MoD: (6.0) Leaf: "Not liking this much more than I did back when I heard it in WTM lol. The production is basically the only thing that doesn't actively get on my nerves." (4.4) Beno: "This is fine but not mindblowing imo, the constant switchups in sound are pretty nice but this isn’t really something I’d tend to seek out" (6.5)

Trilogy and James are untucking backstage craving some critiques from the judges after all this time being safe. Meanwhile mayman is all “🥳🥳🥳 I got my second win” while gates, holding three wins, is side-eyeing, “👀 girl, you also had to lip sync for your life twice. Don’t go thinking you’re guaranteed final 4 or anything 🙄.”

BONUS CHALLENGE
Hello, contestants. 4 more people has been eliminated. I think it's time for some more bonus points farming! Like the one bonus challenge before, it's not mandatory and you won't lose anything by losing this challenge.
The challenge this time is to send a song where the Eiffel tower appears on the music video in some way. The music video obviously will be a factor on how I judge your submission. I will be the sole judge deciding who wins this challenge. The winner will get +5 bonus points added to their score next round, runner-up will get +3, and third place will get +1. Once you send a song, it is final and you can not change it.
You have until the song list for Round 9 is posted to participate in this challenge. Get sending guys!

An hour and 1/2 after the theme was posted, I asked about the availability of 4 songs. One was taken (I figured it would be), and the other 3 were "When The Sun Hits", "Vapour Trail", and "Heaven Or Las Vegas". My first choice was "When The Sun Hits", but I thought twice and switched. I'm shocked that none of those 3 songs showed up here in the end lol

A lovely beautiful tune."
Gosh: "I already like this song a lot but I never watched the video. And wow, some of the most captivating imagery I've ever seen. It truly elevates the song. Great submission."

