{Text Only} 5. Sa-Roc ft. Black Thought - "The Black Renaissance"
Points: 119,833 Peak: #1 (4 Weeks) Weeks on Chart: 36* 2021 Chart Run: 38-26-16-14-16-8-4-2-1-1-1-1-4-7-8-6-9-15-16-16-26-30-33-37-38-38-40-44-45-43-43-44-45-43-41-43-...
I already mentioned that The Sharecropper's Daughter was one of the albums I listened to this year and I enjoyed it quite a lot. She possesses all of the qualities that I like in a rapper and while hip-hop is not my main genre, her music is exactly what I look for in rap. "The Black Renaissance" is one of the album's highlights. Sa-Roc has the ability to tell a story through her music and that shows here. Black Thought is very talented as well and I love that verse where they're going back and forth. I know the song is from last year, but it's still one of the best collaborations I've heard this year. Both artists do an amazing job here and I dig the instrumental quite a bit. I think it works really well with the rest of the song! So yeah, I love this and she's an artist I might keep up with so that I know when she releases anything!

{Text Only} 4. Jessie Ware - "Remember Where You Are"
Points: 133,722 Peak: #1 (2 Weeks) Weeks on Chart: 37* 2021 Chart Run: 30-28-28-27-5-2-2-1-1-3-8-2-3-6-6-7-4-15-13-12-12-11-20-20-17-11-11-19-18-30-40-41-35-30-15-14-11-...
Another song from What's Your Pleasure? that initially was not one of my favorites! I feel like the slower songs took a few listens to really grow on me, but now I think this song is extraordinary (hence the Top 5 finish)! I think in the context of the album, it works beautifully as a closer. I've heard albums with weak closers that sound like they could go anywhere else on the album. But the 6-minute "Remember Where You Are" just sounds like a grand finish and it's the perfect way to close out such a fantastic album! Her vocals on here are amazing, but I also want to highlight her live performances of this song because she honestly sounds even better in those. The instrumental is gorgeous and it's just a beautiful song all together! I can see why it was one of Obama's favorites last year!

{Text Only} 3. Gorillaz ft. ScHoolboy Q - "Pac-Man"
Points: 136,513 Peak: #1 (5 Weeks) Weeks on Chart: 38 2021 Chart Run: 34-24-14-8-7-2-1-1-1-1-1-2-5-7-9-7-7-10-8-12-20-25-32-37-32-31-34-34-43-43-45-44-43-41-43-43-43-42-Off
While "Aries" is probably the best song on Song Machine, "Pac-Man" is easily Top 3! I mentioned this earlier, but I always love how you can never expect what a Gorillaz song is going to sound like. Even on this album alone, these songs all sound completely unique. Like "Pac-Man" and "Strange Timez" have very little in common, yet they both sound so good. "Pac-Man" has these cool sounds that sound like they came out of a video game, which is fitting and super cool. It's funky and 2D sounds great. ScHoolboy Q absolutely nails his verse and I love that he's on for a good chunk of the song. I also cherish this song as it was my first ever seed winner in a rankdown madness game and had a Top 10 finish in the finals! There's just a lot to love here, as there is in most Gorillaz songs, but I think this one is slightly more memorable!

{Text Only} 2. Jessie Ware - "What's Your Pleasure?"
Points: 138,298 Peak: #1 (4 Weeks) Weeks on Chart: 47 Notes: - This song was carried over from 2020. It spent 47 weeks on the chart total, with 43 of those weeks being within the 2021 tracking period.
{2020 Chart Run:} 30-12-8-2-... 2021 Chart Run: ...-2-3-1-1-1-1-3-3-5-5-9-8-11-18-9-11-12-22-22-28-30-37-37-40-40-32-28-33-33-35-40-39-40-42-44-43-43-41-44-44-39-40-39-Off
We saved the best Jessie Ware song for last! "What's Your Pleasure?" is a pure diamond in modern pop music! I've gone back and forth on what I thought the best song on What's Your Pleasure? was, but my thoughts on the title track have been the most consistent ever since I first heard it. This song is the perfect example of why I love the album as a whole and if I had to pick one song from it to play for someone who doesn't know the album, I'd pick this one! It's just modern disco at its finest! The perfect song to get up and dance to! The production on here is stellar! Her voice is amazing and I love how she can pull off the breathy vocals, while also being able to really belt out. This album is a work of art and this song is simply phenomenal. I'm grateful to the people on Pulse for introducing her music to me because this album is legitimately the best pop album I've heard in years!

{Text Only} 1. CHVRCHES ft. Robert Smith - "How Not To Drown"
Points: 155,496 Peak: #1 (9 Weeks) Weeks on Chart: 27* 2021 Chart Run: 29-18-14-3-1-1-1-1-1-1-3-2-1-1-1-4-4-3-11-11-12-14-10-15-19-19-19-...
CHVRCHES have always been a consistently good band ever since I first heard "The Mother We Share", which I still enjoy to this day. Even the Love Is Dead tracks I enjoyed a good amount. "He Said She Said" started off the new era, which is a good song though not my favorite. But then we got "How Not To Drown", which I didn't immediately know would end up being the best song of the year. But as the months went on, the song just got better and better when it was already amazing to begin with! Robert Smith from The Cure contributed here and there are no words for how amazing his voice sounds on here, especially when he joins Lauren in the chorus. I've always loved Lauren's voice and I think she sounds fantastic on here. But adding in Robert Smith just took the song to a new level! The production is immaculate from the moment the song starts, and I love how it fades out in the last minute. It's such a well-written and well-constructed song that I don't see how one could not love it. This is the best thing CHVRCHES has put out thus far, and Screen Violence is also one of the best albums of the year! While they've always been a group I enjoyed, this is beyond anything they've released prior. They set the bar really high this year, but I look forward to what's to come next year because I'm sure there will be something that will blow me away the same way this song did!

That concludes my Top 50 Songs of 2021! Thanks to those who followed along and big thanks to anyone I tagged during the reveals because I really appreciate all of the discoveries from our madness games this year! Like I said earlier, my taste wouldn't be where it is now if it wasn't for Pulse and those games!
"How Not To Drown" was the defining moment of 2021 for me, and I'm really looking forward to what 2022 has in store as far as music goes! With how busy I'll probably be, I might not be that active on Pulse, but I will still participate in madness rankdowns and tournaments and my personal chart will continue, so I'm excited for another year of good music! Happy New Year everyone! :)
