I know this is about the hot 100 but stay is really the biggest song in the world this year. No. This is just wrong. Why? It's on course to become the fastest song in history to reach 1B streams on Spotify. It's the longest running Global 200 hit ever and seems to be going nowhere. It's still doing over 8M daily streams and not losing many streams weekly. It has reached #1 in 20 countries which is more than any song in 2021. Only Good 4 u is somewhat close with 16 countries. Stay seems to be the Closer of 2021. Massive hit later in the year that ends up being bigger than all the others. Don't know why it's so wrong to say Stay is the biggest worldwide hit of the year lol

I can see Stay spending 30+ weeks in the top 10 (something Drivers License never did). It'll definitely be the biggest hit of the year when it's all said and done (if it isn't already). I don't even like Stay but at this point, it's foolish for anyone to deny how huge of a hit it is.

Regardless, its still fun to see younger artists like Olivia, Kid Laroi and Lil Nas get the smash hits they deserve. This is definitely something that wouldnโt have happened just 5 years ago where we got 3 or more current artists that are around the 16-24 age range.

I mean, why do we have to choose one song, so far, you can make a case for at least 5 songs: DL, G4U, Stay, Levitating, SYT, maybe even Montero.

Since when does a song being talked about trump it's actual performance numbers-wise, though? Stay is the bigger hit globally and will end up being a bigger hit in the U.S. than DL. DL had the bigger peak in consumption and definitely had more of a cultural impact but since when have the charts been concerned with cultural impact? When it's all said and done, G4U will be a bigger hit than DL and Stay is well on it's way to being a bigger hit than both of those songs. I'd say the 2 biggest hits from 2021 will end up being Stay/Levitating but you're right in that there have been a number of huge hits this year.

Whatever the case may be for 2021, I am considering it the year of Gen Z.

STAY will no doubt be the biggest hit of this year though if it ends up as the defining hit of the 2021, we'll see.

I donโt know why I feel like โStayโ doesnโt feel like the big hit everyone is boasting it to be. Sure, itโs checking off the big numbers in the all the metrics. Itโs certainly a straight shot arrow into the bullseye. But something about its existence feels underwhelming or under the radar. Itโs certainly no โBlinding Lightsโ or even โLevitatingโ as far as itโs profile goes. Maybe Iโm the only one that feels this way. I just feel like the package doesnโt come with the star power/media relevancy of the other 2 songs I mentioned. And I get that Justin Bieber is technically the biggest pop star of the last decade, but again, this is just a side project for him and doesnโt even fit into his album cycle.

Bold prediction: Fancy Like will end up higher on Billboardโs all-time list than Stay and Levitating when itโs all said and done.

I think we get hits from time to time that are definitely big, even around the world, but dont elicit much conversation towards. Last year I feel like ROCKSTAR and Mood occupied a similar positions year. It had big numbers for months and they will end up high on Billboard's list but I kinda doubt they'd be the defining songs of 2020 when we look back at the year in like 5 years.

Out of all your failed predictions, this might be the most laughableย Country radio holds on to songs way too long. Even if it does not get an extended run at #1 (and this is a real possibility), FL is going to have the longevity of I Hope. I wouldnโt be surprised if FL is on the charts 20 weeks after Stayโs run ended.

In the real world that doesn't care what a Billboard is absolutely none of this matters anyway. Most people don't ask themselves "OMG, what felt like the defining song of 2013?"

Most people don't ask themselves "OMG, what felt like the defining song of 2013?" In the real world, people do think about, at the end of a year, oh what was the biggest song this year? But no, they don't use think omg, or defining, or 2013, but I never said they did.

Well there are year end countdowns - New Years Eve shows and parties. The year end ranking of the Hot 100 seems to be just chart nerds
"The defining song" of the year thing happens quite often here though