== ROUND 9 - RESULTS ==Welcome to the ninth elimination ceremony. Today, one of you will be eliminated from the competition.
The FCO goes to...
TRILOGY!Beach House - "Myth"
This is your time! You finally escaped the SAFE zone after 7 rounds! Your song alone already did good enough and your bonus points helped push you to the win. You also received three perfect scores from the judges! Congratulations!
MoD: (9.7) Rom: "i was gonna put an image of that one fish from spongebob ascending here but my default browser switched from google to yahoo for literally no reason f**k yahoo" (10) Leaf: "This takes me places every time. Everything about it (especially the bridge and last minute) is otherworldly." (10) Tay: "This was SO lovely. It deserves more than one ten so I’m joining rom in the taste department." (10) Max: "I like this! In particular how the bass really brings it together. The vocals sound too 70s for me to really sink into the song. For some reason they make it sound off. It's like, at 44 seconds, when the bass kicks in, I'm all "yeah!" and then 46 seconds the vocals and I'm like, "huh." But overall I like it!" (8.2) Hamed: "Ngl I'm more of a fan of the song instrumentally and lyrically than vocally, no disrespect to Victoria since she sounds good. The lyricism is just so poignant and introspective it's great songwriting but I don't really see myself coming back to it much." (7.6) Twigs: "This song is amazing. I really love how the vocals sound on this song. I love how the production builds on top of the beat that runs throughout most of song, creates a really nice flow in the verses." (9.0) Wrip: "On the one hand, this isn’t as good as Space Song, but on the other this is still a really beautiful song. It still has that floating-like vibe to it that I have been loving from every Beach House song I’ve heard. Beach House also is one of the most defining artists of the dream pop genre so this definitely fits the theme." (9.0) TOTAL: 73.5 +5 Bonus = 78.5 | AVERAGE: 9.19
The second best is…
GATES!The Cranberries - "Linger"
You're pretty comfortably the highest score this round but the bonus points put Trilogy slightly ahead of you. And like him, you also received three perfect scores. These 5 consecutive top 2 appearances are amazing!
MoD: (9.2) Rom: "so he hired an irish singer, brittas marrying, brittas marrying, brittas marrying jeffrey winger (only based people will get this reference)" (8.7) Leaf: "This is just totally gorgeous from start to finish. Some nostalgia associated with this too which is even better." (10) Tay: "This band was never able to do wrong. EVER. RIP Dolores O’Riordan." (10) Max: "The Cranberries were one of my first fav bands when I was younger, and this song is seeped deep into my memory. I can't not give it full marks because it's pure 90s perfection." (10) Hamed: "Dolores's lush Irish accent just singing the word linger got me feeling some kind of way." (9.4) Twigs: "This is one of the songs I knew pretty well before listening to the playlist. I love the few The Cranberries songs I know and this is no exception. The vocals are incredible and unique. Such a relaxing, vibey song. Love it." (9.5) Wrip: "I personally love this song, it just sounds really pleasant which makes me feel happy. For some reason this doesn’t click with me as “dream pop”, though it appears it is classified as so, or at least on RYM. Only taking off like .1 of my actual score for this for that reason but regardless still a great song." (9.3) TOTAL: 76.1 +1 Bonus = 77.1 | AVERAGE: 9.51
The third best is…
MAYMAN!Mazzy Star - "Fade Into You"
We love to see the consistency shaping up. Congratulations!
MoD: (9.5) Rom: "..." (10) Leaf: "I remember once when I was at the record store I bought the album almost entirely for this song. I can listen to it for hours without tiring of it." (10) Tay: "OMFG I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!!! It was so beautiful! The vocal delivery at one point reminded me ever so slightly of Taylor Swift, which helps your case with me, lol, but I was also enchanted by that acoustic guitar playing in the background. Lovely, lovely song. I even added it to my playlist—the first time this season I’ve done that!!" (10) Max: "Pro tip: any song from 1994 I'm probably almost guaranteed to love because nostalgia 100%. This song totally takes me back to late 1994 (around this time of year) and tbh, it's when nostalgia hits hardest for me for 1994 in particular so... I'd probably give this a good rating anytime but right now, I'm on my 1994 nostalgia period" (9.6) Hamed: "Discovered this during the last Pulsevision and it was easily my favorite song I took away from that. Literally the stuff I can happily fall asleep and dream to in it's serene grace." (9.0) Twigs: "While I really really like this, it wasn’t as unique as the rest of the songs on the list. It’s still really good, it just didn’t really stand out for me, even though it was one of the few I already knew." (7.5) Wrip: "Don’t get me wrong, this is a good song, but like do I find it as great as everyone puts it out to be? Not really. It just doesn’t exactly feel like it goes anywhere, this doesn’t capture my attention in ways that other songs do." (7.3) TOTAL: 72.9 | AVERAGE: 9.11
Next…
LYHOMThe Sundays - "Goodbye"
MoD: (9.0) Rom: "love how this is the last song in the set. like oh yeah thanks for your time, goodbye! love you!" (7.6) Leaf: "I liked this even before this round, but it's grown on me a lot after relistening to it a couple times. I'm not convinced the Sundays can miss." (9.7) Tay: "Hey rom did you also notice that this song at the very end of the playlist called “Goodbye” is by a group called The SUNDAYS?! The end of the playlist, the end of the week?! you keep doing the jokes ur much better at it lol" (8.9) Max: "Very 90s. That's always a good thing." (8.5) Hamed: "The Saturdays outtalented I'll be honest this song is nice and I wouldn't mind hearing it like on a drive but I don't think it's one I'd actively ever seek out. Nothing about it really grabs me or particularly interests me but it's still a solid song." (7.0) Twigs: "This is probably my favourite song on the list. I love the vocals and how emotional they sound. The guitar at the end is also awesome. Not much more I can say about it, it’s just an incredible song." (9.5) Wrip: "Haven’t actually heard this before, though it’s quite good! I can’t tell if I’m the biggest fan of her voice, but regardless this is still good! The instrumental especially carries this. I could see this possibly growing on me more if I listened to it more" (8.5) TOTAL: 68.7 +3 Bonus = 71.7 | AVERAGE: 8.59
Next…
FILTHYThe Cure - "Just Like Heaven"
MoD: (9.7) Rom: "dinosaur jr outsold" (8.8) Leaf: "This has such an infectiously happy sound to it." (8.3) Tay: "This was quite lovely! The Cure have a lot of great music in their discography." (8.6) Max: "It's weird that my familiarization with this song is with a cover by smooth jazz singer Katie Melua, and I REALLY love her cover of it, but even still, hearing other versions of the song, it goes to show that it's the song itself that works, rather than who is doing it." (8.7) Hamed: "Wh have I yet to do a proper The Cure deep dive? I knew this one and yeah it's a bopppppp." (8.7) Twigs: "I really like the upbeat-ness of this song compared to the rest of the list. The lyrics are also pretty nice. Also a certified classic so that helps. However, I do prefer their other song on the list." (8.5) Wrip: "This song truly is just like heaven. It really makes me feel happy yet also sentimental in a way? It’s somewhat laid back yet still just so beautiful." (9.7) TOTAL: 71.0 | AVERAGE: 8.88
The last name to escape the bottom two is…
CRAPThe Cure - "Pictures Of You"
MoD: (9.5) Rom: "i feel like this gets sent for one round of literally every single music elimination game on here. almost every single time im judging. idk, maybe i dont get it, imo its good but it doesnt warrant being sent for literally every game here lol" (8.1) Leaf: "Has not unseated "Lullaby" as my favourite from the album, but it's really nice." (8.4) Tay: "Taylor Swift made me pay attention to long songs and I’m so glad I paid attention to this one. Everything about it was utterly captivating." (10) Max: "Why don't I know more songs by the cure?" (8.0) Hamed: "The lesser of the two Cure songs here I do start to feel the length of the song past the 4 minute mark but it doesn't detract too much from the song." (8.0) Twigs: "Probably has my favourite production on the whole list. I like how the best stays pretty similar throughout the song, it just emphasises the production changes and lyrics that happen on top of the beat. I love how glistening and bright it sounds at some points. The lyrics are nice here too as with the other The Cure song, I definitely prefer this one though." (9.0) Wrip: "Another nearly perfect song from The Cure, “Pictures Of You” has some really beautiful elements in its instrumental. I slightly prefer Robert’s voice in “Heaven” more than here, but that’s a small difference." (9.4) TOTAL: 70.4 | AVERAGE: 8.8
We're nearing the end game here. You need to do better than your usual performance if you still want to win this competition, and these past few weeks haven't shown me a performance of a winner. You are still in.
Which means the bottom two is…
JAMES & WILLAPTED

