Adele is going to have more than double the streams of Bad Habit and the radio lead and about even with airplay, so how high are his sales supposed to be for him to be number one? Easy On Me is going to probably do around 24 million streams this week. Bad Habits is going to probably do around 16 million streams this week. Habits would only need to sell about 30k~ physical copies to cancel the streaming lead. I'm actually wondering if they're possibly overestimating the physical sales though. I didn't think Ed had enough big fans willing to make him sell 30k~ physical CDs. Even his album is only doing 80k~ pure so. I'm not sure his album even had 30k~ preorders, let alone a Bad Habits CD version.

Just as expected, those numbers for Sheeran are terrible It is somewhat disappointing, and despite what has been said earlier, Ed has actually been quite strong in streaming over previous years, especially for a non-hip-hop act and with his biggest hits such as Thinking Out Loud, Shape Of You, and Perfect, and Divide actually opened with 135 million streams, so the argument of "well he was never really strong in streaming" can't really be used. His career has far from completely crashed though, as of course Bad Habits and Shivers are solid hit singles and the album might go on to have some longevity. It could have been worse imo, as with the slight downturn of No. 6 Collaborations Project and the failure of Afterglow last year (yes those were just side projects), but it seemed as if they were indicators that his career might come to a complete halt, which hasn't happened, so I'm glad he's holding up decently well 10 years into his career! As i've said before in a different thread, Ed is a GP oriented artist, like Katy Perry was. They don't have a big fanbase and the moment GP is done with him, his career will take another route. Unlike Katy, he might have score hit singles from time to time but he won't have the guaranteed the sales or streams like Adele or Drake has.

Would SNL performance have softened the second week drop for Ed?

If completely abolishing sales from the formula isn't the answer, then they should give us a separate chart based solely on airplay and streaming, NO sales. It would do a much better job accurately determining the true most popular songs

Would SNL performance have softened the second week drop for Ed? I'd imagine it very much would.

Is The Weeknd aiming at the highest number of singles ever released during one year or what?

If Summer Walker opens higher than Ed Sheeran, then that is just straight up embarrassing

RIP RollingStone 100
RIP transparency
Spotify Charts are next to go I guess? I hope not.
Rooting for Talk of the Charts. Now I'm curious about how long the accurate chart predictions will go on for. Of course, it seems like it'll die by the end of the year.

Is The Weeknd aiming at the highest number of singles ever released during one year or what? Weeknd wouldn't even be top 10 or maybe even Top 20 lmao. There've been more artists who've released more singles in one year

I mean just recently Remi Wolf released 9 singles this year, Charli XCX released 11 in 2019, Hayley Williams had 7 last year, and most trap acts release a bunch every year.

He isn't credited on Hurricane, so that is debatable, but he is the only reason why Better Believe even charted.
We've had: Save Your Tears (remix)* Over Now You Right* Better Believe Take My Breath* Moth to a Flame* And the new one with Post Malone
*still relevant on radio
I mean I like him, but boy this campaign wayyy oversaturated.

The question wasn't how many hits, the question was how many singles I would count features that he happens to appear on, and that have been pushed to radio as well as playlisted on streaming. If someone releases ten singles but no one aside from a handful of stans even knows that they exist, that's like Buckethead releasing another album.

Post’s last non-album collabs have all straight flopped or been duds that ultimately died (I Did It, Life’s A Mess II, Wolves, Tommy Lee, Writing on the Wall, etc) and so have Weeknd’s (Hurricane, Better Believe, Over Now, Hawai, Smile, even You Right has less total streams than multiple Planet Her album tracks despite strong push).
A song from them definitely seems like it’d be a hit on paper and the expectations would definitely be high but I wouldn’t even be surprised if it pulled an End Game/Monster/Stuck With U/Can’t Remember to Forget You/Walk On Water.

Personal preference then since I never count any features as single releases from an act and I am one of those weirdo stans who looks at stuff that doesn't chart.

Post and Abel simply don't perform as strongly when they aren't in album mode. Heartless and Goodbyes (the lead singles) both underperformed in relation to how their previous singles did, but the came Circles and Blinding Lights and both beat the top 10 longevity record. The best examples are Take My Breath (which did at least become a medium-sized, though it was nowhere near the literal biggest hit of all time) and Motley Crue (a complete flop, originally marketed as a lead single, now treated as a stand-alone throwaway).
I think that that comes from the fact their fanbases are very diverse. Post appeals to a wide demographic ranging from soccer moms, through rock and pop listeners, to the hip-hop crowd and even young kids. Abel attracts mainly hip-hop fans (while being a pop-R&B artist), with a sizeable chunk of his audience being pop fans, R&B listeners and slightly older millenials who discovered him early on.
As such, they can mobilize their entire fanbases only when they release new albums, which later attracts attention from other sources, because, as is, they simply attract people with too vastly varying listening habits to make them all check out their music right when it's released, and without that monstrous push that acts with one core audience like Drake, Olivia or Ariana can rely on, they need stability for their songs to actually catch on.
But that's a double-edged sword, because when their songs do catch on, they almost literally never die and become superhits like Blinding Lights, Save Your Tears, Circles or Sunflower because everyone listens to them
