taylor genuinely confuses me all the time, "exile" not being the single off folklore is still ridiculous considering its still charting on spotify & is more radio-friendly than cardigan but all too well not even getting a lick of radio play might be the stupidest move her team has ever done. it feels like for the first time in a while taylor has a true HIT and is completely fumbling the bag with it

I think it's just so that she promotes of her new songs from the vault. I mean technically, All Too Well is 9 years old and seeing it is a 10 minute song, it'll be a miracle if pop radio touches it. I don't agree with them not pushing it to some radio formats but I do understand why there isn't too much of a push.

IMO, the "radio isn't going to play a 10-minute song" point is moot when there's literally a second 5-minute version already in existence that can also be edited down. It doesn't even have to be edited down much at all. Radio is still willing to play longer hits given a high demand. "drivers license" is 4 minutes long and was an airplay hit. All the other points stand and I completely agree with them, but the length one's a reach.

If enough Red tracks chart at the high end, there’s a good possibility that Levitating will get pushed out of the top 25, and therefore right off the chart.
And, unlike Blinding Lights, I don’t think it will be eligible to return. BL recharged due to a combination of post-Xmas airplay and year-end sales but Dua has neither of those benefits. The Nov 20 chart, released today may be its last appearance.

maybe she tried with Reputation. Sometimes I think LWYMMD was a blessing and curse. It fired up the base, but did harm with her standing with the general public. I guess "stopped trying to have hits" is just a way to look cool after a streak of flops, so it's best to pretend you don't care anymore - just like Beyoncé did. Then it gives the impression that you're not having hits because you don't want them, and not because you were already not having hits quite before that.

Even that I'd disagree with you, as she actually tried very hard with Cardigan and Willow to secure their #1 debuts with releasing multiple versions and discounts last minute, etc., and they were both pushed to Pop and AC radio. Now that we're on this subject actually, it is bothering me a little bit that we are ok with Taylor releasing multiple versions last minute to get the #1, because while it's not to the same degree as BTS and ARMY, it's still along those lines. Just because it's with an artist and song we like, it's still crass and shady, and it is not ok. This is what they criticized us for. Just wanted to point that out.

Having said that though, I was wondering why they wouldn't push All Too Well at radio, it's not entirely radio-unfriendly. I could see it doing well at AC/Hot AC/Triple A, which I think Cardigan and Willow were fairly successful at, and the fact that the song is almost 10 years old doesn't matter because most people probably don't know it exists, I didn't until a few months ago! I just listened to Message in a Bottle though which is also a very, very good choice, but if it were me I would wait till after the New Year to see if there's any radio prospects for ATW, since there seems to be such high demand for it.

My guess is that they had no idea ATW was going to pop off THIS hard. Like, obviously it was a shrewd move to make this fan favorite the centerpiece of promotion but with radio being as fickle with Taylor as they have been, they probably thought it best to release a new song that simply has more appeal on the format. They maybe did not think that getting 5-10 mil in radio play opening week could be the difference between number one and number two.

Considering she released Wildest Dreams (TV) when it went a bit viral at much lower level than what Enchanted is currently experiencing, the only reason I can think of on why she hasn't already released Enchanted (TV) was because she wants this week to be fully focused on Red (TV) and held it off for either this Friday or next week's Friday (most likely next week, I think, once the Adelepocalypse's first week passed)

Has she finished recording all of her versions? I do think the focus on Red is a main reason, but is it also possible the TV of "Enchanted" hasn't been finished?

Honestly, even if All Too Well has no longevity, I don’t have much of a problem with it being number one. It’s going to be the most streamed song this week which shows that there is at least some GP support, unlike the sales driven number ones. Plus, it’ll be a very fun story about how a 10 minute remake of a 9 year old album cut topped the charts.

Yes, it was actually previewed in a trailer for the animated Spirit movie and went viral when fans found out which is why she released it. I wouldn't be surprised if "Enchanted" TV comes out next week. They're leaving money on the table by allowing the old one to thrive. She dropped WD TV when it was going viral but it wasn't even close to what "Enchanted" is doing right now. If it's ready to drop they're probably avoiding this week to give RED the spotlight.
