surprised we didn’t rank No More Lonely Nights back in the 80s Quite a few McCartney 80's singles that I would have ranked much higher than these two: NMLN, My Brave Face, and Tug of War to name a few. Surprising that it looks like only 4 McCartney songs have been ranked so far in the Active and AAA rankdowns.

I usually fuck up really bad once on these rankdowns and realize later that something I tanked was really good. This time it's Driver's Seat for me.

Admittedly, I didn't really care that much for "And the Cradle Will Rock" but I did enjoy this one a fair deal. Their first top 20 on the Hot 100, the song was inspired by Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way". 29

The infamous line "it's better to burn out than to fade away" was taken from a song written by bandmate Jeff Blackburn while they were in the short-lived supergroup the Ducks. 26

26. Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) - Neil Young Who's great idea was it to release two versions of this song? This one only slightly better than the acoustic one, but the hook fails for me, so there really isn't much more to get from this song as this guy was always trying to speed up the grunge process onto radio. Unless we run into more songs by Neil(hoping we don't) I can honestly say "Cinnamon Girl" would be his best.

Now that I'm thinking back thethirdcurry your whole bottom 3 was a trainwreck I knew "Sniff 'n' the Tears" and "Chuck E's in Love" were going to be controversial tanks. The former track is very frustrating because - like the X songs in the last modern rock rankdown - it feels like a song I should like, but I just couldn't get into it. That being said, if I were to rerank from scratch, it could certainly go a good bit higher than I had it this round, maybe in the 70s or the bottom 60s. Guess I just really wasn't feeling it that weekend I was ironing out my list. "Chuck E's in Love," however, is just not my kind of music at all. Nothing objectively wrong with it - it's a nice bit of light-hearted, slightly jazzy singer-songwriter for those who enjoy that sort of thing - but it terms of personal preference, it was an easy bottom 10 for me.

Sorry folks, just started to catch up couple days ago! Sharing some thoughts on songs where my ranking differed the most from the final ranking 100 Crazy love (81): Although I’m not a huge fan of this type of rock, I found this song entertaining and melodic enough to escape my bottom 15. 98 Such a woman (31): This was actually one of my favorite discoveries. I liked the epicness of the instrumental, the layered vocals and the overall melody. Surprised it’s this low. 96 Sing for the day (45): I might’ve heard this just a couple of times before. With each listen for this RD I dug it and liked it more, despite its less conventional music. Interesting and prog but digestible enough to me. 93 I want to tell you (75): I didn’t recognize it as a cover. I had it in my 90s first, but I liked the guitar work a bit more with each listen. 92 Shakedown cruise (69): I guess I’m a sucker for this type of synth / guitar / drum combo. Pretty good discovery to me, even if the chorus was a bit too poppy. 91 What’s right (66): Another song where the instrumental made me like it more with each listen. Not a big fun of the vocal though. 86 Soul Man (67): I guess it’s time for a purge of my 60s… another song I didn’t know the original. I liked this cover anyway, but I may have over ranked it considering it was a cover. 82 Don't You Write Her Off (42): Very nice discovery. I really liked its calm beach/ sunset vibe, the vocals especially in the chorus, and the overall melody. It got stuck in my head after my first listen. 81 Precious Love (60): Another nice discovery. I thought it had a good but not overpowering disco influence. 80 Boom Boom (97): I didn’t get this one. It seemed more like a guitar break in a concert. The guitar work was great but the singing/melodic part took it down several notches. 75 Mirror Star (56): Good first listen. The chorus was especially cool. I felt it was a good combo of classicr 72 Dancing Fool (100): sorry but wtf is this? Maybe the lyrics are amazing? (I couldn’t tell) I found this ridiculous but not in a B52s melodic way. Too messy for me. Clear worst discovery in this rankdown. Surprised it wasn’t in the bottom 10 considering how stuff from BAD has fared here 71 Promises (52): I remember hearing this in the 80s. Very soothing melody and instrumental, nice for a drink looking at a sunset :) I also really like Marcella Detroit’s vocals -who also sang bg vocals in Eric’s Lay Down Sally and Wonderful Tonight, and of course excelled with Bananarama’s Siobhan Fahey as Shakespears Sisters. 69 One Last Kiss (37): A great discovery! I hadn’t heard TGB doing this kind of classic rock, and they did this very well. Peter’s vocals fit perfectly, the melody is timeless, and that bridge is fire. 68 Killer Cut (35): Another great discovery. I love this kind of energetic rock with nice (layered) vocals. Reminded me of ELO, Moody Blues with some of Queen. 67 Babe (13): Awwww. I assumed this was gonna be tanked. Still, this is a classic to me. A big hit in Peru that kept being played recurrently. I love Denise’s vocals and the melody. Lyrics may be a bit cheesy but I don’t mind some cheese once in a while, especially when it has strong attitude in instrumental and vocals like this one. 65 Heart of the Night (86): Huh? So this is not as cheesy or boring as Styx? How? I don’t dislike it but found it a bit too slow and monotonous especially for this list. Actually, I found Crazy Love much more interesting musically and vocally ::shrugs:: 64 Minute by Minute (95): Sorry to rank them so low, but this is not one of my favorites by DB and it stuck out like a sore thumb in this list to me. 63 Back on the Road Again (21): :( I thought the main issue with REO here was the more cheesy pop turn they made after this album, with Kevin Cronin in lead vocals. This was a very good rocker to me. I hadn’t heard this in a long time. First time I heard it was when my brother bought their Hits CD in the mid 90s.

26. Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) - Neil Young Who's great idea was it to release two versions of this song? It makes more sense on the Rust Never Sleeps LP, where the two tracks work as bookends for the album. They also serve as the A-side and B-side of the single.
