TLC's iconic debut album that was released on February 25, 1992 by LaFace Records. The title of the album comes from the last line of Left Eye's rap on "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg". For the album, TLC collaborated with Babyface, L.A. Reid, Dallas Austin, Da Funky Bunch, Jermaine Dupri and Marley Marl, who helped Lopes with the songwriting. The album peaked at #14 on the US Billboard 200 and has been certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), denoting shipments in excess of four million copies in the United States. It is also TLC's third most successful album (after CrazySexyCool and FanMail, respectively), having sold over six million copies worldwide. I love all the tracks from this album, especially "Bad By Myself" and "Somethin' You Wanna Know". What are your fave tracks and memories from this era? I was only 4 when this came out and knew the singles "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg", "What About Your Friends", and "Baby Baby Baby" very well back then. Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg #6 Hot 100, #2 R&B Baby Baby Baby #2 Hot 100, #19 Dance Singles Sales, #1 R&B, #9 Mainstream Top 40, #2 U.S. Rhythmic What About Your Friends #7 Hot 100, #2 R&B, #18 Mainstream Top 40, #1 U.S. Rhythmic Hat 2 da Back #30 Hot 100, #26 Dance Singles Sales, #14 R&B, #14 U.S. Rhythmic

Love it front to back. Their first 3 albums are all excellent.

I think this is their second best album, behind CSC. It's very consistent and has held up well.

It will always be my third favorite (after FanMail and CSC, in that order), but I still love it so much. The singles are the obvious stand outs, but there are so many great tracks - Shock Dat Monkey, His Story, Somethin' You Wanna Know, Das Da Way We Like 'Em, etc. This album is also very special due to Left Eye's major presence on it. It's amazing they were able to shift their image so well from this to CSC, but at the same time, it felt very genuine.
The last two tracks are my least favorite, but I still like them in the context of the album.

I actually like this better than Fanmail. The singles are all good, and yes some of the album tracks are solid as well. As you said, they were able to shift their image well. In terms of their first 3 albums, each one has a unique style/image but also a sound. They were great that way.
