So wow, surprised by some of the picks chosen but not gonna judge too much. Here's what would've been some of my choices: 3005 (Childish Gambino) Song 2 (Blur) Summer of '69 (the one good Bryan Adams song) 9 to 5 (Dolly Parton) 3am (Halsey) And as a song that could win or flop: 22 (Taylor Swift) I thought about these for quite a bit actually but went with my choice instead for the risky thrill of it

I will come burn down whoever tanks Jason Isbell so you have been warned.
And also "Disco 2000" is a bop

For round 1, I probably would have picked A Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash.
For Round 2, I'd be thinking 99 by Barns Courtney.

For round 1, I probably would have picked A Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash. Well, the prompt was "a song where its title is someone's name... and nothing else." I think "A Boy Named" qualifies as something else. :kii:

== ROUND 2 - RESULTS ==Welcome to the first elimination ceremony. By the end of today, only 14 of you will remain in the competition.
There was so much chaos happening during the submission period of this round, but anyways, everyone got their songs in the end. Interestingly, the winning song of the round is the one song that caused the most chaos, and it is…
FILTHY!The Smashing Pumpkins - "1979"
Luck is on your side this time, Filthy. Three people had tried to claim this song before you did but somehow all of them changed their minds and went with other options and in the end, the song ended up on you… and you won the round! Congratulations!
MoD: "I've rarely ever seen a song convey an emotion as accurately as 1979 with nostalgia. Everything about this feels beautiful, but I think the song speaks for itself." (9.7) Rom: "billy corgan rides a rollercoaster" (9.2) Leaf: "weeee— damn rom made the joke before me" (10) Tay: (8.3) Max: "On my list of 90s alt songs, this is definitely near the top. I'm not a huge Pumpkins fan by any means (though I did see them at one of their final shows before they broke up for the first time back in 2000 - I think this was the only song they did that I recognized...)." (9.5) CF72: "this is one my ex's favorite songs ever and... i kind of get it. it's a good song. that's all i'm going to say. we still talk so there's no bad blood that's affecting this rating. now im wondering why i even mentioned that." (6.9) TOTAL: 53.6 | AVERAGE: 8.93
The second best is…
JAMES!Phoenix - "1901"
The other song that appeared on everyone's submissions this round. Luckily you are the first person to send this song and you never budge! Making yourself jump from bottom 3 last round to the top 2. Keep it up!
MoD: "Probably one of the songs that make me the happiest. Not only because of the nostalgia, but also because everything on this song makes for an amazing pop song. I love the synths and the guitar has such an electrizing vibe to it, like the whole song can't go without it. And to top it off, one of the catchiest melodies ever, the song is such an earworm." (10) Rom: "in the battle of "those two songs that are somehow alternative dance, indie pop, indie rock, and like literally every other notable Groovy Rock Genre from 2004-2009 that everybody really likes" i think what you know has this beat" (7.9) Leaf: "Just really good all-around. Also I was shook when I found out the chorus was actually "Fold it" and not "Fallin'"" (8.4) Tay: "The beat and production to this was awesome!!! I was jamming along before I even knew it! This one hit all the right spots tbh." (10) Max: "I think this style of indie-pop was still fresh when this song came out so it kind of led the way for a (imo) really interesting genre of music that got burnt out really fast. It's cool!" (8.2) CF72: "this sounds very 2009 i love it" (8.3) TOTAL: 52.8 | AVERAGE: 8.8
The third best is…
HAMED!Sky Ferreira - "24 Hours"
I honestly wouldn't have thought you'd be on the top of the pack this round with this song and I was proven wrong! Congratulations!
MoD: "Ooh this is great. Love the explosiveness and the catchiness of the song. Pop done well." (8.5) Rom: "funny story; one time when i was doing preliminary stuff for my lifeguarding stuff at this pool/rec center place they played cut your hair by pavement, followed by you're not the one, then followed by this really terrible coutnry song about "spending a week at daytona drinking gold corona". this is not at all related to this song but this is really the only notable thought i have about sky ferreira bc i havent really jumped into her (very tiny) discography even though i should. i mean i guess this is more substantial than making a titty joke. now THAT'S unoringal ." (8.6) Leaf: "This is definitely my favourite discovery of this set. Parts of the melody reminded me of "Animal" by Miike Snow" (8.4) Tay: "Oh wow. Absolutely loved this to pieces!" (10) Max: "I remember seeing this album cover as part of year-end (or decade-end?) lists but I actually don't think I've heard anything from it. This song is a pleasant surprise! More pls" (9.3) CF72: "i get why almost every other pop singer trie to replicate this song for the remainder of the 2010s it's actually kind of good." (7.2) TOTAL: 52.0 | AVERAGE: 8.67
