The charts definitely has an effect, it not might be the direct one only, but the charts is one part of the whole music business and the whole business has enormous effect what people listen to. These times are long gone when small radio station started to play a song which eventually went to become a hit. Maybe you're right. BRB, need to write some long-winded emails to the weather network and all my high school math teachers. cΒ΄mon, the music and songs are all the products, which you can have influence to consume or not and these are not even the primary product which people would need to survive on. It is a made up and totally controlable business.

Lol at everyone breathlessly talking about Sweetest Pie in last weekβs thread talking about it being a sure fire number one, even talking about it being the year end number one π People set themselves up for dissappointment there. But tbh #15 is a little lower than I thought.

So thereβs an above zero chance that Stay re-peaks like FIVE MONTHS LATER simply because nothing is popular enough. This is the bad timeline.
Taylor if youβre reading thisβ¦ surprise drop 1989TV, the chart is free real estate rn.

If people want a more fluid chart where things move in and out quicker then everyone needs to collectively adjust their listening habits on a weekly basis --- and add and drop at least 5 songs a week from their personal playlists. LOL
What you are seeing is the impact of streaming and the technology able to track it.
The Hot 100 is in general a summary of what OTHER PEOPLE listen to. Pre-streaming -- you had the impact of a normal person buying a song once and then the impact of turnover of radio controlled playlists. But with listener controlled playlists becoming more and more the norm, songs will only naturally chart longer.
You guys should ask yourselves when you come across a song you really like -- do you keep listening to it until you no longer want to, or do you say to yourself, it has been one of my most listened to songs for 4 weeks now, time to make it go recurrent and play something else?
I think people will listen to what they want for as long as they want and that impact is what you are seeing in the charts with longer chart runs

Itβs def more accurate now than ever but watching the same 7/8 songs hold on to the top 10 spots for over 5 months is just exhausting to watch play out lol. It makes the big moments like All Too Well and Bruno more hype but the inbetween is just HORRID

