Kendra Jae is a singer-songwriter out of Sacramento that got her entertainment career started as a dancer, earning a coveted slot as the youngest dancer on Beyonce's Formation world tour followed by dancing for Drake and Migos' Three Migos world tour. In 2020, she started independently releasing music and got huge exposure earlier this year when Saweetie selected her song Seesaw for inclusion on her Pretty Summer Playlist compilation. This led to Kendra inking a deal with Def Jam imprint 10:22PM and releasing the song to radio in September (where it's currently top-15 on Urban).

I Deserve is the second single from Tank's tenth studio album, R&B Money, scheduled for release February 4th. The song notably includes a sample of his 2001 hit Maybe I Deserve and was created in response to fan outcry for him to re-record his first three albums, all released under the then-defunct Blackground Records, after JoJo had done the same. Per Tank, the song was recorded and scheduled for release long before Blackground announced its revival and re-release of their catalog this summer.