Next…
WILLAPTED!Snail Mail - "The 2nd Most Beautiful Girl In The World"
MoD: "This is a cool, nice song. I really like its vibe and her voice" (8.5) Rom: "damn if this is what being the 2nd most beautiful girl in the world is like i wonder what being the 1st is like" (7.8) Leaf: "hmm...I feel like I should like this more, but it doesn't really grab me." (6.9) Tay: (9.1) Max: "This kind of music tends to be hit-or-miss for me, but I like this enough to call it a hit. Good tune!" (7.9) CF72: "arf arf woof woof bark bark grown growl snarl snarl" (10) TOTAL: 50.2 | AVERAGE: 8.37
Next…
SAMO!Pulp - "Disco 2000"
MoD: "Lovely song, I love the little textures on the instrumental, the song has a kinf of magical feeling lol." (9.0) Rom: "my name isnt deborah" (7.8) Leaf: "This was pretty enjoyable, from the danciness of the instrumental to the storytelling." (7.9) Tay: (8.5) Max: "I think I vaguely remember this but I also remember not being big into Brit-pop/rock at the turn of the century so tbh, I would have tuned this out anyway. Listening to this today, yeah, it's not bad at all." (7.2) CF72: "bonkers the s**t jarvis got away with in the 90s. if anyone else did this, it'd probably suck ass" (8.6) TOTAL: 49.0 | AVERAGE: 8.17
Next…
GATES!Sneaker Pimps - "6 Underground (Nelle Hopper Mix)"
MoD: "Really solid song, the way they are able to go from trip hop to a more fast paced, with more alt rock influences part is really cool. Only complain is her voice, clearly great, but It's not the best suit for this kind of songs imo." (8.2) Rom: "while nothing beats running people over in gta v while 1 thing plays, this is a close second. like yeah. yeah bitch. ill take you 6 underground. its called vehicular manslaughter" (9.1) Leaf: "honestly, I like the album version much more since it sounds more...dreary and cold to me, but I can't rate this too low since they're both amazing and luckily not that different." (8.8) Tay: (8.5) Max: "I feel like this was submitted for me specifically...! Trip-hop with an acoustic flair is honestly the best blend to me. There are songs by Beth Orten, Esthero, and others that are just so good because they mix these two together and this is another great example!" (9.1) CF72: "kind of lame imo. like the ambienty parts are cool but everything else just sounds painfully lame and tacky." (5.0) TOTAL: 48.7 | AVERAGE: 8.12
Next…
CRAP!Amerie - "1 Thing"
MoD: "I've always really liked this song, I don't know why but it just makes me so happy to listen to it. Love the harmonies and her voice on this song." (8.7) Rom: "nothing beats running people over in gta v while this song plays. "its this one thing that you did" yes its called vehicular manslaughter amerie" (9.0) Leaf: "A complete jam. Pretty sure this is actually one of the first songs I ever downloaded on LimeWire :kii:" (9.7) Tay: "The hook was nice, I guess? Nice vocals too, I just think it’s all over the place and really didn’t grab me. Sorry :/" (5.0) Max: "This song used to play nearly every time I went clubbing as a young(er) gay so the nostalgia itself gives it an immediate pass! Amerie did this song better than most of the girls did theirs around this time. *gobble gobble gobble*" (8.8) CF72: "good instrumental but the vocals don't do much to me. a little bit too much inflection maybe???" (6.7) TOTAL: 47.9 | AVERAGE: 7.98
Next…
LYHOM!Noname feat. Phoelix - "Song 31"
MoD: "Noname is so underrated. Love her delivery on here, great lyricism as usual. And Phoelix's harmonies and chorus are f**king great, really good track all around." (9.2) Rom: "i think i prefer song 32 but this song still slaps nevertheless" (8.3) Leaf: "Wasn't crazy about the chorus, although the jazzy instrumental was pleasant." (7.0) Tay: "The groove! The flow of the verses! The verses themselves! Whew!!!" (9.5) Max: "I like the music but the song itself didn't really hit me as much." (6.6) CF72: "out of the songs to be song thirty one this is definitely one" (7.0) TOTAL: 47.6 | AVERAGE: 7.93
Next…
TRILOGY!Feist - "1234"
MoD: "Cute song! I really like her voice, specially during the chorus." (8.2) Rom: "i think this is pretty much what everyone thinks of when they think of "grammy-core indie folk pop". i mean its a good song to base that standard off of i cant complain" (7.2) Leaf: "I've loved Feist since I was like 9 or 10. The Reminder was one of the first albums I got, and when she won five Juno awards in one night, I put the picture of her holding all of them in my signature on this Club Penguin forum I posted on at the time lmao" (10) Tay: "Ah, here we go! This song has such a nice groove and beat to it. The slight country sensibilities certainly helped!! 😉 I absolutely loved the instrumental towards the end, and the singer’s voice is really nice." (9.5) Max: "I know this song was a big sensation and Feist's biggest hit but when it came out, I thought it was very plain, particularly in comparison to some of the songs from her first album. It's kind of disappointing it became her signature song because nearly every single she's done before and then is better. Still, it's fun to sing-along to when it comes on." (6.1) CF72: "1 2 3 4 i feel like i should like this more" (6.0) TOTAL: 47.0 | AVERAGE: 7.83
