I do not personally see a high ceiling for the stylistic fusion that is progressive nu-metal but this does reach it I guess

It's pretty cool how I found this song on the AAA I mainly follow, which I believe was the very first AAA on Mediabase to add this, before exploding to the hit that this is now. And glad that it did better than GOY on Billboard, at least, and there's a chance we can also rank this on alt later this year.
Condolences wrip

I didn't wanna jinx it but once I saw what the remaining 30 songs were, I had a feeling it would come down to either Be Sweet, Bed Head, and transparentsoul. I legit didn't think i'd get the top 3 right.
Thanks for hosting Daryl!

10. Down - St. Vincent I didn't find this one that enticing. Not bad though, and I'll probably upgrade it a bit on the actual YE RD. 9. Vertigo - Alice Merton Pretty good sophomore effort. Still rides on that mean bassline I liked her first two hits for. 8. Mars Simula - Chevelle I love loud music, but this isn't my melodic fire style of metal I enjoy. eh.. at least we got an actual metal song into the top 10. 7. Shy Away - twenty one pilots Yeah....I charted this too. It won't age well, but it sounds like one of their best. 6. Typhoons - Royal Blood It ain't no "I Only Lie When I Love You" but it has attitude. Also one of my favorite songs that actually charted in rock 2021. 5. The Angel of 8th Ave. - Gang of Youths Usually not my style of vocals, but I really dug the instrument arrangements here. The lead singer seems really confident in the music video and his delivery which does wonders for the song. It's catchy melodic fire that rides on a Killers melody. Can't possibly hear why alt passed on this one? Maybe if it featured a Travis Barker remix it might get a second chance. 4. Hush - The MarĂas Sounds better with each listen. Almost made my top 20. mean bassline works well with her vocals. What I could do without are the male backups. 3. Bed Head - Manchester Orchestra Another good one. I gotta say AAA totally slayed the Alt charts this year. 2.Transparent Soul - Willow f/ Travis Barker Still setteling into Willow's vocals, but not a bad fist top 10 for her. I like another one that features Avril Lavigne even more. 1. Be Sweet - Japanese Breakfast haha! I really never had a doubt this would win. This is an amazing win for all of us. For those wondering how I picked this winner ,and actually won this? You do realize this is the most 80's sounding song on the list with the most aesthetic high pitched vocals you could ask for. For once my impeccable, but sometimes intolerable taste in music prevails. True story: I submitted this RD early because "Making A Fire" is fast becoming my favorite charting song of the rock year, but I still dig this one more. You can also find both songs in my top 5 this week. This one one slot higher than the Foo Fighters. Great job to to our host at Daryl the Beryl for talling up the winners. hope this is a preview of what to expect at the end of the year.

I have no idea what people see in Be Sweet but honestly this entire top 10 was just absolutely filled with songs that were in the middle of my rankings so I can't even be disappointed OR satisfied. Truly purgatory...
Well it was still fun to participate either way! Thanks Daryl for organizing all this.

I tried this one but apparently, Pulse doesn't like long posts? Too bad, I'm trying again:
30. Stop Making This Hurt: Sadly, this Bleachers song needed something heavier to carry this song. Maybe some guitars?
28. Heat Above: Much like Heavy is the Crown, this one is growing on me some. Maybe it'll do better in the year end?
27. All My Favorite Songs: Outside of it sounding a bit much like Bittersweet Symphony, the biggest issue I have is that it sounds too upbeat for the subject the song is about.
25. Once in a Lifetime: Clearly, this is no Talking Heads cover. The chorus was fine here, but the verses were too messy to deal with.
24. Don't Back Down: Not as good as his previous hit (how could it be, it was a tribute to his recently passed father!), but it's solidly crafted and does show he's got some promise to his future. I think one artist is closer than he is, though.
23. Distorted Life Beam: Amid all the electronica this year, meet a group that managed to do it correctly. I got some Daft Punk sounds in this one.
22. Making a Fire: This was a solid song, as per usual with the Foos crew. Still would love to have gotten to rate No Son of Mine which might the best I've heard from them in a while.
21. Crawling Kingsnake: This song was full of snaky charms for me. The Black Keys never seem to get their due and although it's not their best, I hope it does better in the year ends.
19. Better Without You: Will agree that Lee's vocals were washed here. But it may be their best single since Call Me When You're Sober, so good on them to making it a top 10 hit at least.
17. Only Love Can Save Me Now: Maybe their best single from their current album? Outside of the title track, perhaps. And So It Went didn't resonate with me much outside of the chorus. That guitar solo just killed it for me, but this was solid all the way through.
16. Solar Power: Nice to see Lorde still can do good with her music. The vocals kind of picked things up in the second half, making for a better song.
15. Wait a Minute My Girl: And here's my number one. Short, furious song where everything clicks...lowkey, it almost sounds like 1950s rockabilly in places. Forget alternative, why wasn't this sent to pop stations? It'd been better than the MGK songs for sure.
14. Your Power: I hated Bad Guy. But since then, Eilish's music has clicked with me. The acoustic guitar here works well with her unplugged vocals leading to a pretty good song.
13. Mercy: And I think it's this artist that's poised to take off. Ayron Jones may have taken a while to get his career off the ground, but I think between the scorching guitar playing and his soulful vocals, it was time well spent. This song hit harder than when I first heard it as it was rising the charts.
12. Brando: Didn't hate this one. I just found it kind of there, frankly.
8. Mars Simula: I think I liked their previous one Self Destructor to this one. The chorus didn't quite soar to that one's heights, but it's still a solid song.
7. Shy Away: This one feels more mature than their biggest hits, like they found the right fit for them.
6. Typhoons: Dub-LOONS!
4. Hush: Speaking of Eilish, this one reminded me of her.
2. Transparent Soul: I guess I'm gonna be the first to bring up she was inspired by her mother, huh?
Yep, that's Jada Smith, Willow's mom, as the lead singer of Wicked Wisdom. Travis Barker contributes way better drums here than he did for Warrior. Willow offers some promise here and this tune was solid.
1. Be Sweet: Not surprised that it won. It looked like the sort of tune that would placate those who weren't into rock while not ticking off those who were. Kind of surprised it was Doc's number one (although songs like Fearless and Not This Time weren't up for contention). But it was a fine tune, anyway.
Thanks for hosting, Daryl!

Glad that Vertigo went out relatively early on in this set. Hopefully it doesn’t do as well in the YE rankdown. Pleasantly surprised with Hush making top 4! So happy to see one of my favorites do well. Be Sweet was kind of an expected winner, but it’s a really great one ❤️
Thanks for hosting Daryl!

I swear to God if the same song was in this list but it was labelled "<EDM producer> f/ CHVRCHES" instead of just "CHVRCHES", half of you would rank this 15 spots lower After enduring their singles from last era, this was a breath of fresh air. Also I am HERE for Jbrekkie finally getting the clout she deserves on Pulse after i was trying to push her music back in 2017
