really loved this song. (6.6) Woods: (6.5)Overall Score: 31.7
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by BB)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: It's not something I'll probably seek out a ton, but if I'm in a Stevie Wonder mood, this'll do the trick more often than not (8.4)District: (8.5)Leo: (8.8)Trilogy: oh so capitalism right? (8.2)Overall Score: 33.9
PAR Wars Results:
(The Light Side)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I have nothing bad to say about this song at all. From the instrumental to the vocals to the lyrics, everything works perfectly (10)
District: the instruments (I love the woodwind melody!) work really nicely with his tone, I love this (9.6)
Shooter: I do enjoy me some somber jangle pop every now and then. This checks all the right boxes. (8)
Fearless: I’m actually in the middle of checking out The Smiths’ discography right now! I haven’t gotten to The Queen Is Dead yet, but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve heard so far. I like some of the lyrical themes they tackle (which is present in this song too), and their instrumentation is often solid - it’s actually more than solid here, I love it. (9.4)
Overall Score: 37

The ominous intro and guitar tone really helps back up the longing vocals on this. Also love the buried heavier vocals on the later choruses and the way the drums so casually seem like they're about to fall off the beat most of the time but hold the song together. Fantastic choice. (Sent by Mylo)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: The guitars are pretty cool here. I always found it funny that this was worshipped as one the best songs ever, because like it's good and all, but I think that just shows an unwillingness to look beyond the biggest songs ever to find something you like (8.3)District: oops I love this. my parents played this a lot too lol. (9.2)Leo: (9.7)Trilogy: i won't forgive pulse for collectively deciding this was the best song ever in 2018 (6.5)Overall Score: 33.7

(The Dark Side)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: This was disgusting, but it at least had the decency to end quickly (0.8)
District: good riddance (0.5)
Shooter: Here's my issue: this is objectively the worst thing here by far but I can't help but think that whoever submitted a record with this title from an all-White grindcore band wasn't trying to make a statement; they were just trying to be clever, funny even. And, if that's the case, Don’t Offer Me Weak Drugs Or I'll Kick Your f**king Ass was right there. This display of density will not be forgotten. (7.0)
Fearless: So this is basically…. noise? Thank goodness it’s only 47 seconds long lol. (0.2)

You guys have been hanging on by a thread, and a third time at the bottom may not be so lucky for you guys. While you won't be receiving a bonus, you're still in the race! Hopefully you guys find yourselves out of the bottom two quickly.
Unfortunately being eliminated is...

(Element Spawn)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I hear this song and my entire face breaks out into a big smile. I find myself humming the chorus at random times throughout the day. It's simply a wonderful song (10)District: I love the call and response in the chorus, and overall it's a very memorable song. Loved this for a while now. (9.5)Web: Saying the production is very nice on this is probably an understatement and the harmonies are also on point, this has always firmly sat in the appreciate more than personally love category for me but no questioning its status as a classic. (The Dark Side)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: The beat is somewhat listenable in a you never actually want to listen to it sort of way but if you're forced to you can. The rest of the song absolutely is not listenable (0.3)
District: wait this beat though (1.5)
Shooter: Now this is the kind of absolutely stupid s**t that I can at least appreciate a bit for its tongue-in-cheek approach to problematic subject matter without using blatantly racist/sexist/transphobic slurs in getting its "point" across. (Plus this feels like it wasn't meant to be taken seriously whereas An*l C*nt seemed like they intentionally built a whole career off of being scum). (4)
Fearless: This is just hilariously bad (and transphobic) but honestly the most serviceable out of the four songs submitted imo. The beat sort of bops too lol. (0.9)
Overall Score: 6.7 -> 33.3
You two have had a crazy run, starting out stable in the middle of the pack and eventually landing a first place finish. However, you've had a rough couple of legs, and unfortunately the race finally ends for you here. All in all, a solid run. Thank you for playing!
