I Deserve is the second single from Tank's tenth studio album, R&B Money, scheduled for release February 4th. The song notably includes a sample of his 2001 hit Maybe I Deserve and was created in response to fan outcry for him to re-record his first three albums, all released under the then-defunct Blackground Records, after JoJo had done the same. Per Tank, the song was recorded and scheduled for release long before Blackground announced its revival and re-release of their catalog this summer.

Honestly shocked by this. Doesn't even "deserve" to be ranked this terribly low. HIs song was actually good. I actually like it better than most of the top half of the list.

From L.A. via the DMV, King Sis got her start singing in her grandfather's church choir at the age of 7. After forming two gospel groups in her early teens, she relocated with her parents to Los Angeles and switched her focus to R&B. From there, she became a touring background vocalist for Kelela and eventually signed a deal with indie imprint Epidemic Sound in 2020. Her debut album, Ascension, was released in April 2021. All Love is not taken from the album but was written for use in the YouTube series Chasing Dallas.

Singer/songwriter/saxophonist extraordinaire Masego hails from Jamaica and has been making amazing music for years! He first gained attention for his Pink Polo EP (in collaboration with electronic producer Medasin) that dropped in 2015 under his own TrapHouseJazz label. A second EP soon followed and then his collaboration with French instrumentalist FKJ, Tadow, went viral in 2017 and led to a distribution deal for his debut album, Lady Lady, in 2018.

The exposure from that release led to a joint venture with Capitol and the release of the Studying Abroad: Extended Stay project in 2020 which just earned Masego his first Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album. Garden Party is not included on that project but is the first release from his sophomore album slated to drop next year.

Same tbh. But I like a few of her indie cuts as well so I’m hoping this was just a one-off for the TikTok crowd and she’ll resume serving up proper bops.

Orion Sun is a queer singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from New Jersey. Like many Black artists, she got her start in music via the church and was encouraged to become a Christian singer before her sexuality caused estrangement from her family and relocation to Philadelphia. Once there, she became part of an underground music collective called The Forest and started uploading solo material to YouTube. From there, her musical pursuits evolved into self-released singles, mixtapes and an eventual record deal with Mom+Pop who released her critically acclaimed debut album, Hold Space for Me, in January 2020. Concrete is the first taste of her sophomore album expected early next year.

"When I think about the song “Concrete,” there’s a lot that comes to mind. There are so many emotions that come to the surface when I respond to the thought train of all the moments that lead me to this point.