Next…
RECORDYEAR!Jason Isbell - "24 Frames"
MoD: "It's a nice song, but as with most of Jason Isbell's stuff, I fail to make much more out of it." (7.0) Rom: "hey wait a minute... 24 frames per second is the speed of american film... hey! jason isbell! you POSER! you are NOT a movie! you are jason isbell!" (7.9) Leaf: "okay, I actually like this a lot more than I realized upon relistening to it for this round. I think the instrumental and melody work great here." (8.4) Tay: "Country music is such an acquired taste sometimes. This song is so beautiful, both melodically and lyrically. Absolutely loved this, and I have loved everything I have ever heard from Jason Isbell." (10) Max: "One of my future ideas for a tattoo contains a lyric from a Jason Isbell song. Not this one, but a different one. This song is also very pleasant. I could listen to music like this all day every day (I already kind of do)." (8.4) CF72: "legit nothing about this stands out to me. if i had to say the chorus is relatively well written." (5.2) TOTAL: 46.9 | AVERAGE: 7.82
Next…
MAYMAN!Interpol - "Obstacle 1"
MoD: "I still remember the first time I listened to this song. I was hypnotized. I don't know what it was, maybe the fantastic bassline, maybe the flawless guitars and the way the go together, maybe Paul Banks' performance, which felt so real, but something about it made me go back to it over and over and over again. And now here I am, more than 2 years later, still being as captivated by it as I was when I first listened to it. And I still don't know what it is, but this has become not only my most listened song according to last.fm, but also the song I can rely on the most. Because during every one of my important experiences, this song has been there for me, if I'm feeling really down or if I'm having the best day of my life, this track just fits like no other. I might just call it the most important song of these past few years, and while other songs may get the same score, this one is on a league of its own, one of my favorite pieces of music I've ever had the pleasure of listening. Thank you, Interpol." (10) Rom: "this song is nice. wildly overrated? yes. its nice though" (7.2) Leaf: Paul Banks's vocals have always grated on me, but I've kind of warmed up to them over time, and they're tolerable enough here." (7.4) Tay: (7.6) Max: "Yep, this is it!" (8.5) CF72: "all 2000s post punk songs sound the same to me and i wish that wasn't the case." (5.7) TOTAL: 46.4 | AVERAGE: 7.73
Next…
WHEAT!Yvette Young - "A Map A String A Light, Part 2"
MoD: "Quite pleasant, but a little bit boring. I really doubt I'd go out of my way to listen to it. Really nice guitars, though I wished the track had evolved at any point." (6.2) Rom: "this is the second of two songs by artists i was previously unaware of before doing this judging. its also good" (7.6) Leaf: "I think this is the song I felt most conflicted about. I mean, it's fairly relaxing and the vocals are pretty, but there's something about them that I can't put my finger on that felt a bit offputting." (6.8) Tay: "Oh my…this song is enchanting. I found myself completely transfixed, and when I closed my eyes, I found myself transported into such a lush, calming, magical world where everything was beautiful and perfect and everything was *good*. Moved me to tears, actually. That’s the beauty of music. This song is magic, and it’ll hold a special place in my heart, so thank you to whoever sent this. If I could give a score higher than 10, I would in a heartbeat!!!" (10) Max: "This type of song is right up my alley but probably with a more dynamic vocalist. Not that she's a bad singer by any means. Her voice is well suited for folk and this is pretty folky (and pretty) but it could use a bit more oomph I think." (7.2) CF72: "songs restaurants play at 40% volume as you eat f**kin uhhhh uhuhhhhhhhhuhhhuhuhuhhuhuhuhuhhhhhhhhhh food?" (5.0) TOTAL: 42.8 | AVERAGE: 7.13
The last name to escape the bottom two is…
GP!Tei Shi - "Die 4 Ur Love"
MoD: "Catchy enough to make me like it but unremarkable enough to not make me want to listen to it again." (6.0) Rom: "this is the first of two songs by artists i was previously unaware of before doing this judging. its good" (7.3) Leaf: "This is cute but it felt kind of overly polished and I was waiting for something big to happen in it." (6.6) Tay: "Oooh, everything about this was really lovely! Production, melody, hook, vocals, background vocals, lyrics, all superb!" (10) Max: "I wasn't sure if I'd like this when I started it, but it's a decent pop song, though I wasn't too keen on the chorus. Feels like the melody should be stronger or at least less plain sounding." (6.5) CF72: "what am i doing in an establishment belonging to popular fast fashion chain H&M at this time of the night and how did i get here." (4.9) TOTAL: 41.3 | AVERAGE: 6.88
Which means the bottom two is…

