“Girl Next Door” should’ve been a #1 smash hit!!! What an iconic jam that is.

Maddie & Tae have proven to be one of those acts who can consistently do well on Pulse even when they don't do well on radio, so "Sierra" is a welcome member of the top 20 to most of us!! Like, I only had it in my 40s, but I am not at all disappointed to see it do so well. This song has another fun personality. The cutesy revenge of lines like "I hope that I'm around when you get knocked up or get knocked down" is delightful, and the hinting-at-swear-words-but-never-actually-saying-them is clever.
I don't think this was the best single choice (songs like "Waiting On A Plane" and "Smoke" were right there!!!), so I was not surprised to see it flop, but that doesn't mean it's not still a jam!

I always thought “Girl Next Door” would have been an awesome Terri Clark cut.
Love that one for Brandy though.

One of my favorite things Kenny has ever done, primarily because of P!nk. Love her voice and I love her

the hinting-at-swear-words-but-never-actually-saying-them is clever. How lol. They should have said it in the album version. Also can they go back to this style instead of being rowdy, please?

I always thought “Girl Next Door” would have been an awesome Terri Clark cut. Love that one for Brandy though. Okay, same!!!! And I almost pointed it out too, but I kinda figured if I did people would roll their eyes and be like "Of course you feel that way" 'cause I'm so predictable 😂 As great as Brandy's sassy energy is, Terri's is even sassier, and the personality of this song would have been perfect for her.

The hinting-at-swear-words-but-never-actually-saying-them is clever. Haha I like that part as well. In Canadian country music scene, Kristin Carter (was in 2019 RD) and The Reklaws both have songs called "Karma" and do the similar word-play, except that those two songs end by actually saying the swear word lol.

Out at #15, we are going to lose our first MULTI-#1 song!!!!! It tied with Kenny/P!nk, but ended up sneaking into the top 15 thanks to its MULTIPLE #1 ranks!!!!!!!!

"Reckless" was my OBSESSION back in 2016! The lyrics are so interesting, and the way that they unfold is so unique. It's like every single line is just peeling away another layer of the relationship that the narrator is describing, describing how reckless she is and the unconditional love and support that her partner gives her, until you finally get to the hook at the end of the chorus and you realize that the narrator's lover is actually the reckless one for deciding to put up with her. (I mean, it's not a big twisty reveal or anything, but I do like the way that it gets revealed.)
Not to mention that the melody is really catchy! I feel like Martina experimented with her sound a LOT for this song, so I can see that turning some people off, but there is something so fresh and unique about this one that I can't help but be drawn to. At the end of the day, when her career is over, I think it is safe to say that there will not be a single other song that is similar to this one.
Here's to hoping we get a new lead single in 2022 that I can be obsessed with again!!!! It's been SSOOOOOOOO long :'(

One more thing about "Reckless". I absolutely consider top 15 to be a win for this song I had no clue what to expect, but I never in a million years expected it to finish so close to the top 10, beating songs like "Next Boyfriend" and "Mayday" in the process!! I'm so happy!

I don't know if it's the Sam Hunt backing vocals, the mix of R&B (I still stand by that this has some R&B influence and I remember articles at the time saying it did) or Carrie Underwood sounding bored and on auto-pilot but "Heartbeat" has never done anything for me.

It's back-to-back top 3 losses for me, as "Heartbeat" is by far my favorite Carrie single of the last 5-6 years I can understand why this one tends to be a little overlooked, but I love it so much!!! Similar to "Reckless", I am thrilled to see this be in the top 15, as I would have also not been surprised to see it do a lot worse than that.

Ok but why Tim McGraw and Chris Young are still in this.
Heartbeat and Reckless probably will be higher in my list a few years ago. I am generally tired from "big vocals" nowadays.

Know this is a few reveals ago…but Next Boyfriend should have been huge. That it didn’t even make top 40 has always stunned me.

Just Like Them Horses is a late career gem by Reba (until the Stronger Than the Truth album was released). When she sang "When it's time to run" that way, you know s***'s gonna happen.

Reba McEntire's tribute to her father upon his death made a bit of a splash upon its release, hence its peaking at #37 on the HCS chart despite not making it onto the airplay chart. I remember the music video having a lot of hype behind it, as the black-and-white scenery from where Reba grew up, combined with the cameo from her mom, made for a really emotional experience. It was never quite able to reach the top 10, but it was at least a very consistent top 20 contender!

"Humble And Kind" was our #5 finisher last time around, but ended up barely even being a top 10 contender this time!!! It was still powerful, don't get me wrong; it floated around in the top 15, just outside of the top 10, for much of the submission window. Still, this represents a moderately substantial loss from last time around.
I feel like this is one of those songs that has been impacted by overplay. I know for me personally, I still groan a little bit when it comes on, despite being on the surface a really great song!
