I thought this was so boring in my first few listens, but it's grown on me a lot over time.
Edit: Also how did West Coast do so poorly in the 2014 Alt rd??

Edit: Also how did West Coast do so poorly in the 2014 Alt rd?? All I can say is, she's far from the only solo girl who was ranked worse than she should've been in the Alternative rankdowns that were hosted in 2017.

85: Redemption: Rateliff sleeping through the motions here again. This only got airplay because it's by Rateliff, there's nothing to see here. 84: Missing Piece: Probably overranked this a bit. I still maintain it's one of Vance Joy's better songs, but it didn't fare better on a stronger list, obviously. 83: Heat Waves: Ditto with this one too except I ranked it about where I should right. 82: Run It: Not bad, but kinda boring for them. 81: Dried Up River: Landed about where it should. Decent song, but not great either. 80: Saturday: #DownWithTripleAC. This song is alright, but what is this even doing here? 79: Shame Shame: It makes sense that this is the era they get their weakest performer. Not bad, but lead single material? Come on now, Dave. 78: Higher Power: Cool, let's get more alt crossovers out. 77: We Are Between: This is still auto-piloty for them. Lacks the wow factor of their older stuff, even if Sun Hasn't Left is a bit better. But SEVEN weeks at #1 for this, really? 76: How High: At least they finally made a better song we'll rank next year. This was alright, but I felt that the Record Company were a one trick pony until Never Leave You. 75: May We All: Continuing the trend of songs I found decent but not great. 74: Can't Let Go: Mom and dad didn't improve on the Lucinda Williams version, and while the cover was good, it's also not as good as Gone Gone Gone or Please Read the Letter. Why not me just listen to Lucinda's version again? I'm also not sure if they replicate the Grammy success of Raising Sand back in 2009 next year, considering a certain Adele is now here. I would treat Searching for My Love better if we get to rank it. 73: Break My Baby: This era was just forgettable. 72: Sanctuary: I've liked whatever I've heard from MC Taylor, and this is no exception. Glad to see him finally get a big hit on the format, and I like the lyrics on this one too. 71: Let Me Love You Like a Woman: Thank goodness this didn't overstay. This song was so damn boring, the lyrics are pretty weak, and the overplay only worsened things. How do you go from Venice Bitch/Mariners Apartment Complex to... this?
Extras:
Work Hard and Be Nice: Trash. What did you expect. Sugar and Spice is nice, cool guitar riff. Your Power would've ended low on my list too (not bottom 10 though), lol. I like Billie, but I still cannot really get into this song as much as I want to. Phoenix would've been in my top 10/20, sorry Gates. Though it would've been nice if Anais Mitchell's vocals weren't so drowned out by Justin's. Over You is also pretty good. Wildfire is really generic, no thanks. Say is also trash. Their WORST single. Rae Street is neat. Find My Way is not bad.

85. Redemption - Nathaniel RateliffFell off the other side of my seat with this comatose wonderjam. 84. Missing Piece - Vance JoyI gave this one a #74. Not too terrible or played out like his first hit was. The melody was decent, but don't get used to me ranking Vance Joy this high. 83. Heat Waves - Glass Animals...and there it is. It gets harder to listen to every time. I ended up hating this song even more on this list. I'm going to borrow the hashtag #DownWithTripleAC just this once because it seriously sounds like the guy is just clanging all kinds of kitchenware in the background. I'm no AAA expert, but I have a feeling the only reason this charted on AAA is because of it's success on Alt. I swear I would have given that Sims wonderjam a much higher rank. True story. 82. Run It - My Morning JacketI swear if I was riding a horse to the tune of this one I would fall right off in a deep sleep. "Love Love Love" is a jam tho. 81. Dried Up River - The Lone BellowThis had a little bit of a Heartland country sway to it. Decent, but still a little dry around the edges. 80. Saturday - twenty one pilotsI understand why that particular version was posted. I chose to rank the original, because it is the one I like. This version from that video would have been in my bottom 10. Terrible trainwreck. Especially that intro. 79. Shame Shame - Foo FightersThe song doesn't sound so different played live. It really doesn't do much for me on any chart. 78. Higher Power - ColdplayAnother pity ranking , because it is a song I actually like, but ask me if this is in my top 20 Coldplay songs of all time and I say "nay" 77. We Are Between - Modest MouseThis one I love. It is a Cruiseover, but it fits the chart. I mean real instruments and all that go a long way. Just missed my top 10 this time. 76. How High - The Record Company This one had a cool groove. The lyrics were about as interesting as reading the label of a paint can, but they flowed nicely with the song's rhythm. 75. May We All - Dispatch This one had a cool pop rock feel to it. nice bass guitar ride. 74. Can't Let Go - Robert Plant & Alison KraussVocal powerhouse, but the song could have been better. 73. Break My Baby - KALEOThe more previews I gave this the more I dropped it down my list, so I just stopped previewing it. 72. Sanctuary - Hiss Golden MessengerFalls were I think it should. I wanted to rank it a bit higher for the chorus alone, but the rest didn't do it for me. Is there a reason why he decided to spell His like the sound of a snake? is he like Christian AAAA? 71. Let Me Love You Like a Woman - Lana Del ReyHer vocals took away the boring factor. 'nuff said. Nice to see my two favorite discoveries are still riding high. They are songs from two completely different styles. I think half of you dug one of them and the other half dug the other.