Moving on to the next round is…
WILLAPTEDJapanese Breakfast - "Road Head"
MoD: (8.7) Rom: "according to my drivers ed course, that just seems kinda unsafe... im not sure id like to be your passenger" (7.8) Leaf: "The (arpeggiating?) synths throughout the song are kinda neat and def help to add to the dreaminess." (7.6) Tay: "This was quite nice but there wasn’t as much that personally grabbed me, unfortunately. Not a terrible song by any means though!" (7.8) Max: "I think Japanese Breakfast is an artist who'd be right up my alley. With that said, the few songs I've heard from them haven't really done it for me. Maybe if I were the same me I was in 2004, they'd be perfect! (They did a concert in my city just before the pandemic too. I miss concerts :( ) Anyway, I really want to like this but there wasn't a lot to grab onto for me but I'm not going to tank it because I know it's me, not them, or you." (7.8) Hamed: "Never realized this was literally about giving meals on wheels but go off queen. It's chill and I like the lyricism about the falling out of a relationship and her attempt at saving it. I will say though the song feels kinda hollow and short and it hasn't really grown on me since I heard it back in I think a previous madness tourney or rankdown." (7.2) Twigs: "I haven’t actually listened to any full albums by the Japanese Breakfast oop. But each song I hear by them makes me love them even more, I really need to do a deep discog dive on them. Anyway this song might be one of the best I’ve heard from them. It’s definitely much more chill than most of the songs I know by them and Michelle’s vocals compliment that whole vibe well." (8.0) Wrip: "All of the songs I’ve heard from “Soft Sounds From Another Planet” have had such a beautiful instrumental to it, a trend in essentially every Japanese Breakfast song. I would have preferred to see “Diving Woman” get sent as that’s become an all-time favorite, but this is still really good. This definitely has a dreamy atmosphere to it that I appreciate." (9.2) TOTAL: 64.1 | AVERAGE: 8.01
Going from three consecutive HIGH placements to the bottom 2 is a pretty major slip up, and at this late in the competition, you can't afford to have more slip ups like this. Thank your lucky stars, you're safe.
Which means…
JAMES, I'm sorry, you have been eliminated.
Lo Moon - "Loveless"
MoD: (8.2) Rom: "this is a very 1991 song, from sharing a name with my bloody valentine's 1991 album "loveless" (1991) to sounding like a late 2010s indie version of talk talk, who released their 1991 album "laughing stock" (1991) in 1991. it has at least 1 song thats like as long as this" (7.4) Leaf: "That shaker(?) grated on me for some reason after a while and I'm not the biggest fan of the vocals, but I do like how grand the chorus sounds. also idc I'd take this over most of the mbv album" (7.2) Tay: "This one was a dud. No, I’m not attacking the song length; it genuinely was a dud. I couldn’t get into this one at all, unfortunately." (4.4) Max: "Yeah, this is pretty good." (8.6) Hamed: "now just who has got the This is my first time ever hearing a Lo Moon song and I'm impressed, I never felt the length of the song as it breezed through pretty fast and I enjoyed the song. It's a nice calming listen, perhaps I should add Lo Moon to the list of artists I'll one day do a deep dive for." (8.1) Twigs: "I’ve never heard of Lo Moon before but this song was an amazing introduction to them. The disconnect between the verses and the drop is amazing. I love the second half of the song especially. The overly reverbed production just creates such a cool atmosphere." (9.0) Wrip: "Props to the person who sent this for going with a less expected song choice. This is actually a first listen for me, and I don’t see it being my last either. This really fits the theme in my opinion." (8.7) TOTAL: 61.6 | AVERAGE: 7.7
You started this season at the bottom of the pack but it only took you a second for you to become one of the frontrunners, almost snatching the FCO quite a few times. Sadly you couldn't keep up that momentum and your run has to be cut here. Thank you for participating! :)

