now I don't know about "her best project since Pop 2" part but Pitchfork gives the new album an impressive 8.0:

The True Romance album and Boom Clap remain unmatched, but I have remained a fan because she is so interesting. Excited to hear the album tomorrow. Haven't heard any of the singles yet.

starts with an 81 on Metacritic. which puts it right below Pop 2's 84 and how I'm feeling now's 82, and right above Charli's 80. a very impressive 4-project streak.

Another solid pop album from her. She just never does it wrong.

Number 1 Angel remains her peak for me but this has quickly become one of my favorite albums of the year.
Zane remains insufferable but that was a pretty nice interview (considering I muted him as much as I could).

Down to a 78, which is still strong. Slant kinda slammed it. I am still excited to finally hear this later and also for the Zane interview. He brings out the best in all of his interviewees.

I'm kinda torn on this album. The way Charli deconstructs pop music and puts her own spin on it has always made her standout. And most of the time she rides that line of doing her own thing and still servicing accessible music. There's been a few times where she went a bit too left for me to fully enjoy (it's why I find Pop 2 beyond overrated, especially compared to Number 1 Angel). But this album is a tad too safe. Don't get me wrong, the whole thing is perfectly listenable, nice production, definite pop bops... but it just doesn't sound like a Charli XCX album to me.
She's been pretty up front about her intentions with this era, this is basically her "pop star" album. So it's definitely a fitting album in that sense. I just miss that edge she usually has.

Good Ones Lightning Yuck Crash Used to Know Me Move Me Baby
Am I the only one who thinks this is like her interpretation of Future Nostalgia??? She even sounds a bit like Dua on "Yuck" (by the way, it's screaming to be the next pop single). "Lightning" is my instant favorite new track for now.

This is really strong. No one delivers pop quite like Charli does. The woman is just so talented. It's the pop album I have always wanted her to make.
1. Good Ones (This is phenomenal. I can't believe I never heard it before.) 2. Every Rule 3. Move Me (Wow.) 4. Constant Repeat 5. Beg For You (Bop!) 6. New Shapes 7. Used To Know Me 8. Yuck 9. Lightning 10. Baby 11. Twice 12. Crash (weird that she opened the album with the weakest song and even titled the whole project after it, but OK)

I'm really enjoying it, but I get what you mean. I'm actually not fully into her more abrasive stuff, but there are maybe 2/3 tracks here where I think she could have gone bigger, less vanilla, and still had incredible pop songs. The length of some of the tracks bothers me a bit too. Listening to the Zane interview and I too find him insufferable (somebody said this somewhere!). The discussions are usually solid, but he talks about every single artist and album like they're the second coming and I find it so ridiculous. Artists do seem to feel very comfortable with him though and are pretty open/relaxed, which is a great skill in itself.

She's kind of fallen victim to the TikTok-length tracks, but in general this is much more listenable than her past works. I get the idea that this isn't as edgy, but the sound design on this record still screams Charli. There's this undercurrent of hyperpop and PC music that she flirted with her past few eras, and the latter is all over this album. What I think is most impressive, and it's a real show of her talent, is she kind of made an album that bridged the past 2.5 decades of music without it sounding like a complete fucking mess. So much is going on with this album sonically but it all works.
"Good Ones", "Constant Repeat", "Baby", and "Beg for You" (the September interpolation???) are the immediate standouts but she can choke for whatever the fuck she did with the "Lightning" chorus.

I didn't realize this has pretty strong physical sales!
It's currently #25 on Amazon's CDs & Vinyl chart.

She could’ve left the last song in the vault but the other three are solid. Wasn’t ready for the Saturday Love interpolation.

I swear to God, I hate the streaming era so much, lol. Such a middle finger to people who bought vinyls and CDs.
"Selfish Girl" is a keeper. "What You Think About Me" can get tossed. The other two are solid, nothing amazing.