extras:
Work Hard and Be Nice - Michael Franti & Spearhead This is a perfect example when a nice melody and brass section doesn't help your song one bit.
Sugar and Spice - Jocelyn & Chris Oooh I remember previewing this jam. Would have been my third favorite discovery. I would have thrown that Weezer travesty out of Active and charted this instead.
Your Power - Billie Eilish I'll spare this wonderjam this one time, because it shouldn't even have been played on the format , but you know where I would have placed this?
Phoenix - Big Red Machine f/ Fleet Foxes & Anaïs Mitchell This is waaaaaaaay tooooo Home of the range for me.
Over You - Aaron Frazer Ooohh F U C Kin nice. Love the vocals. The percussion fits the groove of the song like a glove. Sounds like AAA fire to me. Why couldn't Fitz solo stuff sound like this?
Wildfire - The Heavy Hours Something about it rubbed me the wrong way. maybe I wanted to listen to the Aaron Frazer song one more time instead.
Say - Moon Taxi WOW! Here is one for garbage day. AJR singing under a different name. Brave are the ones who sat through this one without cringing. With all the clanging Heat Waves had this might have been my real #100. Who is else is with me?
Rae Street - Courtney Barnett Nothing wrong here. has a strong AAA vibe. Feels way more adequate for the chart than the Alt cruisovers.
Find My Way - Paul McCartney I hare more Beck than Paul. That's probably a good thing too. I wanna recall making a thread for this on Non singles forum, but I could be wrong. Anyway, top 40 rank for me. At least.

{OKAY, THIS WORD WALL, YOU CAN BLAME ON ME BEING OLD}#85: "Survivor" is higher? No way! #84: Still boring. #83: Their worst performance is still "Black Mambo", oh, that's unfortunate. #82: This was just kind of there, which, for a My Morning Jacket song, is pretty surprising. #81: I just noticed that this is the third AAA rankdown where I've ranked a Lone Bellow song at #80. I swear, I'm not doing it on purpose. #80: One of many songs that was effected by being in a much, much tougher rankdown. #79: And another. If it wasn't for James pointing it out, I wouldn't have noticed that this was their new worst performer. This era kind of deserved it, yeah. #78: ...and another lol #77: Look, this is all a way of saying "Alt crossovers were, for the most part, doomed to fall in my ranking, as is the case every year". #76: This was fine, but they've definitely made better. #75: Probably the best Dispatch song I've heard so far, so, of course, it's also their worst performer so far. #74: Compared to their most popular work together, this is...fine, but not really all that memorable. #73: I have to imagine "No Good" would do better in an Active re-do today, right? #37 seems wildly low for it today. Oh, right, this song, still fine. #72: snek #71: Pretty disappointing from Lana after some of the great songs she gave us from NFR. At least the "West Coast" Alt performance isn't her worst performer anymore.