== ROUND 10 - RESULTS ==Welcome to the tenth elimination ceremony. Today, one of you will be eliminated from the competition.
This is a strong round but the competition must go on and one of you still has to go. For the second time this season, we have a TIE for first place. Tie is broken by highest individual score, and the person who gets the FCO this round is...
CRAP!Echo & The Bunnymen - "The Killing Moon"
Finally after what seems like YEARS of coasting, you have your own standout and WINNING moment. Two judges gave you a perfect 10 which pushed you ahead as this round's FCO. Congratulations, you're moving on to the top 6!
MoD: (10) Rom: "fate. up against the whale" (9.5) Leaf: (8.6) Tay: (10) Max: (8.6) James: "This was really solid. Not sure I have listened to this one from them, but “Lips Like Sugar” is an absolute banger. This wasn’t as good as that is because I think that song is damn near perfect, but this was really good. They’re a band I should check out more from." (8.3) Geo: "This has definitely been a slow grower over the past few years. A+ for the atmosphere and moodiness. In terms of the actual melody, I like it, but I still can't 100% click with it, and I'm not sure why. Something has always slightly bothered me about the rapid "twang-twang-twang"s after Ian sings "The Killing Time" in the verses, as if they kill (lol) some sort of mysterious momentum building up. Nevertheless, this is still a wonderfully written song, that will perhaps finally fully click eventually, because I already like it quite a bit." (8.3) Walt: "I’m a sucker for spooky, nocturnal, gothic 80’s alternative like this, the atmosphere the song creates is just incredible." (9.3) TOTAL: 72.6 | AVERAGE: 9.08
The second best is…
FILTHY!The Cure - "A Forest"
So so close to getting your second FCO this season. This is a great showing! Congratulations you're filling the second spot in the top 6.
MoD: (9.7) Rom: "vape naysh" (9.4) Leaf: (9.0) Tay: (8.5) Max: (8.9) James: "This was pretty solid. As far as The Cure songs, I prefer Just Like Heaven and Pictures of You to this, but as usual with The Cure, this was great." (8.0) Geo: "Descriptors: forest [...] But in all seriousness, the imagery this song invokes is nearly unparalleled. I feel like I'm anxiously running in the woods, trying to escape from something in the obscurity." (9.8) Walt: "I love the atmosphere that the guitars create on this one, the song as a whole has this desolate and haunted vibe (like a foggy forest at night) that really conects with me. An aside - I love how this managed to chart on the dance/club play charts here in the States." (9.3) TOTAL: 72.6 | AVERAGE: 9.08
Next…
TRILOGYU2 - "New Year's Day"
MoD: (8.7) Rom: "i definitely prefer sunday bloody sunday but hey. when u2 are good theyre great. but theyre not good all the time, this my ted talk on irish band u2 and why they're the most bipolar band ever. my first point- the edge. what a silly ass name. f**k people who add "the" to their stage names like god how pretentious can you be" (8.7) Leaf: (10) Tay: (9.5) Max: (8.2) James: "80s U2 is always great, and that doesn’t change with this. Outstanding song." (8.5) Geo: "Probably the best U2 song of all-time" (9.1) Walt: "I haven’t heard this song in God knows how long but the second I heard the piano, it came rushing back to me. I love the guitar solo near the 3.5 minute mark and how the keyboard melody weaves through the song." (9.1) TOTAL: 71.8 | AVERAGE: 8.98
Next…
GATESThe Walkmen - "The Rat"
MoD: (9.7) Rom: "OH s**t!!!! A RAT!!!!" (9.0) Leaf: (8.3) Tay: (9.3) Max: "This is awesome! I love it!" (9.2) James: "This song goes off. Super addicting song." (9.3) Geo: "I would love this even further if this had a better-than-average vocal performance, but the guitar shredding on this is absolutely incredible." (8.1) Walt: "Interesting that this was the only post-punk revival song sent, it’s got this really angry and chaotic (as a compliment, for the record) mood that feels to me like the swell of emotions you’d feel during a breakup / dealing with a dysfunctional relationship, definitely a super cathartic song and something I can see myself releasing some anger to." (8.6) TOTAL: 71.5 | AVERAGE: 8.94
The last name to escape the bottom two is…
LYHOMWire - "Ex-Lion Tamer"
MoD: (9.0) Rom: "someone looked at my lastfm and noticed i have 130 scrobbles for this. but why not send mannequin i have 220 scrobbles for that lol" (10) Leaf: (7.5) Tay: (8.4) Max: (8.4) James: "This was probably the weakest song of the set, and it was still pretty solid." (7.9) Geo: "This is actually the only song I didn't know from the list. Wire is one of those bands I actually don't know that much apart from "Outdoor Miner", the one from Gates' post-punk RD and some late career-hits, but this was very enjoyable in its simplicity. It takes you by the hand from the first few notes and doesn't let go for a second. Very enjoyable for a first listen." (8.5) Walt: "Love the guitars and the anthemic energy! There’s a couple moments the vocals didn’t really click with me and I do wish it were a tiny bit longer but that’s just nitpicking." (8.2) TOTAL: 67.9 | AVERAGE: 8.49
Being top 5 is no longer the top of the pack at this point. You need to pick up momentum again if you still want to win because you've been slowly sinking near the bottom lately. There's also quite a noticeable gap separating the bottom 3 and the rest of the group however for now, you're still in.
Which means the bottom two is…
MAYMAN & WILLAPTED

