In the BDS era of charts, the '90s country charts had the perfect flow to them. Nothing lasted over 20 weeks and not every single went to #1. The charts starting slowing down in the '00s but still had a decent flow to them. By the '10s the charts moved much slower where we started seeing longer chart runs. By 2020, songs were taking 50+ weeks to get to the top and very few songs peak in the 2-40 range in the top 40. The revolving door at #1 means only one song falling each week where most every song that reaches the top 40 goes to #1 meaning songs move up one spot at a time taking up to 40+ weeks on the chart. I know times have changed since the 90s how music is listened to but here how I think Billboard and Mediabase can fix their charts. If they want to continue the revolving door at #1, I'm fine with that. But whatever song that's the weakest link in the 2-10 range needs to be let go of by radio and possibly another weak link in the 11-20 range should be let go of as well. That would mean 3 songs falling each week and the charts would spped up to where songs would be on the chart no more than 26 weeks and the charts would have a fresher look every week. Also songs charting in the lower region that isn't moving that much after 20 weeks or so should be purged in favor of newer songs. I think that would get the charts back closer to what they were in the 1990s-2000s when they had a good flow to them. What do y'all think?
