(Left to Right, Top to Bottom: Paul Cauthen, The Secret Sisters, Margo Cilker, Punch Brothers, James McMurtry, Mindy Smith, Sierra Ferrell, Allison Russell) You know the drill. 40 of my favorite non-mainstream country or country-adjacent songs, that partly reflect my personal year-end choices as well, plus a mix of older but still great songs to bring the variety. Obviously I ran out of choices for some of the artists, so I hope the results are even more unpredictable lmao. The songs: Aaron Watson - Dark Horse Allison Russell - Persephone Amythyst Kiah - Wild Turkey Angaleena Presley - Pain Pills Billy Strings - Dust in a Baggie Candi Carpenter - Little Sparrow Charlie Marie - Heard It Through the Red Wine Charles Wesley Godwin - Bones Cody Jinks - William and Wanda Colter Wall - Sleeping on The Blacktop Emily Scott Robinson - Let 'Em Burn Gretchen Peters - Everything Falls Away James McMurtry - Jackie Jason Eady - French Summer Sun Jesse Daniel, Raul Malo - El Trabajador John Driskell Hopkins, Coy Bowles - Lonesome High Joshua Ray Walker - Voices Joy Williams - Canary Lillie Mae - Dance to the Beat of My Own Drum Luke Bell - Where Ya Been?Lydia Loveless - Jesus Was A Wino Margo Cilker - Broken Arm in Oregon Mike and the Moonpies - Whose Side You're On Mindy Smith - Raggedy Ann Neko Case - Man Paul Cauthen - Cocaine Country Dancing Pony Bradshaw - Guru Punch Brothers - Julep Rhiannon Giddens - Avalon (with Francesco Turrisi) Sierra Ferrell - Far Away Across The Sea Sturgill Simpson - Welcome to Earth (Pollywog) Tami Neilson - You Were Mine The Panhandlers - The Panhandler The Secret Sisters - Cabin Turnpike Troubadours - The Mercury Tyler Childers - Nose on the Grindstone Valerie June - Colors Vincent Neil Emerson - Learnin' to Drown Whiskey Myers - Broken Window Serenade Yola - Stand For Myself Playlist (minus Luke Bell - Where Ya Been? which is Youtube only): Instructions: 1) Rank the songs from #1 (most favorite) to #40 (least favorite). 2) Send your list to me via PM on or before March 1st8th (tentative obviously). 3) Enjoy and maybe save some songs into your playlist! As a fan of Jesse Daniel who has seen him live...you really went with that song?! That's a choice haha...otherwise, I'm looking forward to this overall. I'll have an Apple Music playlist put together soon.

Um I love the Charles Wesley Godwin choice! “Bones” is one of my favorites from How the Mighty Fall but I feel like the singles and “Cranes of Potter” get the most attention.

I'm in! Found quite a few favorites from your last list. Love how you open with Aaron Watson's Dark Horse. I always consider El Comienzo del Viaje to be the unofficial opening of Dark Horse. That said, I have to imagine many wouldn't appreciate the long drawn out instrumental.
Looking forward to digging in...

The alphabetical order means Aaron Watson's songs would most likely be at the top of playlists anyway. I did consider putting El Comienzo del Viaje there but combined with Dark Horse, but it looked weird so i didn't.

Working on it right now. About to finish my first draft of the list so should be able to look over and send it to you by the deadline!
I found "Where Ya Been?" on Spotify but it might be geoblocked in some regions:

Last day to submit. Thanks zack97 and fearlessarrow for sending. If you want an extension again I may consider, but I prefer not to extend too much as March Madness is coming.

1. Which song will win? Which songs will be top 5?
On name recognition alone, it's hard to see Tyler Childers, Whiskey Myers and Cody Jinks not making the top 5. And of course there's Sturgill. I really liked Joy Williams and Niko Case too. I have no clue on what will win
2. Which song will be the last? Which songs will be bottom 5?
Joshua Ray Walker maybe last? Lillie Mae, Valerie June, Jesse Daniel/Raul Malo, Lydia Loveless? Again, this is such an eclectic group of songs it is hard to guess
3. Which songs will have high SD? Which songs will have low SD?
Low - Whiskey Myers High - potentially everything else
4. Which song is your favorite discovery?
That's hard. By an artist I didn't know existed, I'd say Joy Williams or Luke Bell's songs.
5. Where would you place this volume in terms of quality comparing to other volumes?
There were some definite good discoveries, I think this was more consistent as far as far as songs I enjoyed. Volume 2 had higher highs and a couple lower lows for me. That said, the discoveries in Volume 2 (Jason Hawk Harris – Grandfather, Corb Lund - I Think You Oughta Try Whiskey (ft. Jaida Dreyer) and American Aquarium - Six Years Come September) were more immediate and I'm still playing the crap out of each of them months later.
6. Any other comments?
Thanks for doing this. I'm not overly adventurous in checking out new artists so these are always great to hear new(er) artists