I probably should've just played to type and sent "Swamp Thing" but I've been hyper-vigilant against a possible Leaf tank since it's hard to predict, so I went with a band I at least knew Leaf had a positive history with and a song I knew MoD, Rom, and James loved

Moving on to the next round is…
MAYMANTelevision - "Marquee Moon"
MoD: (9.0) Rom: "id say the same comment i always do and say "woooow so bold of you to send a 10 minute song. woooow. wow. wow thats crazy" but im going to refrain. why? because this is the 2nd greatest song ever created lol" (10) Leaf: (7.5) Tay: (7.5) Max: (7.8) James: "10 minutes of pure awesomeness. Such a great song." (9.4) Geo: "This is a song I respect more than a song I truly appreciate. Not that its length itself is a problem, but I always seem to grow more and more disinterested with the main riff as the song progresses. As a result, I find the drumwork much more interesting than the guitar that goes from that same riff to progressive bombastic interludes that only leave me partially interested." (7.5) Walt: "Now just WHO has got the time for a ten minute song? Hey guys I said the funny line, you can laugh now uniqua In all seriousness this song is… an adventure for lack of a better word, the guitar work is obviously immaculate but the depictions of urban storytelling in the lyrics is also really poignant! the song is honestly a bit much for me to return to regularly, but as a standalone piece of music it’s incredible." (8.7) TOTAL: 67.4 | AVERAGE: 8.43
In every season you participated in, you held the record for the most bottom two in that season. It seems like you're on your way to that record again this time as now you've survived three bottom twos. I don't know how you did it, thank your lucky stars, you're moving on with the rest of the cast.
Which means…
WILLAPTED, I'm sorry, you have been eliminated.
Gang Of Four - "Damaged Goods"
MoD: (9.2) Rom: "amogus" (10) Leaf: (7.9) Tay: (6.2) Max: (6.8) James: "The guitar on this was fun. I know Gang of Four is kinda popular among the rock crew here, but this was straight up the first time I’ve ever listened to them before according to my last.fm. Solid little song." (8.0) Geo: "Yes, this is a banger." (9.0) Walt: "Love the almost deranged energy of the guitars here, I almost feel like this could be considered one of the first dance-punk songs?" (8.3) TOTAL: 65.4 | AVERAGE: 8.12
I really thought you would make it all the way to the end and your call-out supported that but you really had a hard crash and fall in the last two weeks. Sadly you have the lowest score this round and you have to be eliminated. Thank you for participating! :)
