For the week where Kate Bush came back strong - Jun 11, 2022 - here's how things may look on the top 100 of the year. As per my estimations, Stay should overtake Easy On Me for the silver medal on the year end next week. The predictive chart goes out 20 weeks currently but in 3 weeks that will reduce as we are only that far from the Billboard year-end. Here's how that looks now: EST Year end | Song | Artist | YE Est Pts | 1 | Heat Waves | Glass Animals | 11321 | 2 | Stay | The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber | 10007 | 3 | As It Was | Harry Styles | 9356 | 4 | Easy On Me | Adele | 7889 | 5 | First Class | Jack Harlow | 7375 | 6 | Super Gremlin | Kodak Black | 6951 | 7 | Big Energy | Latto | 6927 | 8 | Bad Habits | Ed Sheeran | 6679 | 9 | Ghost | Justin Bieber | 6676 | 10 | Shivers | Ed Sheeran | 6546 | 11 | Cold Heart (PNAU Remix) | Elton John & Dua Lipa | 5848 | 12 | Enemy | Imagine Dragons X JID | 5645 | 13 | Thats What I Want | Lil Nas X | 5583 | 14 | Woman | Doja Cat | 5261 | 15 | We Don't Talk About Bruno | Carolina Gaitan, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz & Encanto Cast | 5195 | 16 | Wait For U | Future ft. Itโs been quite awhile since Iโve done this, but howโs for another update for the J-D list for this year. Heat Waves sits in a very comfortable position to be the YE1, and realistically speaking, the only song I can see *maybe* dethroning it is As it Was.
1. Heat Waves* - Glass Animals 518,600 2. Stay* - The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber 460,600 3. Super Gremlin - Kodak Black 407,830 4. Easy On Me* - Adele 406,060 5. Shivers* - Ed Sheeran 367,700 6. Young Thug 235,200 20. โTil You Canโt - Cody Johnson 226,580 21. One Right Now - Post Malone & The Weeknd 222,750 22. Surface Pressure - Jessica Darrow 215,150 23. Levitating* - Dua Lipa 212,950 24. - - - - - - - - - Projected Cutoff - - - - - - - - - - - -
47. Sheโs All I Wanna Be - Tate McRae 125,250 48. 23 - Sam Hunt 125,190 49. Light Switch - Charlie Puth 124,820 50. Sweetest Pie - Megan Thee Stallion & Dua Lipa 119,670 51. To the Moon - JNR Choi & Sam Hopkins 102,050 66. Flower Shops - Ernest ft. Morgan Wallen 101,180
For those keeping track, thatโs 16 songs from last yearโs list projected to make the list again. And yes, that projected cutoff is insanely low; weโre 46% of the way through the year and the current cutoff line is at 125k. Iโm sure itโll go up, but probably not much higher than 130k. Can you tell I donโt like keeping track of this year?

Admittedly, though, all will be on the regular YE so that's good.

Again, for anyone who hasn't heard, the grandmaster of chart databasing, Joel Whitburn, founder of Record Research, died recently at age 82. There's a thread for condolences hereFor the week of Jun 18, 2022, here are how I think the top 100 of 2022 currently stands:
And here's the direction I think it's going based on estimated future chart performance. The Top 6 seem pretty set in stone to me
1. Heat Waves 2. As It Was 3. Stay 4. Easy On Me 5. First Class 6. Big Energy
I think Super Gremlin will be in the Top 10 too, but a bit lower, like #9. I think the last 3 tracks will be filled in by About Damn Time, and a couple surprise tracks (Glimpse Of Us, Running Up That Hill?)

The three YE toppers of the decade so far are the biggest song in Billboard history, a song that didn't get a single week at 1 and if Heat Waves holds up, a repeat, what an interesting to start off the 2020s.

All of them were also first released within a 7-month period between November 2019 and June 2020. Even if you count the DaBaby remix of Levitating instead of the original, then they were all released within a year of each other, all prior to the start of 2021.