Glass Animalsβ βHeat Wavesβ Rules Hot 100 For Third Week, Imagine Dragons & JIDβs βEnemyβ Hits Top 10 Imagine Dragons earn their fifth top 10 and first since 2018. Drew Perez* Glass Animalsβ βHeat Wavesβ tops the Billboard Hot 100 for a third week, after completing a record 59-week climb to No. 1. Meanwhile, Imagine Dragons and JIDβs βEnemyβ enters the Hot 100βs top 10, jumping from No. 12 to No. 8. The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay, and sales data. All charts (dated March 26, 2022) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (March 22). For all chart news, you can follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram. βHeat Waves,β released on Wolf Tone/Polydor/Republic Records, drew 67.3 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 2%) and 15.2 million U.S. streams (up 1%) and sold 3,100 downloads (down 9%) in the March 11-17 tracking week, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. The single, the first Hot 100 No. 1 (and entry) for the British quartet, logs a second week at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart; dips to No. 4 from its No. 3 high on Streaming Songs; and falls 16-20 on Digital Song Sales, where it reached No. 13. As βHeat Wavesβ reigns in its 61st total week on the Hot 100, it ties as the fifth-longest-charting No. 1 in the listβs history (and is almost assured of moving into second place within two months). Longest-Charting Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s 90 weeks on Hot 100 (an overall record), βBlinding Lights,β The Weeknd (2019-21; four weeks at No. 1) 68 weeks, βParty Rock Anthem,β LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock (2011-12; six weeks at No. 1) 65 weeks, βRolling in the Deep,β Adele (2010-12; seven weeks at No. 1) 63 weeks, βSave Your Tears,β The Weeknd & Ariana Grande (2020-22; two weeks at No. 1; still on the chart) 61 weeks, βHeat Waves,β Glass Animals (2021-22; three weeks at No. 1 to date; still on the chart) 61 weeks, βCircles,β Post Malone (2019-20; three weeks at No. 1) 60 weeks, βMacarena (Bayside Boys Mix),β Los Del Rio (1995-97; 14 weeks at No. 1) βHeat Wavesβ concurrently tops the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts, both of which use the same multi-metric methodology as the Hot 100, for a 26th week each. The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieberβs βStayβ rebounds 5-2 on the Hot 100, after seven weeks at No. 1. It holds at No. 2 on Radio Songs (64.5 million, up 1%); slips 8-13 on Streaming Songs (11.5 million, essentially even week-over-week); and re-enters Digital Song Sales at No. 46 (1,800, up 21%). The track has spent all 36 of its weeks on the Hot 100 in the top 10, dating to its entrance at No. 3 on the July 24, 2021, chart; only Post Maloneβs βCirclesβ has linked a longer consecutive run in the top 10 from a debut: 38 weeks, in 2019-20. Kodak Blackβs βSuper Gremlinβ is steady at its No. 3 Hot 100 high, as it leads the multi-metric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for a ninth week each, and GAYLEβs βabcdefuβ keeps at No. 4, after reaching No. 3. βabcdefuβ concurrently crowns the Adult Pop Airplay radio chart; it previously led Pop Airplay for two weeks. βWe Donβt Talk About Bruno,β from Encanto, drops 2-5 on the Hot 100 after five weeks at No. 1, the longest reign ever for a song from a Disney film. The track, by Carolina GaitΓ‘n, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz, and the Encanto Cast, all singing as the characters that they voice in the movie, continues its command on Streaming Songs, where it leads for an 11th week (22.2 million, down 11%). Justin Bieberβs βGhostβ hits a new No. 6 Hot 100 high, up from No. 7, swapping spots with Adeleβs βEasy on Meβ (6-7), which spent 10 weeks at No. 1. Imagine Dragons and JIDβs βEnemyβ surges 12-8 on the Hot 100, with 42 million in radio airplay audience (up 17%, good for the chartβs top Airplay Gainer award for a fifth consecutive week), 10.6 million streams (down 3%) and 4,000 sold (up 3%). The song is showcased at the beginning of each episode of Netflixβs animated series Arcane: League of Legends, which premiered Nov. 6, 2021 (with the track having topped Billboardβs Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind, for November). Imagine Dragons notch their fifth Hot 100 top 10, following βRadioactiveβ (No. 3, July 2013); βDemonsβ (No. 6, December 2013); βBelieverβ (No. 4, August 2017); and βThunderβ (No. 4, December 2017). Rapper/singer JID earns his first top 10. βEnemyβ also enters the top 10 on both Radio Songs (14-10) and Digital Song Sales (13-10). Imagine Dragons score their seventh Radio Songs top 10 and first since βNaturalβ in 2018; βEnemyβ reaches the top 10 in just its fifth week on the chart, marking the groupβs fastest flight to the tier, one-upping the six-week trip for βThunder,β its lone leader on the list. The band adds its 11th top 10 on Digital Song Sales. JID reaches the top 10 of both charts for the first time. βEnemyβ is drawing support at multiple radio formats, as it rules Alternative Airplay for a seventh week, having become Imagine Dragonsβ seventh No. 1 on the chart; pushes 10-9 on Adult Pop Airplay, and holds at No. 10 on Pop Airplay. Also notably, the top three titles on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs (βHeat Waves,β βabcdefuβ and βEnemy,β at Nos. 1, 2, and 3, respectively, this week) appear in the Hot 100βs top 10 simultaneously for the first time since Hot Rock & Alternative Songs was revamped in June 2020. Rounding out the Hot 100βs top 10, Lil Nas Xβs βThats What I Wantβ returns to its best rank (10-9) and Ed Sheeranβs βBad Habitsβ descends 8-10, after reaching No. 2. Again, for all chart news, you can follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram and all charts (dated March 26), including the Hot 100 in its entirety, will refresh on Billboard.com tomorrow (March 22). Luminate, the independent data provider to the Billboard charts, completes an exhaustive and thorough review of all data submissions used in compiling weekly chart rankings. Luminate reviews and authenticates data, removing any suspicious or unverifiable activity using established criteria before final chart calculations are made and published. In partnership with Billboard, data deemed suspicious and unverifiable is disqualified prior to final calculations.

All of a sudden, those album bombs some of you love to hate on aren't looking so had now, huh? both sides are too much, but I guess it's better when we have album bombs since it's a one-week thing. The last time I really enjoyed following Billboard was from thank u, next debut at #1 to Blinding Lights last week at #1. Ariana finally went from a hitmaker to the biggest artist in the world with TUN, Gaga's huge comeback with ASIB, the whole OTR run at #1 and multiple #2 debuts behind it (ME! especially), Billie's breakthrough, AIWFCIY finally hitting #1...and a lot of huge hits: thank u, next, SICKO MODE, Without Me, Shallow, Sucker, Girls Like You, 7 rings, I Don't Care, Old Town Road, Senorita, Truth Hurts, bad guy, Sunflower, Life Is Good, Happier, High Hopes, Circles, Dance Monkey, The Box, Don't Start Now, Adore You, Someone You Loved and Blinding Lights. As expected, everything went downhill with covid, so I'm not that surprised.