so I immediately thought of sending obstacle 1, didn't send it because I thought it would've been too obvious, got more and more worried that my slight risk would've gotten me into the bottom two, and it turns out that song 31 finished above obstacle 1 anyways so there was nothing for me to worry about lmao

1979 was legit gonna be my first choice, but yeah, I did want to stick with my own guns this time. Kinda shocked though since I was skeptical. Also I swear to god I didn’t know it was a bolded track for the three letter music site.
Also Obstacle 1 sounding the same as everything else? Hell no

I was aware it was acclaimed from not just that site, but I swear to god, seeing how it barely made the top 30 in the 05 RD was what got me skeptical.

Moving on to the next round is…
BENO!Azealia Banks feat. Lazy Jay - "212"
MoD: "Such a great song lmao. The drums are so f**king good and I love the explosiveness of her delivery. Amazing production as well." (9.2) Rom: "the bridge. The bridge. The. Bridge. unfortunately this song isnt entirely bridge so i cant rate it too high but still. the bridge" (7.7) Leaf: "This has some nice elements to it but overall I just found it more irritating than anything." (5.7) Tay: "Lol, I absolutely hated this, sorry. It completely failed to grab me in any way." (1.0) Max: "I won't lie, I've never heard an Azaelia Banks song before that I know of. Even still, this is kinda hot! If I ever get to go back to a club, I'd want this on!" (8.0) CF72: "azealia banks the type of mf to f**king give other people the cheese touch by throwing the cheese at them, terrifying the other children and forever making her the alpha bitch" (7.5) TOTAL: 39.1 | AVERAGE: 6.52
Well you had a chance to use any of the top 2 songs but you missed it. Still you are able to survive this one. Congratulations!
Which means…
SHOOTER, I'm sorry, you have been eliminated.
Kimbra - "90s Music"
MoD: "Definetely an interesting song, it has some intriguing passages, but overall I'm still not sold out on this type of glitch pop." (5.5) Rom: "hey KIMBRA. ive got some BAD NEWS. this song was released in 2014. GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (in seriousness this song did grate on me a little bit sorry to whoever sent this and all my other judges who enjoyed this song)" (6.4) Leaf: "I don't really like this as much as her other songs I know, but you can't go too wrong with Kimbra." (7.1) Tay: "The beat to this was nice, but tbh this started to get more irritating than anything towards the end." (4.8) Max: "I really put effort into liking Kimbra, from the Settle Down EP and Vows, to The Golden Echo (which features this song), but she never became a staple for me. I liked this one well enough when it came out, and listening to it again, it's cool but not really moving me." (6.5) CF72: "this walked so vroom vroom can run and boy did it run" (4.6) TOTAL: 34.9 | AVERAGE: 5.82

Yay my first and unexpected top 3 placement of the season, glad that it was a pleasant discovery for the judges .
I most certainly recommend that entire album to anyone interested by 24 Hours, definitely one of my favorites of the year. My top favorite from her is this bop included in Rom's story lol, it's the song I also discovered her with too.

Ah, @chartf**ker72, a loser as a contestant and a judge. The brighter they shine, the harder they fall, most truly jeez u dont have to rub it in Oh how I wish you were correct. But unfortunately I am physically incapable of not rubbing it in. It's a tragic story: I made a deal in my youth with an evil wizard for better school grades, and in exchange I swore a life oath to "rub so hard motherfu ckers wanna find me". Please understand I incur as much pain as I inflict

Ooh, I've been low 2/2 for now, I gotta step it up. And I will!
Anyway, this round is actually very exciting for me. I'm dating a Canadian! That talks about Canadian music a lot, so I'm kinda excited to pick one out for this round.
Not saying I'm going to pick this, but I do just want to say that Top 15s "Burger King Foot Lettuce" Chills is Canadian as well as a musical artiste. So, look out is all I'm saying.
Also, I just wanna mention that the only reason that I know that Chills is Canadian is because he filmed this iconic music video in downtown Calgary, which I visited in August, and I fuckin, saw the iconic Chills landmarks. The big wire face was there! We drove over the big bridge! I ate in the iconic Silver Dragon Restaurant in the background. Honestly, incredible.
I'm excited I get to do this round.