85. As much as I think his solo music is inferior to group music, this has more punches than the other song with the group. Not that good still but should not leave this soon. 84. This is decent but unremarkable. Surprised it was this divisive. 83. I don't think it's a very good song to begin with, let alone a song that charts for forever and more. 82. This is too low-key to me. The vocals are sleep-inducing. 81. Nope. Still bored by this group. 80. Nope. Still bored by this group and found them overrated. 79. The beats are quite jarring to listen to. Doesn't have the intended hipness. 78. Uninspired "80s music" sounds without listening to actual 80s music. 77. The "anthem" that quickly burns out. 76. Solid blues rock song. 75. It actually took a while for me to make the connection to Circles Around The Sun. This melody is a lot more generic. 74. I actually considered this song for November New Country Releases rankdown. After all the album charted in country albums, but I thought country listeners have listened to some versions of this song already. I like the vocal dynamics in this song more. 73. Why did he sing like that? 72. A solid pleasant listen. 71. She definitely has better songs from the album to be singles Would rank Your Power, Phoenix (a highlight of a meh album), and Rae Street high.

100. We Are The People - Not horrible, there are worse songs here IMO. But it's certainly far from the best song Bono and The Edge have been involved with.
99. You - This song is kind of bland and obnoxious at the same time. Well deserved bottom 5.
98. Follow You - As I said in the Alt rankdown, I don't think this is bad per se, just aggressively inoffensive.
97. Survivin' - Not a fan of this one, far from Bastille's best for sure.
96. Sword From The Stone - I've actually kind of liked some of the past Passenger songs (including "Let Her Go"), but this one didn't appeal to me at all.
95. Roll Me Mama, Roll Me - I thought "Strong Enough" deserved better last time around. This, not so much.
94. Colorado - I don't hate this, maybe bottom 10 is a bit harsh, but I can't say I'm a fan either. It's no "Stolen Dance" for sure.
93. Officer of Love - Did not care for this at all, somewhat pleasantly surprised it's this low though.
92. Call Me A Fool - I've heard better from Valerie June in the past. This one was not good.
91. Roots and Wings - I think The Wallflowers deserved better in some past rankdowns ("One Headlight" notwithstanding), but this one did nothing for me. Maybe bottom 10 is a little harsh though.
90. Elevator Boots - And here's another forgettable comeback single from a '90s adult-alternative band.
89. My Cleveland Heart - I'm not particularly crazy about Jackson Browne's old stuff, but he's definitely done better than this.
88. See The World - Sounds like your typical bland "Triple AC" track. Also my second song in a row to land one position below where I ranked it.
87. The Great Divide - I don't hate this, but it's far from The Shins' best, and also not nearly as good as "Everything Now" (the song).
86. Friend - This was one of the better first listens for me, so I'm surprised to see it this low. Of course, I wasn't aware of the alleged nepotism.
85. Redemption - I really haven't cared for anything Nathaniel Rateliff has put out (with or without the band) since "You Worry Me"; this is no exception.
84. Missing Piece - I like fun, but this is boring.
83. Heat Waves - This song has always been a solid "meh" for me.
82. Run It - I was half-expecting me to be one of the lowest rankers for this one, glad that wasn't the case. Not a fan of this at all.
81. Dried Up River - Meh.
80. Saturday - Now this is closer to where it belongs than in the Alt rankdown at least. This song got annoying REALLY fast.
79. Shame Shame - While I don't love this, I don't feel like it deserves to be that much lower than some of their 2000s-era songs. Nor does it deserve to be the lowest one out of these three. At least they did something different here, and it worked pretty well IMO.
78. Higher Power - This grew off me quickly. While it's an improvement over a lot of their stuff in recent years, it still feels too polished, and kind of bland and forgettable.
77. We Are Between - Boring, especially for a Modest Mouse song. It sucks that this got a free pass on Alternative while the better "Sun Hasn't Left" stiffed.
76. How High - Another song I feared would land way above where I put it, but this is close to where it belongs. More meh.
75. May We All - This one was pretty good and deserved better.
74. Can't Let Go - Nothing special but nice enough, there are definitely other songs that should have gone out before this.
73. Break My Baby - This band honestly feels like a bargain-brand version of several Alt/AAA crossover artists at once.
72. Sanctuary - Another song that didn't do anything for me.
71. Let Me Love You Like A Woman - Lana's been hit-or-miss for me, and this one's in the miss pile.