Even though Drake's recent album was the worst of his discography, I prefer an album bomb of his rather than this drought the charts are in. I hope a major artist speaks out on this.

I don't know if I want artists giving us a conversation about the state of music. What I would prefer is for them to give us enjoyable music.

I took a look into the crystal ball and here's what's happening later this year:
-Heat Waves will rule 5 weeks on Hot 100 then Stay will return to number one for 1 week -Glad to announce that BTS will release 5 new tracks in 5 weeks, but because of the remixes with Ed Sheeran and Nicki Minaj, they will actually replace themselves at #1 6 times. Billboard writes that BTS are the biggest act in the world in history. -Save Your Tears and Levitating become TikTok favourites in August and return to top ten. AC is delighted to find a new The Weeknd track to play. -Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone won't release anything this year. The latter fights his label all year long. -There will finally be an album bomb in November when Lil Uzi Vert releases his long awaited project... but calls it a mixtape and none of the songs become proper hits -Kanye West records a new album and releases it via devices that can me used only on Elon Musk's spacecrafts. -Heat Waves leaves the chart in December because of Christmas hits, but don't worry, it'll return in January 2023 because AC are so thrilled about discovering a new indie song to play.

The charts don't have an effect on what people listen to. Very few people look at the hot 100 to find songs to listen to. And regardless, it is not the job of the hot 100 to dictate the pop music scene. The charts definitely has an effect, it not might be the direct one only, but the charts is one part of the whole music business and the whole business has enormous effect what people listen to. These times are long gone when small radio station started to play a song which eventually went to become a hit. A conversation I've never had with a person: "Hey, what you listened to *insert song here*? It's number three on the Hot 100!"

Only 4 5 new peaks were discovered on Chart History (thanks to a combination of the album bomb and a handful of viable candidates lacking artist pages to check), and 2 already got mentioned on this page, so all I have to offer are:
40 (+20). Handsomer, Russ feat. Ktlyn 22 (+3). 'til You Can't, Cody Johnson 18 (+16). Ahhh Ha, Lil' Durk
Welp, just a few hours until publishing anyway.
EDIT: Forgot to check for Lil' Durk's non-debut, so that's a fifth.

A single artist releasing won't stop this drought, we need consecutive big releases. That's why this state might last another month, when people start releasing music for the summer.

I find it hilarious how Nicki Minaj can still debut at #2 over a decade into her career, yet the Pulse narrative was she underperformed/flopped. Yet Megan, even aided by Dua Lipa couldnβt even debut in the top 10. Where is the flop parade and discussions on that?

But you would think nicki would be able to get a pretty free number one with this DEAD chart. Also Megan and Dua are much more likely to have a longer chart run because the GP isnβt really gonna overly stream a rap nicki song nowadays.

dang where is the "great" line for you if an 85% isn't it my "great" line starts at 70% lol Right? People out here giving 9.1s to songs and saying theyβre just okay while anything they just below 7.5 is terrible. Sometimes other peopleβ/ ratings confuse me. Then I give a song 3/5 with the intention of it being a decently good score and I feel like a monster. Blame video game reviews from places like Polygon or IGN for that particular scale. Too afraid to give anything below a 7 in case it pisses off publishers.

The difference is that with the exception of maybe WAP, none of Megan or Duaβs previous songs was as heavily promoted as Sweetest Pie. I donβt think either song having too much longevity, as I see Sweetest Pieβs run mirroring TMB, and DWHAPβs run mirroring Rumors (Lizzo). Sweetest Pie is probably going to be below Levitating on the streaming songs chart in a week or two.

Wasted on You debuted at #12 on Hot 100 Recurrents. Given that it had only charted for 19 weeks total on the Hot 100, it seems to me that it should either charted in the Hot 100 or not at all ...

Billboard is weird like this- I think I remember Martin & Gina not re-entering the Hot 100 when it had enough points even though it only charted for 19 weeks

Could that mean it wasn't enough for top 50? Maybe because it had such a long run they aren't letting it re-enter until it's top 50?
