Cold Heart, You Should Probably Leave, Fair Trade and My Universe are all locked. Looks like RATC is gonna be very borderline. There’s one spot left before the cutoff line rises above the official 2021 YE. That one spot will be taken by AIWFCIY. That said, Sand in My Boots and Buy Dirt are both within striking distance, and could very well pass 157k each next week. The cutoff line is gonna be really interesting, and makes it a total toss up for which songs will make the final list.

Its ridiculous to me that Drake won artist of the year over Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo or the Weeknd. Sure he broke yet another milestone with debuts but he has no songs in the year end top 40 and the others had multible The fact that CLB had 2 songs (almost 3) make the year end probably meant that he had a lot of points accumulated just for the last quarter of the year. He’s also debuted in the entire top 3 earlier this year with Scary Hours 2, on top of claiming the entire top 5 and 4 other songs totaling 9/10 in the top 10 on the CLB album bomb week. The points alone from the 2 occurrences probably gave him a huge boost up the artist chart as well as staying on the chart for almost an entire year (just 1 or 2 weeks missing).

Billboard's Top Artists Year-End also includes stats from the Billboard 200, not just the Hot 100. And because Drake has an extensive catalog of albums/mixtapes, several of which chart on the BB200 consistently, that's what ultimately put him over the top. FWIW, Olivia leads the Hot 100 Artists Year-End, which of course is based on cumulative artist stats from solely the Hot 100.

Sure he broke yet another milestone with debuts but he has no songs in the year end top 40 and the others had multible Olivia beat Drake, mostly because she didn't have any features so she got 100% of the points for all her hits whereas Drake only had 1 solo song make the year end and even that was a massive flop www.billboard.com/charts/year-end/2021/hot-100-artists/

Are we still doing 2022 predictions in this thread? It's getting a little hard to tell. For the chart week of Dec 18, 2021, here's how the Top 100 songs of 2022 are shaping up. Obviously still very early, but Easy On Me is the first song to guarantee it will make the list, passing the magic 1600 point barrier. Ignore the "LW" column. Those were the positions 2 weeks ago. My projected year-end doesn't account for the near-certain elimination of holiday songs in a few weeks. Because of Billboard's odd chart dating, the chart week of Dec 25 will cover the period from Dec 10-16, the Jan 1, 2022 chart will cover Dec 17-23, and the Jan 8 chart will cover Dec 24-30. So 2 heavy days of sales, streaming and airplay could give Holiday tracks a bonus (albeit lower) position on the chart. So take these projections with a very large pillar of salt.

The Jan 1, 2022 chart will cover activities that take place entirely within 2021. That what I do.

The Jan 1, 2022 chart will cover activities that take place entirely within 2021. That what I do. so will the following week. And before 2018, the chart date was even further removed from the official date. And the tracking week has changed a lot over time. I specifically choose chart dates because it gives a measure of consistency across time, and because Billboard's stated reasoning for cutting the year off early was to get the chart out by their final publication of the year. This accomplished that goal while being more accurate to the actual year. Next year will be a 53 week year though

This sucks so much. I had the chart finished and tried to post it, but my internet for my laptop had gone out, and when I tried to back out my entire post was undone. I had spent 3 hours working on it, and I have to wake up for work at 4am. I hate this.

Can someone do a fiscal year (July-June) chart for the completed FY 2021 (July 2020-June 2021) and in progress FY 2022 (July 2021-June 2022)? I remember someone doing this for 2019-2020, and am just curious how this would look.

Do we already have a picture of which songs are likely to get caught between years?
I know some people hinted that "Wild Side" could have made 2021's Year-End had its full run been counted, but I'm not too sure about it.

The first chart dated 2022 is out but of course doesn't actually measure any 2022 activity. Neither, for that matter, will next week. Nonetheless, here's how the 2022 year-end currently shapes up. Two further songs, AIWFCIY and Industry Baby, have locked their 2022 year-end spots.
I've adjusted the projected year-end list to face the reality that Christmas songs are just not going to have points after next week. The Jan 8 chart will include activity of Dec 24 & 25th, so several holiday tracks could survive one more week. After that they'll spoil like room temperature egg nog.

These numbers will change in the next couple of weeks because Christmas songs dropping out will leave space for other songs to climb the chart without even trying.

Actually, the Billboard Music Awards, which air in May and seem to get the most publicity, even more so than the year-end lists, seem to use a mid-March cutoff if I'm not mistaken, so that time period might be worth tracking more than anything (not that I'm personally volunteering though).

Has there been any artist who’s been at #1 for 2 or more Year End charts? There are people who’s come close like JB who was #1 in 2016 and 2017 at #2, Drake at #3 in 2016 and #1 in 2018, Ed Sheeran at #1 in 2017 and #2 in 2018 and The Weeknd at #1 in 2020 and #2 in 2021.

You can also say Paul McCartney had 3 year end #1s since he had two with the Beatles and one with the Wings in 1976.

And you can also argue that Ed Sheeran has 2 consecutive Year-End #1’s, as he co-wrote Love Yourself for Justin Bieber in 2016 and had Shape of You as a solo hit in 2017.

In the US, Careless Whisper was credited as George Michael and not Wham so technically he's one.

And provided the backing vocals on the song. And originally intended it for Divide until he decided it didn’t fit him that well. Basically, Love Yourself is to Ed Sheeran what Anyone is to Jon Bellion
