you know me!  I went and checked out "Iced Tea" again and I do not hear what y'all are hearing. I like Kaytranussy's production but Joyce's vocals are not doing it for me, she sounds weak. Will watch out for whatever she puts out next, maybe it's this style that doesn't mesh well with her voice for me. I found "Cardboard Box" randomly in my YouTube recommendations when they dropped it and I was SOLD. can't wait for their next release. |

OOOOOh congratulations to both.
I love Joyce Wrice's Overgrown album (one of the best from last year). The new song "Iced Tea" is setting the bar even higher for her new project. This is a tasteful (no pun intended) tribute to the Kelis classic!

When I did my second listen-through, I moved Iced Tea up A LOT of spots into the Top 10, so I'm glad it did well. BUT DAMN, you all obliterated my top 5 before we even got to the Top 5. Kehlani got me to love a song with Bieber on it of all things! I've been spinning it non-stop since doing my ranking because it's such a breath of fresh air from all the tuneless midtempos with trap beats. It's also why I'm grateful to SHOOTER for introducing me to Syd and Tank & The Bangas through this series. [Sidenote: Syd is coming to Cleveland and I need tickets!!!!] Glad to see Cardboard Box at #2 though, it gave me turn-of-the-millennium girl group vibes in all the right ways. |