As It Was 4. Big Energy 5. Easy On Me 6. First Class 7. Shivers 8. Super Gremlin 9. Ghost 10. Cold Heart I'd be pretty shocked if As It Was beat Stay. I can't see AIW getting more than 750k and Stay should pass that easily if it can get to like 65 weeks or so. Big Energy vs EOM will be close as it needs 230k with 19 weeks left so a bit over 12k/week. With it getting over 16k right now it seems doable. Bad Habits might a contender as well if it can be annoying and aimlessly wander around from 17-20 for two months. Enemy is also totally possible, if it's still charting by year's end it will have about 600k which should be enough but I actually think it'll be gone in a few months Don't see ADT contending. Even at 20k per week for the next 21 weeks it will still be below 550k

I think Wait For U could pull through if it keeps gaining on radio and doesnโt fall out of the top 5 on AM for at least until August. Maybe it could have a similar run to Life Is Good which is coincidental.

This is the first time since I began watching the charts that the #1 YE song won't be the song that anyone would've called the biggest in the given year. Sure, last year Montero, Good 4 U, Industry Baby, Save Your Tears or Stay may have felt bigger than Levitating for some, or even most people, but the argument that Levitating was the biggest hit could have absolutely been made, and that opinion would've felt viable, if unpopular. This year, however, Heat Waves simply wasn't the biggest hit song - and I can't see anyone not following the charts call it that. During it's reign at #1 - WDTAB had the bigger impact. First Class and As It Was would be the top 2 this year for most in whatever order, Easy On Me and even Stay seemed like bigger moments - and yet it seems all but set for Heat Waves to be the #1.
I'm not saying that billboard is wrong, because clearly they cannot break their own rules to make a different song the #1 just because "it felt bigger", but I honestly just can't remember this level of disconnect from the charts

We're at the point in the year where I believe there isn't a song that'll catch Heat Waves or Stay, hell Easy on Me might be a little out of reach for other songs.

Like Heat Waves, HYRM was a leftover from the previous year and hit #1 early in the tracking year it went on to be the YE #1.

Obviously what feels like the biggest is subjective and you will get different answers from different people, but I would think most people would say Heat Waves has definitely felt huge and a candidate for the biggest song of the year. Also, when did you start watching the charts? It cannot have been for very very long, because I remember as recently as 2016 many people thought Love Yourself didn't at all feel like the biggest hit of the year.

Closer was the biggest song released in 2016 but it wasn't the biggest hit in 2016 as a year overall, that'd be Love Yourself, Sorry or Work imo. Similarly, I'd argue Good 4 U, Levitating, Montero or Save Your Tears "felt" like the biggest song of 2021 as a year, but the biggest song released in 2021 is no doubt Stay

"Heat Waves" about to take "Smooth" and "Circles"' record for highest US Billboard Hot 100 YE re-entry is just a bad thought when I consider that the latter would've been in that position if a G.O.A.T song in "Blinding Lights" didn't had the all-timer chart run that we all knew.

For the chart week of Jun 25, 2022, here's how I think the year-end Top 100 currently looks: My predictive chart goes out 20 weeks. That goes to November 12, likely the last week of the Billboard calendar year-end. So for the rest of the year, this chart will be predicting fewer and fewer weeks and get closer to the chart above. Sad to see The Motto is now unlikely to make the top 100 in the US. It did much better in Canada and it's one of my favourite tracks of the year.

I really wanted Post to get a YE #1 but he got blocked by 2 all time hits in 2 separate years that really set records. I donโt think Sunflower or Circles were the biggest moments of 2019 and 2020 respectively the same way OTR and Blinding Lights literally defined those years, but it wouldโve been cool to see either one have the best spot. At least The Weeknd had a YE #1 (which in my fan boy senses is still insane to me let alone having the biggest hit of all time) and was so close to getting it with SYT if it wasnโt for Levitating but iโm still glad Dua managed to actually get justice and claim a #1 for once. These past 2 year end lists have been so crazy and 2022 looks like to be another one as well.
